  • To repair your Google Pixel Fold, use this guide to replace its back glass.

Step 1 | Safety Precautions

Step 1 image

Do not start this repair with a fully charged battery — risk of fire.

  • Allow the battery to drain below 25% before proceeding.
  • Power off your phone completely and unplug all cables.

Step 2 | Heat the bottom edge

Step 2 image

Damage to display and battery can occur from excessive heat.

  • Lay phone face up on a clean surface.
  • Apply heated iOpener to bottom edge of back glass for two minutes.
  • Alternative methods: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but use caution with extreme heat.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Follow these steps using the Anti-Clamp, or skip ahead for an alternate method.

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Unfold your phone and slide the Anti-Clamp arms over the left edge, below the Google "G" logo.
  • Position suction cups near the bottom edge: one on the front and one on the back.

Ensure the inner screen cup doesn't touch the bezel for proper adhesion.

  • Squeeze the cups together to apply suction.
  • If the surface is too slippery, use tape for better grip.
  • For cracked glass, use packing tape to aid suction cup adhesion.

Step 4

Thumbnail 3

Position your phone on a stable surface.

  • Anti-Clamp: Place it between the arms with an object like a box or books under your phone.
  • Pull the blue handle forward to secure the arms in place.
  • Rotate the handle clockwise for 360 degrees until the cups start to extend.
  • Ensure suction cups remain aligned; if they begin to misalign, detach and reposition them.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Insert an opening pick into the gap under the back glass.

If the Anti-Clamp doesn't create a sufficient gap, apply more heat to the area and rotate the handle a quarter turn.

  • Crank no more than a quarter turn at a time.
  • Wait one minute between turns.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Step 6 image

Careful not to crack the screen when applying force.

  • Attach a suction cup near the bottom edge of the back glass, ideally at center.
  • Pull up with strong force until you create a gap between the back glass and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap to start separation.

Age can make this process difficult; apply more heat if needed, then try again.

If the back glass is badly cracked, use clear packing tape for better suction or strong tape instead of a suction cup.

As a last resort, superglue the suction cup to the broken glass.

Step 7 | Separate the bottom adhesive

Step 7 image

Inserting the opening pick deeper than 3.5 mm can damage internal components.

  • Slide the opening pick back and forth along the bottom edge to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the bottom left corner before continuing.

Step 8 | Heat the left edge

Step 8 image

Use a iOpener and heat it up, then apply it to the left side of the back glass for exactly 2 minutes.

Step 9 | Separate the bottom left adhesive

Step 9 image

Hold the opening pick at an angle and rotate it around the bottom left corner of the device, working it under the adhesive.

Step 10 | Separate the left adhesive

Insert the second opening pick into the bottom left corner.

  • Slowly slide it toward the top left corner to start separating the adhesive.
  • Leave this opening pick in place for further use.

Step 11 | Heat the top edge

Step 11 image

Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the back glass and heat it for 2 minutes.

Step 12 | Separate the top left adhesive

Step 12 image

Position the opening pick at the top left corner and rotate it slowly to loosen the adhesive.

Step 13 | Separate the top adhesive

Step 13 image

  • Insert a third opening pick into the top left corner.
  • Slide it toward the top right corner to begin separating the adhesive.

Step 14 | Heat the right edge

Step 14 image

Risk of thermal damage if excessive heat applied.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the back glass for exactly two minutes.

Step 15 | Separate the top right adhesive

Step 15 image

Be extremely cautious when handling the sharp corner – it is prone to cracking.

  • Apply plenty of heat and insert a pick at an angle as flat as possible against the back glass.
  • Rotate the pick around the top right corner while maintaining even heat, carefully separating the adhesive.

Step 16 | Separate the right adhesive

Step 16 image

Insert a fourth opening pick in the top right corner.

  • Slide the pick toward the bottom right corner to loosen the adhesive.

Step 17 | Separate the bottom right adhesive

Step 17 image

Be extremely cautious when approaching the sharp corner due to its fragile nature.

  • Apply sufficient heat and manipulate the opening pick in a flat position against the back glass.
  • Rotate the pick carefully around the bottom right corner, maintaining gentle pressure to release the adhesive.

Step 18 | Reposition the back glass

Step 18 image

Thumbnail 3

Do not fully remove the back glass yet, as it remains connected by a cable.

  • Ensure the back glass is separated from the frame. If there's still resistance, use an opening pick to break remaining adhesive.
  • Swing the left edge of the back glass over the right edge of the phone.
  • Lay the back glass alongside the phone on the right side before proceeding.

Step 19 | Unfasten the middle bracket

Step 19 image

Keep track of each screw for reassembly.

  • For Pixel Fold screws, use T3 or T4 Torx bits (or larger) with constant downward force to prevent stripping.

Avoid using the wrong screw size and type (e.g., standard Torx with 3IP Torx Plus screws).

  • Remove middle bracket screws using a Torx Plus 3IP driver.
  • The two screws are each 2.8 mm long.

Step 20 | Remove the middle bracket

Step 20 image

  • Pull the middle bracket toward the left edge using tweezers or your fingers and release its clip.
  • Remove the middle bracket from the phone.

When reassembling, ensure the middle bracket clip is securely seated in its slot before aligning screw holes.

Step 21 | Disconnect the back glass cable

Step 21 image

Use a spudger to pry up the back glass cable from the motherboard.

  • To reattach, align and press one side of the connector gently until it clicks, then repeat on the other side.
  • Avoid pressing down in the middle; misaligned connectors can bend pins, causing permanent damage.

Step 22 | Remove the back glass

Step 22 image

Remove the back glass.

Step 23 | Reassembly information

Step 23 image

Thumbnail 2

Remove large chunks of adhesive from the perimeter of the back glass using tweezers.

  • Repeat for any adhesive on the frame.

Avoid using high concentrations of isopropyl alcohol or other harsh chemicals, as they may damage surrounding components.

Remove remaining adhesive residue with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and a lint-free cloth.

  • For optimal results, replace back glass adhesive using custom cut strips (follow the guide).
  • Alternatively, use double-sided tape (e.g., Tesa Tape) to secure the back glass to the frame.
