Google Pixel 9a Front Camera Replacement

Note that any repair may compromise the water resistance of your phone.

  • If your front camera's image is fuzzy or blurry, or if it's stopped working entirely, consider replacing it with a new one.

To complete this repair, you'll need replacement front camera foil and rear cover adhesives.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Let the Pixel's battery drain to at least 25% before proceeding.

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone.
  • Power down the device by holding the power button until it turns off.

Step 2 | Heat the rear cover

Avoid applying extreme heat — risk of damaging the rear cover, screen, or battery.

  • Use a hair dryer to heat the entire rear cover.
  • Heat until the phone feels only slightly warm to the touch.

Never apply excessive heat — it can damage the adhesive and compromise repair success.

Step 3 | Apply a suction handle

Position the suction handle near the center of the right edge on the rear cover, as close to the edge as feasible.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Apply firm, consistent pressure to the suction handle.

  • A gap should form between the cover and .
  • Pry open the device with the tip of an opening pick

Step 5 | Adhesive information

Remove the rear cover by carefully separating the adhesive around the perimeter of the frame and near the cameras.

  • Use a picture as reference for guidance while removing the adhesive.
  • When prying the left edge adhesive, insert the pick no more than 3 mm to avoid damaging the wireless charging coil and its graphite film.
  • Similarly, be cautious when separating the right edge adhesive to prevent damage to the coil and film.

Step 6 | Separate the rear cover adhesive

Apply additional heat if needed.

  • Insert the opening pick at the right edge, then slide it around the top right corner and up the top edge.
  • Continue to separate the adhesive securing the rear cover.

Insert an opening pick into the initial gap near the center of the right edge.

  • Slide the pick down the right edge, then along the bottom edge.
  • Continue up the left edge to separate the adhesive securing the cover.

Step 8 | Separate the camera bezel adhesive

Position the opening pick at the left edge of the rear cover, near the camera bezel.

  • Twist the pick and apply constant pressure to separate the adhesive.

Be cautious not to damage the camera or surrounding components with the pick.

Step 9 | Remove the rear cover

Remove the rear cover.

  • If you encounter resistance, check the perimeter of the cover.
  • Use a pick to gently separate any residual adhesive.

Step 10 | Remove the camera bezel

Remove the stuck camera bezel from your phone if necessary.

  • Slide an opening pick under the camera bezel, only a few millimeters deep, to avoid damaging cameras.
  • If it doesn't come off easily, lightly heat the camera bezel.

Step 11 | Remove the wireless charging assembly screws

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and use it to remove the screws securing the wireless charging assembly.

  • Remove thirteen 5.0 mm-long screws.
  • Remove three 2.2 mm-long screws.
  • Keep track of each screw and ensure it goes back to its original location to avoid damaging your phone, as any mistake can result in costly repairs or damage to your device.

Step 12 | Unclip the wireless charging assembly

Insert the pointed tip of a spudger into the cutout to the right of the charge port, then gently pry up.

  • Work your way down along the left edge, just below the camera, and release the second clip.

Step 13 | Remove the wireless charging assembly

Step 14 | Remove the connector cover screw

Careful not to damage the battery when removing it.

  • Use aTorx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove the 1.7 mm-long screw securing the battery connector cover.

Step 15 | Remove the battery connector cover

Remove the battery connector cover using tweezers.

Step 16 | Disconnect the battery

Use a plastic spudger to pry up the battery cable press connector.

  • Release the connector by carefully prying it away from its housing.
  • Once released, pull the connector away from the board.

Step 17 | Disconnect the front camera

Careful not to touch the camera lenses, as they may be damaged.

  • Clean any smudges with a clean cloth.
  • Pry up and disconnect the front camera press connector using a spudger, starting from the top left corner.

Step 18 | Remove the front camera

Remove the front camera using tweezers.

  • Grip the center of the front camera between the press connector and the camera itself.
  • Flip the camera towards the right edge and peel it off the copper foil with gentle care.

Step 19 | Disassembly complete

Reassembly of your phone begins now.

  • Start with the internal components and work your way up to the outer casing.

Step 20 | Remove any lens caps or liners

Careful not to touch or smudge the exposed lens — risk of damage.

  • Remove any caps or plastic liners from your replacement front camera lens.

Step 21 | Install the front camera

Press down on the front camera press connector with your finger.

  • Reconnect the front camera press connector in its recess.
  • Make sure it is securely seated.

Step 22 | Apply new copper foil

Remove the copper foil from its large clear liner.

  • Place the foil onto the front camera.
  • Gently press down on the top section of the foil to secure it to the camera.

Do not remove any liners other than the one holding the copper foil, or risk damaging surrounding components.

Hold the top copper foil section in place with a finger.

  • Use tweezers to slide the liner out from the bottom copper foil section.
  • Gently press the bottom copper foil into place over the front camera press connector.

Remove the remaining liner from the top of the copper foil using tweezers.

Step 25 | Remove the old adhesive

Remove the adhesive residue using a spudger.

  • Scrape up all six small pieces around the rear cameras.
  • Clean with high-concentration isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth (or coffee filter).

Step 26 | Apply the adhesive

Remove clear liner from inner housing adhesive.

  • Lay liner around camera holes.
  • Use small silver pad cutouts for alignment.

Secure adhesive using spudger and flat end.

If adhesive pulls up with liner, lay it back in place and secure again.

Remove colored liner from top edge using pull tab.

Step 27 | Secure the adhesive

Make sure inner housing adhesive is securely attached.

  • Firmly press down on each of the six adhesive strips using a spudger.

Step 28 | Connect the battery press connector

Align the battery press connector over its socket using a finger.

Do not force the connector into place — this may damage the connection or surrounding components.

If the connector is resistant, reposition it and try again to ensure proper alignment and secure fit.

Use tweezers to secure the left edge of the battery connector cover, and then lay it down flat.

  • Install the 1.7 mm-long screw using a 3IP Torx Plus screwdriver.

Step 31 | Install the wireless charging assembly

Align the wireless charging assembly with the mounting points on the frame.

Ensure secure attachment to prevent damage or malfunction.

Firmly press around the wireless charging assembly with your fingers to re-engage all of its clips.

Step 33 | Install the wireless charging assembly screws

Acquire a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

  • Install thirteen 5.0mm Torx screws.
  • Install three 2.2mm Torx screws.

Step 34 | Remove the old rear cover adhesive

Be extremely cautious when removing the rear cover adhesive — risk of damaging nearby components.

  • Use a spudger and tweezers to carefully scrape off all old rear cover adhesive from the phone's perimeter.
  • If you can grasp a large piece, pull it out slowly in the opposite direction, taking care not to stretch or tear surrounding components.

Step 35 | Clean the frame

Use a lint-free cloth or coffee filter with high-concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol to clean the frame areas where the adhesive was.

Step 36 | Find the adhesive orientation

Ensure the rear cover adhesive fits correctly onto the frame before applying.

  • Position the adhesive above the frame, using the camera cutout for orientation.
  • Verify its fit to avoid needing new adhesive.

Step 37 | Peel the liner halfway down

Peel down the large, clear liner by about 1/2 to expose the adhesive.

  • Do not fully remove the liner at this time.

Step 38 | Apply the adhesive

Take your time when aligning the adhesive with the frame, as it's very sticky and won't move once applied.

  • Lay the exposed top edge of the clear liner onto the frame, folding towards the bottom.
  • Use the lip of the frame to help guide the adhesive into position.
  • Gently press down on the top corners with your fingers once aligned.

Apply remaining adhesive to the frame in sections, pressing firmly while removing larger backing sheet.

Step 40 | Remove the top liner

Remove the large, colored liner using the pull tab.

Press down firmly on the adhesive around the perimeter with a spudger.

Follow these steps if the camera bezel detached during rear cover removal.

  • Scrape up and remove old adhesive using a spudger from both the camera bezel and its corresponding spot on the rear cover.

Step 43 | Remove the adhesive residue

Use only high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (greater than 90%) with a lint-free cloth or coffee filter to clean the camera bezel and rear cover.

  • Clean the camera bezel using the alcohol-soaked cloth.
  • Remove adhesive residue from the corresponding spot on the rear cover.

Step 44 | Apply the adhesive

Remove the clear liner from the camera bezel adhesive.

  • Apply the adhesive to the top of the camera bezel and secure it into position.

Press firmly around the camera bezel using a spudger.

  • Secure the adhesive.
  • Remove the colored liner from the camera bezel adhesive.

Step 46 | Install the camera bezel

Position the camera bezel so the square foam is near the edge.

  • Press the camera bezel firmly into place on the rear cover using your fingers, squeezing around the perimeter to secure with adhesive.

Step 47 | Remove the old rear cover adhesive

Use a spudger with its flat end to scrape off all remaining old adhesive from the back cover.

  • Remove any visible small, oval-shaped adhesive pieces.
  • Check that no adhesive has stuck to the phone frame and carefully remove it if necessary.

Wipe down surfaces with isopropyl alcohol using a lint-free cloth or coffee filter.

  • Choose an alcohol solution of at least 90% concentration.
  • Miscellaneous residue and adhesives must be fully removed to proceed.

Remove the large, clear liner from the back cover's inner adhesive.

  • Lay the adhesive on the bottom of the back cover, ensuring the cutout aligns with the camera bezel.

Step 50 | Secure the adhesive

Use a spudger or fingers to press down firmly on each of the five small adhesives.

  • Press until the adhesives stick to the back cover.
  • Pick at and slowly peel up the remaining liner.
  • If the liner peels up with the adhesives, lay it flat and re-press the adhesives with a spudger.

Step 51 | Remove the remaining liners

Insert the point of a spudger into the adhesive around the rear cameras and carefully lift out the plastic liners.

If adhesive starts to separate from liner, lay liner back in place and use spudger to resecure it.

Remove the final liner from the rear cover adhesive using the pull tabs.

Press the rear cover firmly onto the frame.

Press firmly along the perimeter of the rear cover and near the camera bezel to ensure strong bonding of all adhesives.
