How to Apply New Back Glass Adhesive in Your Google Pixel 9

This guide is for replacing the back glass adhesive on a Google Pixel 9. It should be used when reassembling the device, right before attaching the back glass again.

Step 1 | Remove the old back glass adhesive

Be extremely cautious when removing old back glass adhesive near the battery and fragile components.

  • Use a spudger to carefully scrape away all old adhesive from the perimeter of the frame.
  • Roll the adhesive onto itself as you remove it to prevent residue.

Cleaning is essential: use isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth to thoroughly wipe down the frame.

Skipping this step if installing a new back glass cover.

  • Remove remaining back glass adhesive and its residue from the underside using a scraper.
  • Thoroughly clean the area to prevent any leftover adhesive from interfering with future installations.

Step 3 | Apply the new back glass adhesive

Remove the larger clear liner from the back glass adhesive.

If the adhesive is placed incorrectly, repositioning it will be impossible.

  • Place the adhesive on the frame with the large cutout covering the cameras.
  • Use the frame's lip to assist in positioning the sheet.

Step 5 | Secure the back glass adhesive

Use the flat end of a spudger to firmly press around the adhesive perimeter and ensure it is securely attached to the frame.

Step 6 | Remove the first liner

Grasp the top right corner of the large blue liner using tweezers or your fingers.

  • Remove the liner by lifting it away from the frame.
  • If adhesive begins to separate with the liner, gently press it back onto the frame and use the flat end of a spudger to secure it.

Press the flat end of a spudger firmly against the adhesive's perimeter to secure it to the frame.

Step 8 | Flash unit information

Press the flash unit firmly onto the midframe, ensuring the square protrusion aligns with its recess.

  • Verify adhesive stickiness, if not sticky, use thin double-sided tape strips to secure flash unit.

Remove blue liners by pulling tabs on right edge.

  • Use tweezers or fingers for removal.

Step 10 | Remove any camera bump liners

Remove any liners from the underside of the back glass, near the camera cutout area.

  • The flash unit has two circular cutouts on its top edge, which match up with metal posts underneath the back glass.
  • When installing the back glass, ensure that these metal posts fit into their corresponding cutouts.

Step 11 | Secure the back glass

Align the back glass with the frame. Press it firmly into position.

Press down evenly around the back glass to secure with adhesive.

  • For first-time power on after repair: ensure phone is flat, and nothing touches the screen.
  • No objects (fingers, liners, protectors, cases) should be in contact with the screen.
