A fully charged Pixel battery can be hazardous if damaged — let it drain below 25% before proceeding.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone, including the power adapter and any other peripherals.
  • Ensure your Pixel is completely powered off by shutting down the device or removing the battery (if possible).
  • Press and hold the power and volume up buttons simultaneously to access the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Avoid damaging internal components by inserting tools no more than 3 mm under the back glass.

  • Measure 3 mm from the tip of an opening pick and mark it with a permanent marker.
  • Lay overlapping packing tape strips over the glass to protect yourself during disassembly.

If your screen or back glass is badly cracked, ensure there's a smooth area near the bottom edge for a suction cup to stick to.

Step 3 | Apply a suction handle

Step 3 image

Attach a suction handle to the lower edge of the back glass, near the edge.

  • Press down firmly to secure the suction cup.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Remove the back glass.

  • Test the phone by powering it on and checking functionality.
  • Power off the phone before continuing with reassembly.

Wait until you have completed the adhesive application guide before proceeding with back glass installation.

Step 9 | Remove the upper board cover

Step 9 image

Keep track of each screw and ensure it's replaced in its original position.

  • The Pixel 9 uses Torx Plus screws, but standard Torx bits also work.
  • To avoid stripping, apply constant downward force when removing screws.

Using a 3IP Torx Plus driver is recommended for the upper board cover screw. Remove the single 5.4 mm-long screw securing this cover carefully.
