Google Pixel 9 Front Camera Replacement

  • Use this repair to replace the front camera in a Google Pixel 9, recommended for blurry or low-quality photos.
  • Required materials include replacement back glass and front camera adhesives.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Allow the Pixel's battery to drain below 25% before starting this repair, as a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables from the phone.
  • Completely power off the phone.
  • Press and hold the power button and volume up button simultaneously to access the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Avoid damaging internal components by keeping tool insertion depth under 3 mm.

  • Measure 3 mm from the tip of an opening pick and mark with a permanent marker.
  • Lay overlapping strips of packing tape over the glass to protect yourself and aid disassembly.

A suction cup may not adhere perfectly if your screen or back glass is badly cracked.

Step 3 | Apply a suction handle

Place the suction handle at the bottom edge of the back glass, near the edge.

Pull down firmly to secure the suction cup in place.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Hold the suction handle firmly and pull up with strong, steady force to create a small gap.

  • (Be careful not to apply too much pressure)
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Separate the back glass adhesive

Slide the opening pick back and forth along the bottom edge, working to separate the adhesive.

Do not insert the opening pick deeper than 3mm to avoid damaging internal components.

Insert an opening pick near the top edge and slide it gently around the perimeter of the phone.

  • Slice the remaining adhesive with the pick as you work your way along the edges.

Lightly twist the opening pick at the bottom edge to lift the back glass.

  • Lift the back glass up until you can grip it with your fingers.
  • Use the opening pick to separate any remaining adhesive sections.

Step 8 | Remove the back glass

Remove the back glass.

Before applying new adhesive, test your phone's functionality by powering it on and verifying that it works.

  • Power down your phone before reapplying the back glass.
  • Apply new adhesive according to the provided guide and install the back glass.

Step 9 | Remove the upper board cover

Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original location.

  • The Pixel 9 uses Torx Plus screws; standard Torx bits may also be used.
  • Apply constant, downward force when driving to prevent stripping.
  • To remove the upper board cover, use a 3IP Torx Plus driver on the single 5.4 mm-long screw.

Remove the upper board cover using a pair of tweezers.

Step 11 | Remove the midframe

  • Remove the four 5.4 mm screws using a 3IP Torx driver.
  • Remove the single 2.2 mm screw using a 3IP Torx driver.

Step 12 | Peel up the flash cable

Remove the flash cable from the metal midframe using a pair of tweezers.

Step 13 | Remove the midframe

Remove the midframe, wireless charging coil, and NFC assembly.

Step 14 | Disconnect the battery

Use the tip of a spudger to gently pry up and release the battery connector.

Step 15 | Disconnect the front camera

Insert the spudger tip into the press connector at the front camera. Pry gently to release.

  • The connector should now be free from the camera module.

Step 16 | Pry up and remove the front camera

Insert flat-end spudger into gap at top edge of front camera.

  • Pivot spudger down against frame to pry front camera upwards.
  • Continue prying until front camera is completely removed.

Step 17 | Install new front facing camera adhesive

Remove old front facing camera adhesive using tweezers.

  • Take out the larger clear liner
  • Use tweezers to place new adhesive into front facing camera recess.
  • Spudger press adhesive firmly onto frame.
  • Remove any remaining liner

Step 18 | Adhere the front facing camera

Remove protective caps and liners from the new front facing camera.

  • Align the cable with the right edge, then press the front facing camera into its recess.
  • The camera will secure with adhesive.
