Google Pixel 9 Back Glass Replacement

Repairing the phone may compromise its water resistance, depending on the quality of the rear cover adhesive reapplication.

  • Follow these steps to replace a cracked or broken back glass on your Google Pixel 9.
  • You will need a new back glass adhesive for this repair.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Let your Pixel's battery drain below 25% before proceeding, as a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Completely power off your Pixel.
  • Press and hold the power and volume up buttons simultaneously to access the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Apply adhesive along the perimeter of the back glass to secure it to the .

When using an opening pick, do not insert it more than 3 mm under the back glass to avoid damaging internal components.

  • Mark a point on your opening pick 3 mm from its tip with a permanent marker for accurate placement.
  • If your screen or back glass is heavily cracked, a suction cup may not provide a secure grip. In this case:

Apply overlapping strips of packing tape over the glass to protect yourself and facilitate disassembly.

  • Ensure there's a large, smooth area near the bottom edge where a suction cup can adhere securely.

Step 3 | Apply a suction handle

  • Suction Handle should be placed near the bottom edge of the back glass.
  • Push down firmly to secure it in place.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Grasp the suction handle firmly and pull upwards with steady force.

Once a gap appears beneath the back glass, carefully insert the pointed end of the opening pick.

Step 5 | Separate the back glass adhesive

Slide the opening pick back and forth along the bottom edge.

  • Separate the adhesive holding it in place.
  • Never insert the opening pick deeper than 3 mm — risk of damage.

Slide the opening pick around the entire perimeter of the phone to slice off the remaining adhesive.

Lightly twist the opening pick at the bottom edge.

  • Lift the back glass up until you can grip it with your fingers.
  • Use the opening pick to separate any remaining adhesive sections securing the back glass.

Step 8 | Remove the back glass

  • Remove the back glass.
  • Power your phone on before sealing, testing that it works properly.

    • Power your phone down when finished.
    • Apply new adhesive and install your back glass as described in the separate guide.
