How to Apply New Rear Cover Adhesive in Your Google Pixel 9 Pro

This guide must be followed during reassembly.

  • Complete all repairs before proceeding with reattachment.
  • Ensure proper adhesive alignment for a secure fit.

Step 1 | Remove the old rear cover adhesive

Be extremely cautious when removing rear cover adhesive to avoid damaging the battery or nearby fragile components.

  • Use a spudger to carefully scrape away old rear cover adhesive from the frame's perimeter, working slowly to roll it onto itself.
  • Once removed, use isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth to thoroughly clean up any remaining adhesive residue on the frame's perimeter.
  • A completely clean surface is necessary for the new adhesive to form a strong bond.

Check if you are replacing a rear cover; skip to next step if so.

  • Remove remaining rear cover adhesive and residue from underside using previous method.

Step 3 | Apply the new rear cover adhesive

Remove the larger clear liner from the rear cover adhesive.

Adhesive application is irreversible — ensure accurate placement.

  • Place the adhesive sheet onto the frame, aligning the large cutout with the cameras.
  • Use the frame's lip to guide the adhesive into position.

Step 5 | Secure the rear cover adhesive

Use the flat end of a spudger to press firmly around the adhesive's perimeter and secure it to the frame.

Step 6 | Remove the first liner

Remove the large blue liner by gripping its top right corner with tweezers or your fingers.

If adhesive peels up, lay it back on the frame and use the flat end of a spudger to secure it gently.

Press the flat end of a spudger firmly against the adhesive and work your way around the perimeter.

Step 8 | Prop up the rear cover

Remove any liners from the underside of the rear cover near the camera cutout area.

  • Position a suction handle on the back of the rear cover, as close to its center and right edge as possible.
  • Prop up the rear cover just to the right of your phone.

Step 9 | Reconnect the rear cover

Reconnect the rear cover press connector to the logic board.

  • Lay the wireless charging assembly into place.

Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to install the screws for the wireless charging assembly.

  • Install four 5.4 mm-long screws.
  • Install one 1.5 mm-long screw, note that this is non-magnetic and may require use of tweezers for placement.

Power on your phone to test it now, ensure it works before continuing reassembly. Power down the phone before proceeding with reassembly.

Step 11 | Remove the remaining liners

Grip the left pull tab at the bottom edge of the frame.

  • Remove the blue liner from the left edge of your phone, peeling it away slowly and carefully.
  • If adhesive starts to lift with the liner, lay it back on the frame and use the flat end of a spudger to secure it in place.

Hold the rear cover over your phone using one hand and the suction handle.

Be careful not to damage the delicate cable connecting the rear cover.

  • Use tweezers or your fingers to remove the blue liner in the other hand.
  • Exposing the rear cover adhesive will allow for proper removal.

Step 13 | Attach the rear cover

Place the rear cover onto the frame and press it in firmly.

Apply even pressure along the edges of the rear cover to ensure proper adhesion.

  • Power on your Pixel device with the phone placed flat and free from any contact with the screen (fingers, plastic liners, screen protectors, cases).
