Google Pixel 9 Pro Rear Cover Replacement

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Allow the battery to discharge below 25% to prevent damage or fire.

  • Unplug all connected cables from the phone.
  • Power down the Pixel completely by pressing and holding the Power button until it shuts down.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Separate the adhesive securing the rear cover to the frame.

  • Insert your tool no more than 3mm under the rear cover to avoid damaging internal components.

Ensure your tool is at least 3 mm from the tip, as damage to internal components can occur otherwise.

Mark this area with a permanent marker or tape a coin to your pick for precise guidance.

Step 3 | Apply a suction handle

Attach a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear cover, as close as possible.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

  • Pull up on the suction handle firmly and steadily.
  • Create a small gap under the rear cover.
  • Insert the opening pick into the gap.

Step 5 | Separate the rear cover adhesive

Do not insert the opening pick more than 3 mm deep.

  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to break the adhesive seal.

Insert the opening pick into the device at the left edge.

Carefully pry along the top edge, working to separate the adhesive.

Slide pick along the right edge to release any remaining adhesive.

Step 8 | Prop up the rear cover

Do not attempt to fully remove the rear cover at this time.

  • Lift the left edge of the rear cover with a suction handle and swing it towards the right edge, as you would open a book.
  • If the rear cover resists removal, inspect its perimeter for remaining adhesive. Use your opening pick to separate any stubborn areas.
  • Prop up the rear cover using the suction handle to access the ribbon cable near the top right corner.

Step 9 | Remove the wireless charging assembly

Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original position.

  • Use a Torx Plus or standard Torx bit, applying constant downward force to avoid stripping.
  • To remove the wireless charging assembly, use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver:
    • Remove four screws, each 5.4 mm long.
    • Remove one 1.5 mm-long screw, which may require tweezers due to its non-magnetic nature.

Be extremely cautious when handling the spring contacts under the top left edge of the wireless charging assembly.

  • Remove the wireless charging assembly using tweezers or your fingers.

Step 11 | Disconnect the rear cover

Press the rear cover press connector's tab using a pointed tool, such as an opening pick.

  • Pry the connector straight up.

Step 12 | Remove the rear cover

  • Remove the rear cover.
  • For reassembly: apply new adhesive and install the rear cover, following this guide.
