Google Pixel 9 Pro Front Facing Camera Replacement

Any repair may compromise the water resistance of your phone.

  • Replace the front-facing selfie camera in your Google Pixel 9 Pro if it's producing a fuzzy or blurry image or has stopped working.
  • Required parts: replacement front camera and rear cover adhesives.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Ensure the Pixel's battery is discharged below 25% to avoid risk of explosion due to a damaged lithium-ion battery.

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone.
  • Press and hold the power button until the screen goes dark, indicating complete power-down.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Adhesive secures the rear cover to the frame.

  • Separate the adhesive by inserting an opening pick up to 3mm under the rear cover to avoid damaging internal components.
  • Measure and mark 3mm from the tip of your opening pick with a permanent marker or use a coin taped to a pick for guidance.

Step 3 | Apply a suction handle

Attach a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear cover, near the edge.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

  • Pull up on the suction handle firmly until a small gap appears under the rear cover.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Separate the rear cover adhesive

Do not insert the opening pick deeper than 3 mm.

  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to separate the adhesive.

Position the opening pick at the left edge of the device and slide it along the top edge, using a gentle prying motion to separate the adhesive.

Use your pick to gently pry along the device's right edge, working to release any remaining adhesive.

Step 8 | Prop up the rear cover

Do not fully remove the rear cover yet.

  • Lift the left edge of the rear cover using a suction handle, then swing it over the right edge, like opening a book.
  • If necessary, use an opening pick to separate any remaining adhesive along the perimeter.
  • Prop up the rear cover with the suction handle to access the ribbon cable near the top right corner.

Step 9 | Remove the wireless charging assembly

Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original location.

  • Use a Torx Plus 3IP or standard Torx bit to remove screws.
  • Apply constant downward force to avoid stripping the screws.

  • Remove five screws from the wireless charging assembly:
    • Four 5.4 mm-long Torx Plus screws
    • 1.5 mm-long Torx Plus screw (non-magnetic). You may need to use tweezers for removal.

Careful not to damage the spring contacts under the top left edge.

  • Remove the wireless charging assembly using tweezers or your fingers.

Step 11 | Disconnect the rear cover

Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap at the left edge of the rear cover press connector.

  • Pry the pick straight up to release the connector.

Step 12 | Remove the rear cover

Remove the rear cover.

  • Apply new adhesive according to the provided instructions.
  • Install the rear cover securely.

Step 13 | Remove the cable cover

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and use it to loosen the two screws:

  • 1 x 2.3 mm long screw
  • 1 x 5.4 mm long screw

Remove the cable cover using tweezers or your fingers.

Step 15 | Disconnect the battery

Insert the spudger's point into the gap beside the battery press connector and lift straight up.

Step 16 | Remove the 5G mmWave cover screw

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screw using the corresponding screwdriver.

  • The screw is located on the mmWave antenna cover.
  • The screw length is 5.4 mm.

Step 17 | Unclip the 5G mmWave cover

Locate the clip near the bottom left corner of the mmWave antenna cover.

  • spudger under the clip.

Step 18 | Remove the 5G mmWave cover

Grasp the right edge of the cover and pull it gently towards the bottom of the phone.

Be careful not to apply excessive force, which may damage the phone's casing.

  • Insert the two tabs on the top corners under their respective recesses in the frame during reassembly.
  • Push the cover down to secure it into place.

Step 19 | Disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna

Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry up and release the mmWave antenna press connector in the top right corner of the logic board.

Step 20 | Disconnect the front facing camera

Insert the point of a spudger under the front-facing camera press connector and gently pry it up to release.

Step 21 | Remove the 5G mmWave antenna screw

Be extremely cautious not to touch the cameras during this step; accidental contact requires gentle cleaning with a clean microfiber or lint-free cloth.

  • Hold the front-facing camera cable securely out of the way for unobstructed access.
  • Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove the mmWave antenna screw, approximately 4.3 mm in length.

Step 22 | Remove the 5G mmWave antenna

Remove the mmWave antenna using tweezers or your fingers.

  • When reinstalling, ensure the mmWave antenna is positioned beneath the front-facing camera cable.

Step 23 | Remove the front facing camera

Separate the front facing camera from its adhesive using the tip of a spudger.

  • Lift the right edge of the camera.
  • Remove the camera with tweezers or your fingers.

Step 24 | Apply new front camera adhesive

Use tweezers to remove old front facing camera adhesive from the frame.

  • Remove larger clear liner from front facing camera adhesive.
  • Use tweezers to place adhesive into front facing camera recess.
  • Use a spudger to press adhesive into place, securing it to the frame.
  • Remove remaining blue liner from adhesive.

Step 25 | Install your replacement front camera

Remove protective caps and liners from new front facing camera.

  • With cable on right edge, press front facing camera into recess to secure with adhesive.
