  • This repair replaces a broken, cracked, or unresponsive screen on your Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.
  • If the replacement screen doesn't come with adhesive installed, you'll need additional screen adhesive to complete this repair.
  • Any repair may compromise water resistance; reapplying adhesive carefully is crucial for retaining it afterwards.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Allow the battery to deplete below 25% to prevent potential fire hazards from a damaged lithium-ion cell.

  • Remove any connected cables from your Pixel.
  • Powder down the device completely before proceeding with the repair.

Step 2 | Tape over any cracks

Glass shards can cause injury, so it's essential to handle them with care.

  • Apply overlapping strips of packing tape directly to the cracked screen glass.
  • Ensure the tape only covers the glass and not the phone frame.

Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from any loose glass particles.

Step 3

Never apply excessive heat to the phone, as this can cause damage to the battery and plastic components.

  • Apply gentle heat to the screen using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate until it's almost too hot to touch.
  • The adhesive should soften, making it easier to separate from the frame.

Step 4 | Apply a suction handle

Step 4 image

Attach a suction handle to the middle of the screen's top edge.

When using an opening pick, do not insert it deeper than 3mm into the device.

  • Measure 3mm from the tip and mark the opening pick with a permanent marker.
  • Or, attach a coin to the end of the pick, positioned 3mm from the tip using tape.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Be patient when inserting an opening pick as it can be challenging.

  • Reheat the screen if it feels stuck during insertion.
  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the screen and frame.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick under the screen, ensuring it's underneath the attached plastic frame.

Step 7 | Separate the screen adhesive

  • Insert the spudger point under the left edge of the screen cable press connector and pry up to release it.
  • Remove the screen.

Step 12 | Screen information

Step 12 image

The Pixel's screen is extremely fragile and can be damaged by even minor scratches or dents.

  • Grip the screen by its edges to prevent applying pressure to the sensitive area.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent damage from foreign objects touching the bottom of the screen.

Step 13 | Remove all the old screen adhesive

  • Rid old adhesive by rolling it onto itself while working slowly.
  • Clean perimeter with isopropyl alcohol and microfiber cloth, removing all residue.
  • Ensure frame is completely dry before continuing.

  • Avoid pressing down in the middle, as this can bend pins and cause permanent damage if the connector is misaligned.
  • Firmly press the bottom edge of the screen cable bracket into its cutout and secure it with a click on the top edge.

Step 23 | Remove any small liners
