Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Rear Cover Replacement

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Allow the battery to discharge below 25% to avoid potential fire hazard.

  • Remove all connected cables from the device.
  • Ensure the phone is powered off before proceeding with the repair.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Do not insert tool more than 3mm under rear cover to avoid damaging internal components.

Measure 3mm from tip and mark pick with permanent marker or tape coin 3mm from tip.

Step 3 | Apply a suction handle

Attach a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear cover, as close to the edge as possible.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Apply firm pressure to the suction handle and pull it upwards to create a small opening.

  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap you have created.

Step 5 | Separate the rear cover adhesive

Insert an opening pick at the bottom edge and gently pry, being careful not to insert further than 3 mm.

Be cautious of over-insertion to avoid damage.

Position the opening pick at the left edge of the device and gently slide it along the top edge, working to release the adhesive.

Use your pick to gently pry along the right edge, loosening any remaining adhesive.

Step 8 | Prop up the rear cover

Do not remove the rear cover completely.

  • Lift the left edge of the rear cover using a suction handle.
  • Swing it over to the right, as if opening a book.
  • If needed, use your opening pick to remove remaining adhesive from the perimeter.

Prop up the rear cover with the suction handle to safely access the ribbon cable near the top right corner.

Step 9 | Remove the cable cover

Remove the two Torx Plus 3IP screws using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

  • The screws are located on the cable cover.
  • Each screw is 5.2 mm long.

Remove the cable cover using tweezers or your fingers.

Step 11 | Disconnect the rear cover

Use the pointed end of a spudger to gently pry up and release the rear cover's press connector.

Step 12 | Remove the rear cover

Remove the rear cover.

  • During reassembly, refer to the guide for applying new adhesive.
  • Install the back cover according to the guide.
