Google Pixel 9 Pro XL Front Facing Camera Replacement

  • Replace the front-facing selfie camera in your Google Pixel 9 Pro XL if it's experiencing issues (e.g., fuzzy or blurry images, complete failure).
  • You'll need replacement front camera and rear cover adhesives to complete this repair.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Let the Pixel's battery drain to below 25% before proceeding to prevent potential damage or fire.

  • Unplug all cables from the phone.
  • Press and hold the Power button until the screen turns off completely.

Step 2 | Adhesive information

Mark a point 3mm from the pick's tip with a permanent marker or tape a coin to a pick at this distance.

  • Insert the pick into the adhesive, but do not insert more than 3 mm under the rear cover.
  • Avoid damaging internal components when separating the adhesive from the frame.

Step 3 | Apply a suction handle

Attach a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear cover, as close to the edge as possible.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Apply firm, steady pressure to the suction handle until a small space appears underneath the rear cover.

  • Insert the pointed end of an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Separate the rear cover adhesive

Insert the opening pick at an angle and slide it along the bottom edge.

  • Separate the adhesive by gently moving the pick back and forth.
  • Avoid inserting the pick more than 3 mm deep to prevent damage.

  • Insert the opening pick at the left edge and slide it along the top edge.
  • This will help to separate the adhesive.

Run your pick along the right edge to detach any remaining adhesive.

Step 8 | Prop up the rear cover

Do not attempt to fully remove the rear cover yet.

  • Lift the left edge of the rear cover using a suction handle and swing it over the right edge, as if opening a book.
  • If necessary, inspect the perimeter for any remaining adhesive and use an opening pick to separate it.
  • Prop up the rear cover with the suction handle to access the ribbon cable near the top right corner.

Step 9 | Remove the cable cover

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver and use it to remove the two screws (5.2 mm long) securing the cable cover.

Remove the cable cover with tweezers or your fingers.

Step 11 | Disconnect the rear cover

Use the point of a spudger to carefully pry up and release the rear cover press connector.

Step 12 | Remove the rear cover

Remove the rear cover.

  • During reassembly, follow these steps to apply new adhesive:
    • Apply new adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Install your back cover.

Step 13 | Peel up the cable cover tape

Locate the adhesive tape near the left edge of your phone.

  • Use the tip of a spudger and your fingers to peel up the tape.
  • Remove enough tape to access the bracket and screws underneath.
  • Keep the removed tape for reassembly purposes.

Step 14 | Remove the cable cover

Use a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to remove the two 5.2 mm-long screws securing the wireless charging cable cover.

Remove the cover using tweezers or your fingers.

Step 16 | Disconnect the wireless charging assembly

Insert the opening pick into the space between the phone case and the charging connector.

  • Pry gently with a small amount of force, trying not to damage the surrounding area.
  • The wireless charging press-connector should now be loose and can be removed by hand.

Insert the pointed end of the spudger under the ultra-wideband press connector.

Apply gentle pressure with the spudger to pry up and release the connector.

Step 18 | Remove the wireless charging assembly screws

Remove the two Torx Plus 3IP screws using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.

Be careful not to damage the surrounding components.

Step 19 | Remove the wireless charging assembly

Step 20 | Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the battery press connector with a spudger.

Step 21 | Remove the 5G mmWave cover screw

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to take out the 5.2 mm-long screw holding the mmWave antenna cover in place.

Step 22 | Remove the 5G mmWave cover

Locate the metal clip securing the mmWave antenna cover at the bottom left corner.

  • Insert a spudger point under the tab near the bottom left corner of the mmWave antenna cover.
  • Pry up and slide the cover to the right using the spudger to unclip it.

Push the cover along the bottom edge of the phone.

  • During disassembly, gently pull the right edge towards the bottom and remove the cover.
  • For reassembly, insert tabs under recesses and push down to secure.

Step 24 | Disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna

  • Spudger tip: Pry up and disconnect the mmWave antenna press connector in the top right corner of the logic board.

Step 25 | Disconnect the front facing camera

Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry up and release the front-facing camera press connector.

Step 26 | Remove the 5G mmWave screw

Touching the cameras may damage them; clean with microfiber or lint-free cloth if accidental contact occurs.

  • Hold the front-facing camera cable aside using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver to access the mmWave antenna screw.
  • Remove the Torx Plus 3IP screw securing the mmWave antenna with a length of 4.2 mm.

Step 27 | Remove the 5G mmWave antenna

Remove the mmWave antenna using tweezers or your fingers.

  • During reassembly, ensure the mmWave antenna is placed under the front facing camera cable.

Step 28 | Remove the front facing camera

Locate and carefully pry the front facing camera away from its adhesive using the point of a spudger.

  • Lift the right edge of the front facing camera, separating it from the adhesive.
  • Remove the camera with tweezers or your fingers.

Step 29 | Apply new front camera adhesive

  • Tweezers: Remove old front-facing camera adhesive from frame.
  • Remove larger clear liner from front-facing camera adhesive.
  • Tweezers: Carefully place adhesive into front-facing camera recess.
  • Spudger: Press adhesive into place, securing it to the frame.
  • Remove remaining blue liner from adhesive.

Step 30 | Install your replacement front camera

Remove protective caps and liners from the new front facing camera.

  • With the cable on the right edge, press the front facing camera into its recess.
  • The camera will secure with adhesive.
