Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Rear Camera Assembly Replacement

  • This guide is for replacing the rear camera assembly in your Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

Ensure the battery level is below 25% to prevent accidental discharge during the repair.

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone and
  • power off the device completely.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

  • Apply a suction cup to the back cover's bottom edge, centered if possible.
  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong force while holding the phone to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • For badly cracked covers, apply clear packing tape before using the suction cup or try using very strong tape instead.

Step 3 | Separate the back cover adhesive

Do not insert the opening pick deeper than 3 mm to prevent damage to metal springs.

  • Measure and mark the opening pick at 3 mm if desired for reference.
  • Remove the suction handle from the back cover.
  • Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner, then up the left edge to separate the adhesive.

Slide the pick around the top left corner and across the top edge of the back cover.

Insert your opening pick into the right edge, at least 4 mm deep, to break the thicker adhesive.

  • Slide the pick down along the right edge and around the bottom right corner.

Leave the back cover connected by its cable.

  • The back cover should be loose from the frame now. Use an opening pick if there's adhesive remaining.
  • Lift the bottom edge of the back cover and swing it over the top edge of the phone.
  • Ensure the cable isn't strained when propping up the back cover with your suction handle or a clean object.

Step 7 | Remove the top bracket screw

Keep track of each screw during this repair.

  • Ensure all screws are returned exactly where they were removed from.

Using standard Torx bits with Torx Plus screws can result in stripping; use the same size or one larger (e.g. T3 with 3IP).

Apply constant, downward force when using Torx bits to remove screws.

Use a Torx Plus 3IP driver to remove the top bracket's 3.0 mm long screw.

Step 8 | Remove the top bracket

  • Pull the top bracket towards the top of the phone using tweezers or your fingers.
  • The bracket will release from its clip when it reaches the top.
  • Remove the top bracket.

Step 9 | Disconnect the back cover cable

Locate the back cover cable press connector at the bottom edge.

  • Tilted spudger tool into position carefully.
  • Pry gently to release and disconnect the back cover cable.

Avoid contact with surface-mounted components to prevent damage.

Remove the back cover from the device's frame.

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP driver and use it to unscrew the two 3.0mm long base battery bracket screws.

Use tweezers or your fingers to pull the base battery bracket towards the bottom of the phone.

Be careful not to damage any surrounding components.

  • Pull the base battery bracket away from its clip to release it.
  • Remove the base battery bracket.

Do not insert the spudger in any location except under the bottom left corner of the base battery press connector.

  • Pry up the base battery press connector by inserting the spudger under its gold marker.
  • Dislodge and disconnect the base battery.

Use a spudger to gently pry up and release the USB-C port board cable's press connector.

  • Screw location: securing the vibrator bracket.

Remove the vibrator bracket from the frame using tweezers or your fingers.

Insert one tweezer arm under the metal neck of the black antenna cable's connector on the USB-C board.

Lift straight up to disconnect the cable.

Step 18 | Remove the inner front camera bracket screws

Remove the inner front camera bracket by using a Torx Plus 3IP driver to unscrew the two 2.6 mm screws.

Lift the inner front camera bracket upwards and towards the left using tweezers or your fingers.

  • The bracket's clips will be released as it moves into position.
  • Remove the inner front camera bracket.

Use a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the inner front camera press connector.

  • Separate the adhesive securing the camera to the frame.
  • Remove the inner front camera.

Position the spudger and slide its flat end under the ultra-wideband antenna.

  • Gently pry the antenna from the frame using the spudger.
  • Use tweezers or your fingers to lift the antenna off the frame, releasing any remaining adhesive.

  • These screws secure the ultra wideband bracket.

Use a Torx Plus 3IP driver to remove the screw that is 3.0 mm long and secures the interconnect cable bracket.

  • Use tweezers or your fingers to pull the bracket towards the right edge of the phone.
  • This action should release its clip.
  • Next, remove the bottom interconnect cable bracket.

Insert a Torx Plus 3IP driver into the screw head and turn it clockwise until the 3.0 mm-long screw is removed.

Position the tweezers on the inner display cable bracket.

  • Pull the bracket towards the left edge to release it from the clip.
  • Once released, carefully remove the inner display cable bracket.

Locate the display press connector on the logic board, marked with a gold marker.

  • Insert the point of your spudger under the bottom left corner of the display press connector, as indicated by the gold marker.
  • Pry up and carefully disconnect the inner display cable.

Avoid inserting the spudger anywhere else to prevent damage to surface-mounted components.

  • Disconnect both the top and bottom interconnect cables by prying carefully next to the gold markers.

  • Grasp the edge of the graphite sheet and gently peel it away.
  • Continue peeling until the sheet is completely separated from the speaker.

Peel the graphite sheet further from the logic board to remove any remaining adhesive.

Peel off the yellow tape on the side button cable ZIF connector using tweezers or your fingers.

  • Set the tape aside for later use during reassembly.

Do not damage the battery as it poses a risk of chemical leakage or fire.

  • Pull the side button cable straight out using angled tweezers.

Step 36 | Separate the 5G mmWave antenna

  • Inspect the 5G mmWave antenna attachment.

  • Pry up the 5G mmWave antenna using a spudger, then separate it from the thermal pad.

  • Insert a Torx Plus 3IP driver and loosen the one 2.2 mm-long screw.
  • Next, remove the two 2.6 mm-long screws using the same driver.

Gently insert the flat end of a spudger into the top left corner of the logic board, beside the inner front camera cutout.

Be prepared to feel some resistance due to thermal paste bonding between the logic board and frame.

  • Pry up the logic board enough to access the top edge with your fingers.

Remove the logic board from its frame.

  • Lay the logic board upside down on a clean, flat surface.

  • Scrape off large pieces of old thermal paste with the flat end of a spudger.
  • Apply highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol (over 90%) to remaining thermal paste residue.
  • Use a coffee filter or lint-free cloth to wipe away the residue, as other materials may leave behind contaminants.

Avoid pressing down heavily on the logic board — risk of bending metal springs or smudging the rear camera assembly.

  • Repeat the thermal paste cleaning procedure for the bottom side of the logic board.

Use a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna press connector.

Careful when prying the 5G mmWave antenna cable, as it may be stuck firmly.

  • Slide the flat end of a spudger under the 5G mmWave antenna cable's adhered section on the bottom of the logic board.
  • Pry up the cable to separate the adhesive, working slowly to avoid damage.
  • Use caution when pulling the cable off the logic board, as remaining adhesive may resist removal.

Continue to use tweezers or your fingers to pull the cable and separate any remaining adhesive from the logic board.

Locate the 5G mmWave antenna cable adhered to the top of the logic board.

Be cautious not to damage the delicate components during this process.

  • Gently peel back the adhesive strip holding the 5G mmWave antenna cable in place.
  • Remove the 5G mmWave antenna.

Step 45 | Disconnect the rear camera antenna cable

  • Lift straight up to disconnect the cable.
  • Repeat the procedure for the other connector head.

Use tweezers or your fingers to carefully move the antenna cable out of its groove.

  • Move the antenna cable away from its original position.
  • Once exposed, remove the antenna cable.

  • Pry up gently to disconnect the wide camera.

The ultrawide camera connector does not have a gold marker, so insert the spudger under the raised silver platform next to the wide camera instead.

  • The following instructions will guide you through the reassembly of your device.

  • If present, gently remove each cover using your fingers.
  • Proceed without this step if no covers are attached.

Next, use your fingers to carefully remove the three lens covers from the new rear camera assembly.

  • Ensure proper alignment of pins and sockets.
  • Gently press down to secure the camera assembly in place.

  • Carefully align one of the rear camera assembly's press connectors over its socket.
  • Gently press down on the connector with your fingertip until it clicks into place.

  • Peel off and fold the top half of the new adhesive strip from its clear liner.
  • Align it over the frame, using the corners as reference points.
  • Securely place the adhesive on the frame.

Slowly lay the remaining adhesive over the phone's perimeter, working from the edges inwards.

  • Continue peeling away the clear liner to expose more of the adhesive.

Press the remaining adhesive firmly onto the frame using the flat end of a spudger or your fingers.

Use a spudger to pry up the segmented tab in the bottom right corner of the large blue liner.

  • Lift the tab and peel off the large blue liner to expose the secondary liner.
  • If adhesive peels up with the liner, gently lay it back on the frame and secure it using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 104 | Reconnect the back cover cable

Do not force the back cover cable connector into place.

  • Hold the back cover in position or use props to support it.
  • Reconnect the back cover cable carefully, repositioning and retrying if necessary.

Step 105 | Reinstall the top bracket

Reattach the top bracket clip to the logic board by inserting it back into its designated slot.

  • Align the screw hole of the bracket with its corresponding hole on the logic board.

  • Insert a Torx Plus 3IP driver and drive in the 3.0 mm-long screw securing the top bracket.

Step 107 | Remove the secondary liner

Use the spudger tip to gently pry the segmented tab.

  • The target area is located at the top right corner of the secondary liner.

Peel off the secondary liner to expose the adhesive.

  • If any adhesive peels up with the liner, gently lay it back in place.
  • Use the flat end of a spudger to secure it.

Step 109 | Secure the back cover

Press down on the back cover to secure it to the frame.

Press the back cover along the perimeter to adhere it to the frame.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun to lightly heat the edges of the back cover for a stronger bond.
  • Allow the phone to sit for several hours for adhesive cure.
