Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Outer Front Camera Replacement

  • Replace the outer front camera module in your Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold using this guide.

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

Allow the battery to discharge below 25% to prevent potential fires.

  • Disconnect all cables from your device.
  • Power down your phone completely.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply suction cup near bottom edge of screen for maximum adhesion.

To avoid damaging the screen, use strong, steady force when pulling up on suction cup.

  • Insert an opening pick into gap created by suction cup.
  • If screen is badly cracked, cover with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Alternatively, use very strong tape instead of suction cup or superglue to screen if needed.

Step 3 | Separate the adhesive

Do not insert the opening pick deeper than 3 mm.

  • You may choose to mark your opening pick at 3 mm from the tip for reference.
  • Slide the opening pick around the bottom right corner and up the right edge of the screen.

Place the pick at the top right corner and slide it towards the front, stopping just before the camera lens.

Remove the opening pick almost entirely, leaving just a small portion under the screen.

  • Slide the remaining part of the pick across the top edge of the screen, passing over the front camera.
  • Return the pick to its original depth before proceeding further.

Risk of damage to display cable if pick is slid too far.

  • Insert the opening pick into the top left corner of the screen.
  • Stop the pick at two-thirds down the left edge and do not proceed further.

Insert the opening pick into the lower-left corner of the device.

  • Hold the pick at a 90-degree angle to the screen.
  • Pull the pick outwards until it reaches a depth of approximately 2 mm.
  • Rotate the pick clockwise around the bottom left corner, applying gentle pressure.

Don't fully remove the screen yet as it's still connected to the phone by a cable.

Be careful not to damage the screen or surrounding components when handling.

  • Free the screen from the frame, using an opening pick if there's remaining adhesive around the edges.
  • Lift the right edge of the screen and swing it over the left edge of the phone.
  • Prop up the screen with your suction handle or a clean, sturdy object to maintain its position.

Step 9 | Remove the display cable bracket screw

Keep track of each screw during this repair to ensure correct reinstallation.

  • Use either Torx or Torx Plus bits (T3 or T4) for screws, noting that one size larger is acceptable.
  • Apply constant downward force when using Torx or Torx Plus bits to avoid stripping the screw head.

Be careful not to strip screws when applying force.

  • Use a Torx Plus 3IP driver to remove the 2.2 mm-long screw securing the display cable bracket.

Apply conductive tape to secure the display cable bracket to the frame.

  • Lift the display cable bracket using a spudger or your fingers, and gain access to the press connector underneath.

Step 11 | Disconnect the display cable

Insert the pointed end of a spudger into the display cable press connector.

  • Gently pry up on the connector using the spudger's point.
  • The connector should release and come free from the motherboard.

Step 12 | Remove the screen

Remove the screen from its housing by lifting it straight up.

Step 13 | Remove the battery bracket screw

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP driver and use it to take out the 2.0 mm-long screw holding the battery bracket in place.

Secure the battery connector bracket with conductive tape to the lower board.

  • Use tweezers or your fingers to move the battery bracket away from the battery press connector.

Use the point of a spudger to pry up and release the battery press connector.

Step 16 | Remove the rubber block

Use tweezers, or your fingers, to remove the rubber block covering a screw on the top board.

Step 17 | Remove the top interconnect cable bracket screws

Remove the Torx Plus 3IP driver with a 2.5 mm bit and unscrew the screws that secure the top interconnect cable bracket.

  • The screws are located at each end of the bracket.

Step 18 | Remove the top interconnect cable bracket

Remove the top interconnect cable bracket using tweezers or your fingers.

Step 19 | Disconnect the top interconnect cable

  • Position the spudger tip under the top right corner of the top interconnect cable press connector, just above the golden marker.
  • Pry up to release and then disconnect the top interconnect cable press connector.

Step 20 | Remove the top board screw

  • Remove the top board by using a Torx Plus 3IP driver to loosen the single screw.

Be careful not to puncture or deform the battery.

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger under the bottom edge of the top board.
  • Twist the spudger to lift the top board and unclip it from the frame.
  • Remove the top board.

Step 22 | Remove the outer front camera

Avoid applying excessive pressure on the top board.

  • Insert a spudger under the top right corner of the front camera press connector, next to the golden marker.
  • Do not insert the spudger elsewhere, as it may dislodge surface-mounted components.

  • Pry up and disconnect the outer front camera.

Pinch the outer front camera press connector into its socket on the top board using your fingers.

Hold the top board at a 45-degree angle and press it firmly against the until the metal spring clicks into place.

  • Make sure not to press too hard, which could damage the board or the frame.

  • Press the board flat to ensure proper alignment of the screw holes.

  • Install the Torx Plus 3IP driver for the job.
  • Secure the top board with a 2.2 mm-long screw.

Step 27 | Reconnect the top interconnect cable

Press the top interconnect cable connector firmly into place.

Align the screw holes of the top interconnect cable bracket with the top board.

  • Position the bracket on the board, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Secure the bracket by fastening it to the board using the aligned screw holes.

Install the Torx Plus 3IP driver and screw in the two 2.2 mm-long screws securing the top interconnect cable bracket.

Step 30 | Reinstall the rubber block

Position the rubber block onto its designated location on the top board.

  • Press the rubber block firmly into place.

Step 31 | Reconnect the flip battery

Position the flip battery bracket over the press connector, ensuring the screw holes are aligned.

Insert the Torx Plus 3IP driver and tighten the battery bracket screw, which is 2.0 mm long.

Step 34 | Remove the old adhesive

Old adhesive residue can damage new components.

  • Remove the old bottom left outer screen adhesive using a spudger or your fingers.
  • Mix isopropyl alcohol (>90%) with a coffee filter or a .
  • Clean any remaining adhesive residue from the area.
  • Ensure all surfaces are free of old adhesive before proceeding.

Step 35 | Compare your new adhesive

Check that the bottom left outer screen adhesive is properly aligned with the frame.

  • The clear liner should be facing the frame.

Remove the clear liner from the bottom left outer screen adhesive.

  • Place the exposed adhesive onto the frame.

Press the adhesive strip firmly onto the frame using the flat end of a spudger.

Verify that the perimeter outer screen adhesive aligns with the frame.

  • The clear liner must be positioned facing inward, toward the frame.

Work slowly when handling the new adhesive strip to avoid applying it incorrectly.

  • Pry away the top half of the adhesive strip from its clear liner.
  • Keep the peeled half folded while working with it.

Position the adhesive with its top edge aligned to the centerline of the frame.

  • Use the frame's corner points as reference for alignment.
  • Press the adhesive firmly onto the frame.

Press the top edge of the adhesive against the frame using the flat end of a spudger or your fingers.

Slowly place the remaining adhesive along the phone's edge.

Avoid applying excessive pressure to avoid air bubbles or creasing.

Press the remaining adhesive firmly onto the frame using the flat end of a spudger or your fingers.

Insert the tip of a spudger into the segmented tab at the bottom left corner of the large blue liner and gently pry it open.

Remove the large blue liner by lifting the tab.

  • If any adhesive comes up with the liner, press it back down on the frame.
  • Use a spudger to secure the adhesive in place.

Step 46 | Reconnect the outer screen

Support the screen with your hand or prop it up against a stable object.

  • Reconnect the outer screen cable press connector.

Step 47 | Reinstall the outer screen cable bracket

Align the outer screen cable bracket clip's screw hole with the frame.

  • Slide the clip back into place underneath the frame.

Install the Torx Plus 3IP drive for securing the display cable bracket.

  • Secure with a 2.2mm-long screw.

Step 49 | Expose the adhesive

Remove the blue liner from the bottom left outer screen adhesive strip.

  • Hold the screen above the frame and then separate one of the secondary liner's pull tabs at the bottom left corner.

Peel off the secondary liner, exposing the adhesive.

If adhesive peels with liner, gently lay it back and secure with a spudger.

Step 51 | Secure the outer screen

Align the outer screen with the frame, then press it firmly into position.

Press the outer screen along its perimeter to attach it to the frame.

  • Apply light heat with a hair dryer or heat gun to reinforce bonding at edges, if desired.
  • Allow phone to sit for several hours for adhesive curing.
