This repair guide, authored by iFixit staff, has not been endorsed by Google and can be found here.

  • Replacing the Inner Screen Assembly in a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold:
    • The inner screen assembly comes pre-installed into its frame.
    • You'll need to transfer all internal components to the new frame during replacement.
    • Batteries are not included with the replacement inner screen assembly; source your own accordingly.

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

Step 1 image

Allow the phone's battery to drain below 25% to prevent potential fire hazards.

  • Unplug all cables from the phone, including the charger and data connections.
  • Completely power down the phone by holding the Power button until it shuts off.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Step 2 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge.

  • Hold the phone with one hand and pull up on the suction cup firmly.
  • Create a gap between the back cover and the frame using steady force.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

If the back cover is badly cracked, apply clear packing tape to improve suction cup adhesion. Alternatively, use strong tape or superglue for added grip if necessary.

Step 3 | Separate the back cover adhesive

Step 3 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert the opening pick no deeper than 3 mm to avoid damaging metal springs.

Inserting too far may cause damage, but marking a 3 mm line on your tool can help you gauge depth.

  • Remove the suction handle from the back cover.
  • Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner and up the left edge to release adhesive.

Step 4

Step 4 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Be cautious with the thick adhesive along the right edge.

  • Insert the opening pick at least 4 mm into the thicker adhesive area on the right edge.
  • Slide the pick down and around the bottom right corner to separate the remaining adhesive.

Step 6

Step 6 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Ensure the back cover is still connected by its cable before proceeding.

  • The back cover should now be detached from the frame.
  • If there's resistance, use an opening pick to separate any remaining adhesive.

Avoid straining the cable when lifting the back cover.

Position the back cover over the phone by lifting its bottom edge and swinging it towards the top edge.

Secure the back cover in place using your suction handle or a sturdy object, ensuring the cable is not strained.

Step 7 | Remove the top bracket screw

Step 7 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Keep track of each screw and ensure it is returned to its original position.

  • The Pixel 9 Pro Fold uses Torx Plus screws; standard Torx bits (T3 or T4) work, but use a size one larger for best results.
  • Apply constant downward force when using Torx bits to prevent stripping of the screw head.

Use a Torx Plus 3IP driver to remove the 3.0 mm-long screw securing the top bracket.

Step 8 | Remove the top bracket
