Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

A fully charged lithium-ion battery can be hazardous, so let the battery level drop to less than 25%

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone.
  • Power off the phone completely.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

If your phone's back cover is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for a better grip.

  • Apply a suction cup near the center of the bottom edge and hold the phone steady with one hand.
  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Alternatively, use very strong tape or superglue the suction cup directly to the broken back cover if necessary.

Step 3 | Separate the back cover adhesive

Step 3 image

Do not insert the opening pick deeper than 3mm to prevent damaging metal springs.

  • Measure and mark your opening pick at 3 mm for visual reference if needed.

Remove the suction handle from the back cover.

  • Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner.
  • Continue up the left edge of the back cover to separate the adhesive.

Leave the back cover partially attached, as the cable is still connected.

  • The back cover should be loose from the frame by now.
  • If edges are stuck, use an opening pick to gently pry off remaining adhesive.

Hold the bottom edge of the back cover and swing it over the top edge of the phone.

Use a suction handle or a clean object to prop up the back cover, ensuring the cable isn't strained.

Step 7 | Remove the top bracket screw

Step 7 image

Keep track of each screw throughout this repair.

  • Torx Plus screws require a matching Torx Plus driver, or standard T3 or T4 Torx bits for the same size or larger screw heads.
  • Apply constant downward force to prevent stripping when driving.

Forcing a stripped screw can lead to further damage and complications.

  • Use a Torx Plus 3IP driver to remove the top bracket's 3.0 mm-long screw.

Step 8 | Remove the top bracket
