Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

Step 1 image

Allow the phone's battery to discharge below 25% to prevent damage or fire.

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone.
  • Power off the phone completely before proceeding.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply suction cup near bottom edge of back cover.

  • Pull up on suction cup with strong, steady force.
  • Create gap between back cover and frame.
  • Insert opening pick into gap.

If cracked back cover, try covering it with clear packing tape for better adhesion or use strong tape instead of suction cup. If necessary, superglue suction cup to broken back cover.

Step 3 | Separate the back cover adhesive

Step 3 image

  • Measure and mark your opening pick at 3 mm for reference, if needed.
  • Remove the suction handle from the back cover.
  • Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner and up the left edge to separate the adhesive.

Leave the back cover partially attached by the cable.

  • The back cover should now be separated from the frame.
  • If there's still resistance, use an opening pick to remove adhesive.

Lift the bottom edge of the back cover and swing it over the top edge of the phone.

Prop up the back cover with your suction handle or a sturdy object, ensuring the cable isn't strained.

Step 7 | Remove the top bracket screw

Keep track of each screw and ensure it is replaced in its original position.

  • The Pixel 9 Pro Fold uses Torx Plus screws, which can also be accessed with standard Torx bits (T3 or T4).
  • When using a Torx bit, apply constant downward force to prevent screw stripping.
  • To remove the top bracket's screw, use a Torx Plus 3IP driver and a T3 or T4 Torx bit with 3IP Torx Plus screws.

Step 8 | Remove the top bracket

Forcing the connector may damage it — be patient.

  • Hold or prop up the back cover.
  • Reconnect the back cover cable, allowing it to snap into place naturally.
