Note: This repair may compromise water resistance; reapplying back cover adhesive correctly is crucial for retaining it.
Allow the Pixel's battery to drain below 25% before commencing this repair.
A charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged during disassembly.
Locate the SIM card tray hole on the left edge of your phone.
Do not damage your phone's internals by inserting tools too far.
Choose the opening tool with the flat end.
Use a spreading tool to pry the back cover loose from its adhesive along the bottom edge.
Insert an opening tool into the bottom right corner.
Insert the opening tool under the top right corner of the back cover.
Insert the opening tool under the left edge of the back cover.
Locate a strip of adhesive above the camera bump.
Securely remove the adhesive strip below the camera bump.
Apply constant pressure with both picks to pry up the back cover.
If still stuck, lightly heat the area below the camera bump with a hair dryer or iOpener to soften the adhesive before proceeding.
Remove the back cover.
Use a hair dryer, iOpener, or heat gun to gently warm the flash unit.
Heat only until it's warm to the touch, as excessive heat can damage surrounding components and battery.
Position a pick at the top edge of the flash and gently lift.
Take care not to damage the delicate flash cable.
Keep track of each screw and its location for proper reassembly.
Apply constant, downward force to prevent screw stripping.
Be extremely cautious when handling spring contacts around your phone's perimeter — damage can occur easily.
Slowly lift the top edge of the logic board cover to access the flash unit's cutout.
Disconnect the wireless charging coil from the logic board cover.
Ensure the wireless charging coil is secure and safely disconnected to avoid damage or short circuits.
Remove the metal cover from the right edge of the phone using tweezers or fingers.
This guide is specific to the Verizon Google Pixel 8a model.
Insert the flat end of a spudger under the right edge of the battery press connector and lift straight up to disconnect it.
Only pry where instructed to prevent damaging surface mounted components around the battery and 5G mmWave connectors.
Use a spudger to gently lift the 5G mmWave antenna press connector from its socket.
Remove the earpiece speaker by lifting its bottom edge.
Remove the two Torx Plus 3IP screws using a Torx Plus 3IP screwdriver.
Insert a picking tool under the left edge of the antenna housing and pry up gently.
Firmly press around perimeter during reassembly to engage clips securely.
Remove antenna housing.
During reassembly:
Use the flat end of a spudger to firmly press the adhesive into place, securing it to the camera and logic board. Remove remaining liner.
Remove any front-facing camera copper tape still on the logic board using tweezers.
Use a spudger to firmly press the adhesive into place, securing it to the camera and logic board.
Careful not to touch the rear camera lenses.
Insert the opening pick under the right edge of the front-facing camera cable and gently lift.
If the pick cannot slide in, lightly heat the cable with a hair dryer or heat gun to loosen adhesive.
Move the battery and 5G mmWave cables aside.
Be extremely cautious not to damage the spring contacts on the edges of the logic board.
The logic board is delicate — risk of damage from bending.
Do not fully remove the logic board yet — it's still connected by the screen cable.
Be cautious when handling the logic board, as it may fall out of place.
Apply a suction handle to the left side of the screen, facing down:
Tilt and lay the logic board flat carefully:
Be extremely careful not to puncture the battery during this step.
During reassembly, carefully hook the bottom edge of the bracket into its slot on the logic board and press down firmly on the top to snap the bracket back into place.
If your display cable bracket is bent or doesn't fit properly, replace it with a new one.
Use a spudger or clean fingernail to pry up the display cable press connector.
Be cautious, as reconnecting this cable can be difficult due to its tension.
Disconnect the logic board retaining screws.
Finger oils can damage the front sensor — handle with care.
Check the condition of the thermal pads on the bottom of the logic board or corresponding spot on the right side of the frame.
Flip the logic board over carefully.
Flip the logic board over carefully.
Remove the rear cameras by lifting them out of their mounts.
The logic board remains.
