Google Pixel 8 Ultrawide Rear Camera Replacement

This repair guide is not endorsed by Google and was written by the iFixit staff.

  • The guide is intended for replacing the ultrawide rear camera in the Google Pixel 8.
  • If your ultra-wide photos appear distorted or blurry, or if the camera doesn't function, you may need to replace it.
  • This repair requires replacement screen adhesive.
  • Note: The guide is based on the 5G mmWave antenna model of the Pixel 8. If using a non-mmWave version, skip relevant steps.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

A fully charged Pixel's battery poses a risk of explosion if damaged.

  • Allow the battery level to drop below 25% before commencing this repair.
  • Lithium-ion battery must be depleted beforehand.
  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Ensure complete power-down by pressing and holding the power button and volume up button.

Step 2 | Mark your opening picks

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Identify the position where the screen meets the frame.

  • Hold an opening pick against the device, ensuring it is aligned with the screen's edge.
  • Measure 3mm from the tip of the pick and mark the desired insertion point with a permanent marker or tape a coin to the pick at this mark.

Inserting an opening pick too far can damage your device, so be precise when marking the insertion point.

Step 3 | Heat the bottom edge adhesive

Step 3 image

Securely attached by adhesive and clips is the screen. Apply heat to loosen its bond.

  • Be cautious when applying heat, as it may damage the screen or battery.

  • Lay a heated iOpener on the bottom edge of the screen for two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.

Step 4 | Secure the Anti-Clamp

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Using the Anti-Clamp tool, which is designed for easier opening:

  • Pull back the blue handle to unlock its arms.
  • Place your phone screen side up on an object so it rests level between the arms, with the bottom edge hanging off.
  • Slide the arms over the left phone edge for access to the bottom edge.
  • Position the suction cups near the center of the bottom edge.
  • Squeeze the cups together to create suction.

Step 5 | Twist the handle

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Rotate the handle clockwise one full turn (360 degrees).

  • Pull the handle forward to lock the arms.
  • If suction cups stretch, ensure they remain aligned. If necessary, apply tape for better adhesion.

Do not overtighten; stretching is normal but slipping indicates insufficient grip.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Step 6 image
