A fully charged Pixel's battery poses a risk of explosion if damaged.
Identify the position where the screen meets the frame.
Inserting an opening pick too far can damage your device, so be precise when marking the insertion point.
Securely attached by adhesive and clips is the screen. Apply heat to loosen its bond.
Be cautious when applying heat, as it may damage the screen or battery.
Using the Anti-Clamp tool, which is designed for easier opening:
Rotate the handle clockwise one full turn (360 degrees).
Do not overtighten; stretching is normal but slipping indicates insufficient grip.
Wait one minute for a gap to form between the screen and frame.
If adhesive remains, twist the handle clockwise one quarter turn and wait another minute; apply more heat if necessary.
Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the arms and remove the Anti-Clamp using the pull tabs on the suction cups. Do not proceed with the next steps.
Attach a suction handle to the center of the screen's bottom edge.
Apply firm pressure to the suction handle until the screen separates from the frame.
Insert the pick no more than 3 mm deep to avoid damaging your phone.
Insert an opening pick at the bottom edge of the device and gently slide it along to release the adhesive.
Do not remove the pick, as this will cause the adhesive to reattach.
Leave the pick in place, positioned in the bottom right corner, to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
Apply heat to the right edge of the screen using an iOpener for 2 minutes.
Insert a second opening pick under the bottom right corner of the screen.
Insert a third opening pick under the bottom edge of the screen.
Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the screen for two minutes.
Insert the opening pick under the bottom left corner of the screen.
Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the screen for two minutes.
Alternatively, you may use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be careful as extreme heat can damage the screen and/or battery.
Position a fifth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
Position a small support (e.g., box or books) next to your phone to prop up the screen.
Be careful not to strain the screen cable
.Use a opening pick to pry up the upper edge of the screen cable cover.
Insert the point of a spudger under the top left corner of the screen's press connector.
When reconnecting a press connector, align it over its socket and gently press down on one side until it clicks into place, then press down on the other side. Avoid pressing in the middle to prevent pin bending and permanent damage.
Fragile back screen — small damage can be costly.
Reassemble with a pre-installed screen: remove liners using pull tabs, reconnect screen cable & reinstall cover.
Calibrate the fingerprint sensor following separate guide after reassembly is complete.
Locate the 5G mmWave antenna cable connected to the logic board.
Locate the 5G mmWave antenna cable secured to the midframe with adhesive.
Caution: When using alternative heat sources (hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate), be extremely careful as high heat can damage the battery.
Avoid folding or creasing the 5G mmWave antenna cable, as this can cause damage.
Remove the graphite sheet from the device.
Do not reuse the old graphite sheet during reassembly — replace it entirely.
Locate the plastic shim attached to the midframe and bottom speaker.
Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original position.
Standard Torx bits may also work on Pixel 8's Torx Plus screws.
Remove the USB-C port bracket with tweezers or your fingers.
When reassembling, replace the plastic shim with new one if available.
Remove clear liner from shim before reinstallation.
Install blue liner over the shim when finished.
Remove the 8 x 3IP Torx Plus screws from the midframe using a T3 Torx screwdriver.
Separate the midframe from its thermal pad.
Inspect the midframe for any debris before proceeding.
Upon reassembly, inspect the thermal pad's condition:
Use a spudger to pry up the battery connector and disconnect it.
Do not touch any other areas with your pick — risk of damage to the logic board.
Use a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the two 3IP Torx Plus screws (5.1 mm long) securing the wide rear camera.
Insert the spudger tip into the rear camera screw hole cutout.
Use a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the ultrawide rear camera press connector from the logic board.
Insert the spudger tip into the top screw cutout of the ultrawide rear camera.
