Note: This guide was made using the 5G mmWave antenna model of the Pixel 8. If you have the non-mmWave version, skip the relevant steps as they may not apply to your device.
A fully charged battery poses a risk of fire if damaged, so drain it below 25%.
Insert the SIM eject tool, SIM ejector bit, or a straightened paperclip into the SIM card tray hole on the left edge of your phone.
Marking the opening pick will help prevent accidental insertion too far.
Extreme heat can damage the screen and/or battery.
Do not attempt to open your device without using the Anti-Clamp unless instructed otherwise.
Lock the arms by pulling the handle forward.
If the cups continue to slip, remove the Anti-Clamp and apply tape for secure adhesion.
Wait one minute for a gap to form between the screen and frame.
Pull blue handle backwards to unlock arms and remove Anti-Clamp using pull tabs on suction cups.
Attach a suction handle to the middle of the screen's lower edge.
Apply suction to the device using a firm grip on the suction handle.
Never insert the pick more than 3 mm as you separate the screen adhesive — risk of damage.
Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to separate the adhesive.
Leave the pick in the bottom right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the screen for 2 minutes.
Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Insert opening pick into bottom edge of screen.
Apply a heated iOpener to the left edge of the screen for 2 minutes.
Insert a fourth opening pick under the bottom left corner of the screen.
Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the screen for 2 minutes.
Be careful not to apply extreme heat, which can damage the screen and/or battery.
Insert a 5th opening pick near the top left corner under the screen.
Place a prop or support to the left of your phone.
Be careful not to strain the screen cable.
Insert an opening pick under the upper edge of the screen cable cover.
Careful not to damage the surrounding components.
Insert the point of a spudger under the top left corner of the screen's press connector.
To reconnect a press connector, align it over its socket and gently press down on one side until it clicks into place. Then press down on the other side. Do not press down in the middle to avoid pin bending and permanent damage.
The back of the Pixel's screen is extremely fragile and can be damaged by even minor scratches or dents.
During reassembly, follow these steps:
Use caution when handling adhesive and screen components.
Test phone temporarily by powering on and verifying functionality before proceeding.
Finalize by calibrating the fingerprint sensor using the provided guide.
Locate the plastic shim attached to the midframe and bottom speaker.
Use tweezers or your fingers to gently remove the shim from the midframe and the bottom speaker.
Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original position.
Remove the USB-C port bracket using either tweezers or your fingers.
Locate the plastic shim under the midframe and loudspeaker.
Remove the screw securing the bottom speaker using a T3 Torx driver.
Insert spudger between top right corner of bottom speaker and frame.
During reassembly, ensure gasket is seated properly before pressing speaker into place.
Locate the 5G mmWave antenna cable connected to the logic board.
Excessive heat can damage the battery.
Insert a pick under the 5G mmWave antenna cable's bottom section of adhesive.
Repeat the same process for the upper section of adhesive.
Do not fold or crease the 5G mmWave antenna cable.
Remove the large graphite sheet, which connects the upper part of the battery, midframe, and rear cameras.
Do not reuse the old graphite sheet during reassembly.
Remove the midframe by using a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the eight 3IP Torx Plus screws. These screws are each 5.1 mm long.
Separate the midframe from the thermal pad.
Disconnect the midframe from the frame.
If damaged, replace the thermal pad immediately to avoid overheating issues.
Use a plastic spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the battery connector.
Never touch the logic board with any tool or probe.
Use a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the two 3IP Torx Plus screws, each measuring 5.1 mm in length, which secure the wide rear camera.
Insert the spudger into the camera screw hole cutout.
Disconnect the ultrawide rear camera press connector using a spudger.
Insert the tip of a spudger into the top screw cutout on the ultrawide rear camera.
Use a spudger to carefully pry up the front camera press connector from the logic board.
Locate the front camera cable, lightly adhered to the earpiece speaker.
If the old adhesive is no longer sticky, use a double-sided tape, such as Tesa Tape, to reattach the front camera securely during reassembly.
Remove the front camera.
During reassembly, ensure the front camera is properly seated under the antenna cable and in its recess.
Remove the T3 Torx screw using a T3 Torx screwdriver.
Insert spudger into notch on 5G mmWave antenna bracket.
Reassembly: reinsert top edge of bracket first at downward angle, ensuring foam pad is seated properly before securing.
Remove the antenna and its cable from the frame.
Use a spudger to carefully pry up the interconnect cable press connector.
Heating the phone above a certain temperature can cause heat damage to the battery.
Do not overheat the phone, as this can cause damage to the battery.
Flip the phone over and place it on your workspace.
Position your phone for optimal drainage by tilting it, allowing the isopropyl alcohol to flow towards the adhesive along the top and bottom edges.
Allow the solution to sit for 1 minute to enable complete dissolution of the adhesive.
Insert the flat side of an opening pick into the gap between the battery and the frame.
Avoid creasing or bending the battery to prevent chemical leaks and fire risk.
Do not reuse a creased, bent, or deformed battery - it poses a fire hazard.
During reassembly, follow this guide's instructions for removing old adhesive and installing your new battery.
Remove the 3IP Torx Plus screw using a T3 Torx screwdriver.
Remove the grounding bracket.
Move the interconnect cable away from the frame to prevent it from getting caught on the logic board.
Lift the logic board upward to disengage its bottom clip.
When reassembling, press the logic board firmly into place at a downward angle with the USB-C port and rubber gasket aligned.
Reinsert the rubber plunger next to the SIM card tray slot with the red rings facing towards the outer edge of the phone.
