Google Pixel 8 Pro Rear Camera Assembly Replacement

This guide helps you replace the rear camera assembly (wide, ultrawide, and telephoto) in your Google Pixel 8 Pro. Replace cameras if they produce distorted or blurry photos, or fail to capture images.

  • Replacement screen adhesive is required for this repair.

Note: This guide was made with the 5G mmWave antenna model of the Pixel 8 Pro. If you have the non-mmWave version, skip steps referencing the 5G mmWave antenna.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Allow the Pixel's battery to drain below 25% before starting this repair, as a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Completely power off your phone using the power and volume up buttons.

Step 2 | Mark your opening picks

Insert an opening pick between screen and frame.

Picks can damage your device if inserted too far.

To prevent damage, mark the pick:

  • Measure 3 mm from the tip and mark with a permanent marker.
  • Alternatively, tape a coin to the pick 3 mm from the tip.

Step 3 | Tape over a cracked screen

Broken glass can cause injury and complicate disassembly.

  • Apply overlapping strips of packing tape to cover the cracked screen, excluding the metal frame.
  • Protect your eyes with safety glasses when working with broken glass.

Step 4 | Heat the bottom edge adhesive

Extreme heat may damage the screen and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the screen for two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious with high temperatures.

Step 5 | Secure the Anti-Clamp

Use the Anti-Clamp for easier opening: refer to our guide.

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the arms.
  • Position your phone between the arms, with the screen up and the bottom edge hanging off.
  • Slide the arms over the left edge of your phone for access to the bottom edge.
  • Position the suction cups near the center of the bottom edge.
  • Squeeze the cups together for suction.

Step 6 | Twist the handle

Lock the arms by pulling the handle forward.

  • Turn the handle clockwise one full turn (360 degrees).
  • If suction cups stretch, check they remain aligned.
  • If cups slip, remove Anti-Clamp and apply tape for secure adhesion.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Wait one minute for a gap to form between the screen and frame.

  • If no separation, twist handle clockwise one quarter turn and wait another minute.
  • Apply more heat if screen cools down.
  • Insert opening pick into gap (avoid damaging spring contacts by not inserting more than 3 mm).
  • Pull blue handle backwards to unlock arms and remove Anti-Clamp using suction cup pull tabs.

Step 8 | Apply a suction cup

Attach a suction handle to the center of the screen's bottom edge.

Step 9 | Insert an opening pick

Hold the suction handle firmly and pull upwards with steady force.

Continue to apply heat if a gap does not form initially.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 10 | Prevent damage to your phone

Insert the pick no deeper than 3 mm to prevent damage.

  • Observe the screen cable location: left edge, slightly below center.
  • Avoid damaging spring contacts around the phone's perimeter.

Step 11 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Insert an opening pick at the bottom edge and slide it downwards to break the adhesive.

Do not remove the pick — leave it in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 12 | Heat the right edge adhesive

Be cautious when using external heat sources to avoid damaging the screen and/or battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the screen for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but keep an eye on the temperature to prevent damage.

Step 13 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  • Slide the new pick up to the top right corner to separate the adhesive on the screen's edge.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 14 | Leave a pick in the bottom left corner

  • Insert a third opening pick under the bottom edge of the screen.
  • Slide this new pick to the bottom left corner.
  • Leave it in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 15 | Heat the left edge adhesive

Apply a heated iOpener to the left edge of the screen for 2 minutes.

Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate-but be cautious: extreme heat can damage the screen and/or battery.

Step 16 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Insert a fourth opening pick under the bottom left corner of the screen.

  • Slide the new pick to the top left corner to separate the adhesive securing the screen's left edge.
  • Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 17 | Heat the top edge adhesive

Avoid applying excessive heat, which may cause damage.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the top edge of the screen for two minutes.
  • Or use an alternative heat source (hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate) with caution.

Step 18 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Insert the fifth opening pick near the left corner at the top edge of the screen.

  • Slide the pick to the top right corner to loosen the adhesive holding the screen in place.

Step 19 | Prop up the screen

Position a small box or books beside your phone, propping up the screen.

  • Pivot the right edge of the screen upwards.
  • If stuck, use an opening pick to separate remaining adhesive around the perimeter.
  • Support the screen for comfortable access to the cable.

Step 20 | Remove the screen cable cover

Use a opening tool to pry up the upper edge of the screen cable cover.

  • Continue prying until the cover comes free.
  • Remove the screen cable cover.

Step 21 | Disconnect the screen

Insert spudger point under top right corner of screen's press connector.

  • Pry up gently to disconnect cable.
  • Remove screen.

When reconnecting, align press connector over socket and press down on one side until it clicks; then press down on other side. Do not press in middle, as this can cause permanent damage to pins.

Handle the screen with care to avoid damage.

  • Grip the screen only by its edges to prevent scratches and dents.
  • When placing the screen, keep it away from direct contact with any surface, ideally on a soft, lint-free cloth.

Carefully inspect your screen for plastic liners and tape before reassembly.

  • Remove all protective liners using the pull tabs, paying attention to large pieces near the back and smaller ones near the front camera cutout.
  • Remove adhesive liners from the perimeter of the screen.

Reconnect the screen cable and reinstall its cover.

  • Firmly press the screen into place, ensuring clips "pop" into position.
  • Secure the screen with even pressure around the perimeter to activate new adhesive.
  • Optionally, apply even pressure across the phone's surface for a stronger bond.

Follow the calibration guide for your fingerprint sensor to ensure proper function.

Step 24 | Disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna

Be cautious when handling internal components to avoid damage.

  • Identify if your phone has a 5G mmWave antenna, if not skip the next steps.
  • Spudger tip: carefully insert under press connector's top edge.
  • Pry up and gently disconnect the cable from the 5G mmWave antenna.

Step 25 | Heat the 5G mmWave antenna adhesive

Extreme heat can damage the battery.

  • Apply heat to one of the following methods for 2 minutes:
    • iOpener: lay on the 5G mmWave antenna cable
    • Hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate: be careful not to overheat
  • The adhesive will soften, allowing for removal of the cable.

Step 26 | Separate the 5G mmWave antenna adhesive

Insert flat-end spudger between 5G mmWave antenna cable and midframe, just above press connector.

  • Twist the spudger to separate cable from midframe.

Step 27 | Peel up the 5G mmWave antenna

Remove the 5G mmWave antenna cable from the midframe by gently peeling it from the bottom.

  • During reassembly, press the cable back into place on the midframe.
  • If the adhesive fails to hold, secure the cable with thin double-sided tape.

Step 28 | Remove the graphite tape

Remove and replace the large graphite sheet, which connects the upper battery, midframe, and rear cameras.

  • Insert a spudger under the sheet and lift until you can grip it with your fingers.
  • For sections between the rear cameras and battery that tear, grip the broken part and remove it separately.

Peeling up the entire sheet may cause damage to surrounding components.

  • During reassembly, use a new graphite sheet; do not reuse the old one.
  • Follow this guide for replacement instructions.

Step 29 | Move the USB‐C cover tape

  • Lift the plastic shim at the top of the USB-C port cover using a spudger tip.
  • Remove and set aside or move the shim to access the USB-C port cover screws.

Step 30 | Reassembly information

During reassembly, replace the plastic shim that runs across the midframe and loudspeaker.

  • If a replacement is not available, press the old shim back into place.
  • Liner removal tool required to remove larger rectangular liner from shim.
  • Align smaller piece of foam with bottom of USB-C port cover and secure shim in place using flat end of spudger.
  • Remove all liner completely, including smaller pieces of foam.

Step 31 | Remove the USB‐C port cover

Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original position.

  • Note: The Pixel 8 Pro uses Torx Plus screws, but standard Torx bits can also be used.
  • Apply constant downward force with a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the two 5 mm-long 3IP Torx Plus screws securing the USB-C port cover.

Avoid stripping by ensuring consistent, downward force is applied.

  • Once removed, take out the USB-C port cover.

Step 32 | Unfasten the midframe

Remove the midframe using a T3 Torx screwdriver.

  • There are seven 3IP Torx Plus screws, each 5 mm long.
  • These screws secure the midframe in place.

Step 33 | Remove the midframe

Remove the midframe.

During reassembly, inspect the condition of the thermal pad. If damaged:

  • Remove the old pad.
  • Clean the area with high-concentration (greater than 90%) isopropyl alcohol and a .
  • Apply a new thermal pad.

Step 34 | Disconnect the battery

Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry up the battery cable press connector and disconnect it.

Use the spudger tip to pry and release the front camera press connector.

Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry up each of the three rear camera press connectors located along the top edge of the logic board.

  • Pry up one connector at a time, working from one end of the logic board to the other.
  • Once disconnected, set each connector aside and avoid touching any surrounding components or wires.

Step 38 | Unfasten the rear camera assembly

Hold the 5G mmWave antenna cable aside when removing rear camera assembly screws.

  • Use a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove:
    • (Top left corner): one 3.5 mm-long 3IP Torx Plus screw.
    • (Top right corner): one 5 mm-long 3IP Torx Plus screw.

Step 39 | Remove the rear camera assembly

Insert plastic spudger between the right edge of the rear camera assembly and frame.

  • Pry the rear camera assembly upwards and remove it.
