Google Pixel 8 Pro Logic Board Replacement

This repair guide was written by iFixit staff and is not endorsed by Google. Learn more about our guides. Follow these steps to replace the logic board in your Google Pixel 8 Pro. Be cautious when removing the battery, as it can be damaged easily.

  • Have replacement screen adhesive on hand for this repair.
  • This guide is based on the 5G mmWave antenna model; skip related steps if you have the non-mmWave version.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

A charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged, so let it drain below 25% first.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Press and hold the power and volume up buttons to bring up the shutdown menu.

Completely power off your phone using this menu.

Step 2 | Remove the SIM card tray

Press a SIM eject tool, bit, or a straightened paper clip firmly into the SIM card tray hole.

The tray should now eject, allowing you to remove it.

Step 3 | Mark your opening picks

Use an opening pick to separate the screen from the frame.

  • Measure 3 mm from the tip of the pick and mark it with a permanent marker.
  • Alternatively, tape a coin to the pick 3 mm from the tip.

Inserting the pick too far can damage your device.

Step 4 | Tape over a cracked screen

Glass shards can cause injury, so proceed with caution.

  • Apply overlapping strips of packing tape to the cracked glass, covering just the glass itself and not the frame.
  • Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from loose glass particles during disassembly.

Step 5 | Heat the bottom edge adhesive

Using extreme heat may cause damage to the screen and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the screen for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat.

Step 6 | Secure the Anti-Clamp

Using the Anti-Clamp: If not employing the Anti-Clamp, skip ahead three steps.

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Position your phone screen side up on an object, resting it level between the Anti-Clamp's arms with the bottom edge hanging off.
  • Slide the arms over the left edge of your phone for access to the bottom edge.

Suction cups must be positioned close to the center of the bottom edge before squeezing them together to create suction.

Step 7 | Twist the handle

  • Pull the handle forward to lock the arms in place.
  • Turn the handle clockwise one full turn (360 degrees) until suction cups begin to stretch.
  • If suction cups slip, ensure they remain aligned; if necessary, remove Anti-Clamp and apply tape for better adhesion.

Step 8 | Insert an opening pick

Wait one minute for a gap to form between the screen and frame.

  • If no separation, twist handle clockwise one quarter turn and wait another minute; reapply heat if screen cools down.
  • Insert opening pick into gap without exceeding 3 mm depth to avoid spring contacts damage.

Careful not to push the pick too far into the device.

Pull blue handle backwards to unlock arms and remove Anti-Clamp using suction cup tabs.

Step 9 | Apply a suction cup

Attach a suction handle to the center of the screen's bottom edge.

Step 10 | Insert an opening pick

Apply strong, steady pressure to the suction handle until a gap appears between the screen and frame.

If no gap forms, reapply heat before retrying.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 11 | Prevent damage to your phone

Avoid damaging the phone by inserting the pick no more than 3 mm as you separate the screen adhesive.

  • Identify the screen cable location, approximately halfway up the left edge of the phone.
  • Be extremely cautious near the screen cable to prevent tearing it.
  • Avoid bending the spring contacts around the perimeter; they are easily damaged.

Step 12 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to loosen the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the bottom right corner to keep the adhesive from reforming.

Step 13 | Heat the right edge adhesive

Extreme heat may damage the screen and/or battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the screen for two minutes.
  • Or use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution.

Step 14 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  • Slide this new pick to the top right corner to release the adhesive on the right edge of the screen.
  • Leave it in place, ensuring the adhesive does not reseal.

Step 15 | Leave a pick in the bottom left corner

Insert another opening pick at the bottom edge of the screen.

  • Move it towards the bottom left corner and slide it into place.
  • Hold this new pick in position to prevent adhesive resealing.

Step 16 | Heat the left edge adhesive

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the screen for 2 minutes.

  • Alternatively, you can use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be careful as extreme heat can damage the screen and/or battery.

Step 17 | Separate the left edge adhesive

  • Insert a fourth opening pick under the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the new pick up to the top left corner to separate the adhesive on the left edge.
  • Leave the pick in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 18 | Heat the top edge adhesive

Apply a iOpener to the top edge of the screen for 2 minutes.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.

Be careful not to apply extreme heat, which can damage the screen and/or battery.

Step 19 | Separate the top edge adhesive

  • Insert a pick under the screen's top edge near the left corner.
  • Slide it to the top right corner to release the adhesive at the screen's top edge.

Step 20 | Prop up the screen

Position a small box or stack of books to the left of your phone to prop up the screen.

  • Swing up the right edge of the screen, similar to opening a book.
  • If the screen feels stuck, use an opening pick to carefully separate any remaining adhesive around the perimeter.

  • Prop up the screen for easier access to the screen cable without straining it.

Step 21 | Remove the screen cable cover

Use a screen cable opener to pry up the upper edge of the screen cable cover.

  • Remove the cover.

Step 22 | Disconnect the screen

Insert the point of a spudger under the top right corner of the screen's press connector.

  • Gently pry up and disconnect the cable.
  • Remove the screen.

When reconnecting, align the press connector over its socket and gently press down on one side until it clicks into place. Press down on the other side, but never in the middle.

Step 23 | Screen information

Fragile screen damage occurs easily with small scratches or dents.

  • Grip the screen by its edges to prevent accidental contact.
  • When placing on a work area, ensure nothing is touching the bottom of the screen. Place on a soft, lint-free cloth for protection.

During reassembly, if your new screen has pre-applied adhesive, follow these steps:

  • Screen with pre-applied adhesive:
    • Thoroughly check for and remove any plastic liners or tape using the pull tabs.
    • Look for a large piece of plastic covering the back, a small one near the front camera cutout, and adhesive liners around the perimeter.

Remove all liner materials to ensure secure bonding.

  • Reconnect the screen cable and reinstall its cover.
  • Firmly press the screen into place – you should feel clips "pop" into place.
  • Press firmly around the perimeter to secure with new adhesive.

Optionally, apply even pressure to strengthen adhesive bond.

  • Follow the calibration guide for the fingerprint sensor.

Step 25 | Disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna

Caution: Avoid scraping surface-mounted components.

  • Check if your phone has a 5G mmWave antenna. If not, skip these steps.
  • Insert the spudger tip under the top edge of the press connector.
  • Pry gently to disconnect the cable from the 5G mmWave antenna.

Step 26 | Heat the 5G mmWave antenna adhesive

Extreme heat from tools like a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may damage the battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the 5G mmWave antenna cable for two minutes to soften the adhesive.
  • Remove three pieces of strong adhesive securing the cable to the midframe.

Step 27 | Separate the 5G mmWave antenna adhesive

Use a spudger to pry the 5G mmWave antenna cable away from the midframe.

  • Position the flat end of the spudger just above the press connector on the midframe.
  • Twist the spudger to release the cable's connection to the midframe.

Step 28 | Peel up the 5G mmWave antenna

Hold the 5G mmWave antenna cable at the bottom and carefully pry it loose from the midframe.

  • When reassembling, press the cable back onto the midframe.
  • If the adhesive fails to secure the cable, use a small amount of thin, double-sided tape to hold it in place.

Step 29 | Remove the graphite tape

Remove the graphite sheet connecting the upper battery, midframe, and rear cameras.

  • Insert a spudger under sections of the sheet and lift until you can grip it with your fingers.
  • If the sheet tears, grip the broken section and remove it before proceeding.

The graphite sheet may tear during removal.

Peel up and remove the entire graphite sheet.

  • During reassembly, do not reuse the old graphite sheet. Replace it entirely.

Step 30 | Move the USB‐C cover tape

Use the tip of a spudger to carefully lift the plastic shim along the top edge of the USB-C port cover.

  • Remove and set aside or move the shim out of the way.
  • You will now have access to the USB-C port cover screws.

Step 31 | Reassembly information

Replace or reattach the plastic shim that runs across the midframe and loudspeaker.

  • If no replacement is available, press the old shim back into place.
  • Remove the larger rectangular liner from the shim.

Position the shim so the smaller piece of foam aligns with the bottom of the USB-C port cover.

  • Firmly press down along the entire length of the shim using a spudger's flat end to secure it.
  • Remove any remaining liner.

Step 32 | Remove the USB‐C port cover

Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original location.

  • Use a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the two 5 mm 3IP Torx Plus screws securing the USB-C port cover.
  • Apply constant, downward force with your Torx bit to prevent stripping. Standard Torx bits will work with these screws.
  • Remove and take off the USB-C port cover.

Step 33 | Unfasten the midframe

Remove the 7 x 3IP Torx Plus screws using a T3 Torx screwdriver.

Note: These screws are 5 mm in length.

Remove the midframe.

  • During reassembly, inspect the condition of the thermal pad.
  • If damaged, proceed with these steps:
    • Clean the area thoroughly to avoid thermal paste residue buildup.

    • Use high-concentration (greater than 90%) isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber or lint-free cloth.
    • Apply a new thermal pad.

Step 35 | Disconnect the battery

Use the pointed end of a spudger to gently pry up and release the battery cable press connector.

Step 36 | Disconnect the front camera

Insert the point of a spudger under the front camera press connector.

  • Pry upwards carefully until the connector comes loose.
  • Once disconnected, set the connector aside for reassembly later.

Step 37 | Remove the front camera

Insert the pointed tip of a spudger between each connector and the logic board, gently prying them loose.

  • Pry up the first rear camera press connector.
  • Pry up the second rear camera press connector.
  • Pry up the third rear camera press connector.

Step 39 | Unfasten the rear camera assembly

Hold the 5G mmWave antenna cable out of the way.

  • Use a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove two screws:
  • (top left) One 3.5 mm-long 3IP Torx Plus screw.
  • (top right) One 5 mm-long 3IP Torx Plus screw.

Step 40 | Remove the rear camera assembly

Insert the spudger along the right edge of the rear camera assembly.

Pry gently to avoid damaging surrounding components.

  • The rear camera assembly should now be free, allowing you to remove it.

Step 41 | Unfasten the 5G mmWave antenna bracket

Remove the two 3IP Torx Plus screws, secured with a T3 Torx screwdriver, from the 5G mmWave antenna bracket.

Insert the spudger tip into one of the 5G mmWave antenna bracket's screw holes.

  • Pry up with the spudger to dislodge the bracket.
  • Remove the bracket.

Reassembly: Insert the bracket at a downward angle, ensuring spring contacts and foam pads press against the 5G mmWave antenna. Press down firmly to secure.

Step 43 | Remove the 5G mmWave antenna

Hold the 5G mmWave antenna cable and carefully lift the antenna out of its recess.

  • If the cable disconnects from the antenna, use your fingers to remove the antenna.
  • During reassembly, reconnect the 5G mmWave antenna cable to the antenna.

Step 44 | Disconnect the antenna cable

Insert one arm of a pair of angled tweezers under the metal neck of the black antenna cable coaxial connector on the top left corner of the logic board.

  • Gently lift straight up to disconnect the cable.

Do not force the connector into place if it does not snap in — this can cause damage. Reposition the connector and try again.

  • To reconnect, hold the connector over its socket and press down with a spudger's flat end.

Step 45 | Disconnect the antenna cable

Locate the white antenna cable's coaxial connector on the top left corner of your phone.

  • Insert one arm of a pair of angled tweezers under the metal neck of the connector.
  • Lift straight up to disconnect the white antenna cable.

Remove the white antenna cable from its clip on the left side of the device by gently pulling it out.

Careful not to damage the logic board — use a spudger to carefully pry up and release the interconnect and ultra-wideband press connectors from their top left corner attachment.

Step 48 | Unfasten the loudspeaker

Remove the T3 Torx screw securing the loudspeaker using a T3 Torx screwdriver.

Ensure the correct size and type of driver to avoid damaging components.

Insert a spudger's point between the bottom right edge of the loudspeaker and frame.

  • Pry the loudspeaker up with the spudger to release it from its recess.
  • Remove the loudspeaker.

Apply even pressure during reassembly, as uneven installation may damage components.

  • Insert the edge of the loudspeaker with an orange gasket at a downward angle into its recess.
  • Press the loudspeaker firmly into place.

Step 50 | Heat the battery adhesive

Be cautious when heating the phone — risk of heat damage to the battery.

  • Apply gentle heat using a hairdryer or heat gun to the left side of the back cover, near the battery.
  • The surface should be slightly too hot to touch.

Avoid overheating the phone to prevent damage to the battery.

Step 51 | Apply isopropyl alcohol

Flip the phone over and place it on a workspace.

  • Apply a few drops of highly-concentrated isopropyl alcohol along the right edge of the battery.
  • Tilt the phone to direct the alcohol towards the top and bottom edges.
  • Allow the solution to dissolve the adhesive for one minute.

Step 52 | Insert an opening pick

Position the opening pick along the right edge of the battery, with its flat surface facing the battery's frame.

Do not bend or crease the battery as it may leak chemicals or catch fire.

  • Firmly secure your phone with one hand using constant pressure on the phone case.
  • Pry the battery up with a pick, maintaining constant pressure until separation occurs.
  • If the battery does not separate after two minutes of constant pressure, apply more heat and isopropyl alcohol, then try again.

Step 54 | Remove the battery

Do not use a damaged battery — risk of fire.

  • Use an opening pick to lift the battery and break the remaining adhesive bond.
  • Remove the battery completely from the device.

If reusing your old battery, inspect it carefully:

  • Check for creases, bends, or deformities.
  • Replace the battery if it's damaged to avoid a fire hazard.

Follow this guide to remove old adhesive and install a new battery securely.

Step 55 | Remove the grounding bracket

  • Use a T3 Torx screwdriver to remove the 3IP Torx Plus screw, located at the bottom right edge of the phone, that is approximately 2.5 mm long.
  • Remove the grounding bracket once it is loose.

Remove the 3IP Torx Plus screw secured on the logic board with a T3 Torx screwdriver.

  • The screw is 3.5 mm in length.

Step 57 | Remove the logic board

Remove the SIM card tray.

  • Lift the top edge of the logic board and remove it, ensuring no cables get snagged.
  • During reassembly:
    • Position the interconnect, ultra-wideband, and black antenna cables out of the way.
    • Insert the board at a downward angle, aligning the USB-C port with its recess in the frame.
    • Lay the top edge down and push it into place.

Step 58 | Set the logic board down

Damage to the logic board can occur if not handled properly.

  • Lay the logic board face down on a clean, soft surface such as a towel.

Step 59 | Disconnect the antenna cable

Insert the pointed end of a tweezers under the antenna cable connector on the logic board.

Be careful not to touch any circuitry with the tweezers' other arm or the tool's tips.

Lift the tweezers straight up to disconnect the cable.

Step 60 | Remove the antenna cable

Release the white antenna cable from its clips at the bottom of the logic board.

  • Pull the cable out carefully.
  • Remove the antenna cable completely.

Avoid damaging the logic board or cable during removal and reinstallation.

  • During reassembly, use a spudger to push the cable back into its clips.

Step 61 | You're left with the logic board
