Do not start this repair with a battery level above 25% — charged lithium-ion batteries can catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables from your Pixel phone.
  • Power off your phone completely.
  • Press the power and volume up buttons simultaneously to access the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Mark your opening picks

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Mark the opening pick 3 mm from the tip.

  • Use a permanent marker or
  • tape a coin to the opening pick 3 mm from the tip.

Inserting the opening pick too far can damage your device.

Step 3 | Tape over a cracked screen

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Cracked glass can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply overlapping packing tape strips to cover the cracked screen, but only adhere to the glass itself, not the frame.
  • Wear safety glasses during repair to protect your eyes from loose debris.

Step 4 | Heat the bottom edge adhesive

Step 4 image

Remove the screen by first heating the adhesive with an iOpener left on the bottom edge for two minutes.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • However, be cautious as excessive heat can harm the screen and/or battery.

Step 5 | Secure the Anti-Clamp

Step 5 image

  • For an alternate method, skip down three steps if not using the Anti-Clamp.

Complete instructions on how to use the Anti-Clamp are found in this guide.

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Place your phone screen side up, resting level between the Anti-Clamp's arms with the bottom edge hanging off an object.
  • Slide the arms over the left edge of your phone for access to the bottom edge.
  • Position the suction cups as close to the center of the bottom edge as possible.
  • Squeeze the cups together to create suction.

Step 6 | Twist the handle

Step 6 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Wait one minute for a gap to form between the screen and frame.

  • If no separation occurs, twist the handle clockwise one quarter turn and wait another minute, applying more heat if necessary.
  • Insert an opening pick into the formed gap, but do not insert it more than 3 mm to avoid damaging spring contacts.

Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the arms, then remove the Anti-Clamp using the pull tabs on the suction cups.

Step 8 | Apply a suction cup

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply strong, steady pressure to the suction handle to create a gap between the screen and frame.

  • If a gap doesn't form initially, increase heat and attempt again.
  • Once a gap is created, insert an opening pick into it.

Step 10 | Prevent damage to your phone

Step 10 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Avoid damaging your phone by not inserting the pick more than 3 mm when separating the screen adhesive.

  • Be cautious with the screen cable, located approximately halfway up the left edge of the phone.
