Google Pixel 8 Pro 5G mmWave Antenna Replacement

Follow the original manufacturer's instructions for any safety precautions and proper handling procedures.

  • This repair guide is used to replace the 5G mmWave antenna in your Google Pixel 8 Pro device.

Step 1 | Prepare your Pixel for disassembly

Let the Pixel's battery drain below 25% before repair, as a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables from your phone.
  • Power off your phone completely.
  • Press the power and volume up buttons simultaneously to access the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Mark your opening picks

Measure 3 mm from the tip of an opening pick.

  • Mark it with a permanent marker for easy identification.
  • Alternatively, tape a coin to the pick 3 mm from the tip for a visual cue.

Step 3 | Tape over a cracked screen

Glass shards can cause injury or complicate disassembly.

  • Apply overlapping strips of packing tape only to the cracked glass, avoiding the frame.
  • Cover the entire screen with packing tape.

Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from loose glass during repair.

Step 4 | Heat the bottom edge adhesive

Excessive heat may damage the screen and/or battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the screen for two minutes to loosen adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution to soften the adhesive.

Secure clips hold the screen in place.

Step 5 | Secure the Anti-Clamp

To use the Anti-Clamp, follow these steps:

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the arms.
  • Place your phone screen side up on an object so it rests level between the arms.
  • Slide the arms over the left edge of your phone for access to the bottom edge.

Make sure the bottom edge is hanging off and suction cups are positioned near center before proceeding.

  • Squeeze the suction cups together to create suction.

Step 6 | Twist the handle

Lock the arms by pulling the handle forward.

  • Turn the handle clockwise one full turn (360 degrees) until the suction cups stretch.
  • Ensure the stretched cups remain aligned; if not, remove the Anti-Clamp and apply tape for secure attachment.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Wait one minute for a gap to form between the screen and frame.

  • Check if adhesive has separated. If not, twist handle clockwise by 1/4 turn and wait another minute.
  • Apply more heat if screen cools down during process.

Insert opening pick into gap that has formed.

Avoid damaging spring contacts — do not insert opening pick deeper than 3 mm.

Pull blue handle backwards to unlock arms and remove Anti-Clamp using pull tabs on suction cups.

Step 8 | Apply a suction cup

Attach a suction handle to the screen's lower edge, centered.

Step 9 | Insert an opening pick

Apply suction to the device using a firm grip.

  • Look for a gap between the screen and frame.
  • If separation is difficult, reapply heat before retrying.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 10 | Prevent damage to your phone

Insert pick no deeper than 3 mm to prevent screen damage.

  • Be cautious near the screen cable, located just below midpoint on left edge.
  • Avoid these areas with numerous spring contacts around phone's perimeter, as bending them can cause issues.

Step 11 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Insert an opening pick at the bottom edge of the device and gently slide it along to separate the adhesive.

  • Leave the pick in the bottom right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 12 | Heat the right edge adhesive

Be cautious when using high heat sources near the screen and battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the screen for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate-but avoid extreme heat which can cause damage.

Step 13 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Insert a second opening pick under the bottom right corner of the screen.

  • Slide the new pick to the top right corner, separating the adhesive on the screen's right edge.
  • Leave the pick in place at the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 14 | Leave a pick in the bottom left corner

Insert a third opening pick under the bottom edge of the screen.

  • Slide the new pick to the bottom left corner.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent adhesive resealing.

Step 15 | Heat the left edge adhesive

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the screen for 2 minutes.

  • Alternatively, you may use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be cautious as excessive heat can damage the screen and/or battery.

Step 16 | Separate the left edge adhesive

  • Insert a 4th opening pick under the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the new pick up and over to the top left corner, using it to separate the adhesive on the screen's left edge.
  • Leave the pick in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 17 | Heat the top edge adhesive

Be cautious when using external heat sources to avoid damaging the screen and/or battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the top edge of the screen for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but exercise extreme care with intense heat.

Step 18 | Separate the top edge adhesive

Insert a fifth opening pick under the top edge of the screen, near the left corner.

  • Slide the pick to the top right corner to separate the adhesive.

Step 19 | Prop up the screen

Place a small box or stack of books to the left of your phone.

  • Prop up the screen using the makeshift stand for safe access.
  • Swing up the right edge of the screen as you would open a book.

If the screen feels stuck, carefully remove any remaining adhesive with an opening pick around the perimeter.

Continue to prop up the screen for safe access to the cable.

Step 20 | Remove the screen cable cover

Insert the opening tool under the upper edge of the screen cable cover.

  • Pry upward gently until the cover is released.
  • Remove the cover completely.

Step 21 | Disconnect the screen

Insert the point of a spudger under the top right corner of the screen's press connector.

  • Gently pry up and disconnect the cable.
  • Remove the screen.

When reconnecting a press connector, align it over its socket and gently press down on one side until it clicks into place. Then, press down on the other side. Avoid pressing in the middle to prevent pin damage.

Handling the Pixel's screen with care is essential due to its fragility.

  • Grip the screen by its edges when handling.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent damage from contact.

Install pre-applied adhesive screens according to manufacturer instructions.

  • For screens without adhesive: apply adhesive to the screen as described in a separate guide.
  • Inspect the screen for plastic liners, tape, or other obstructions.
  • Remove any plastic liners using pull tabs, paying attention to large and small pieces near the camera cutout and perimeter.

Do not proceed without ensuring the screen is liner-free.

  • Reconnect the screen cable and secure its cover in place.
  • Firmly press the screen onto the frame, feeling for clips to "pop" into position.

Apply even pressure around the perimeter to secure the adhesive.

Optional: apply additional pressure to strengthen the bond.

Step 24 | Disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna

Careful not to scrape surface mounted components.

  • Check if phone has 5G mmWave antenna. If not, skip next steps.
  • Insert spudger tip under top edge of press connector for 5G mmWave antenna.
  • Pry up gently to disconnect cable.

Step 25 | Heat the 5G mmWave antenna adhesive

Extreme heat can damage the battery — exercise caution when using heat sources.

  • Apply an iOpener to the antenna cable for two minutes to soften adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate to loosen the adhesive.

Secure the 5G mmWave antenna cable with three pieces of strong adhesive once reassembled.

Step 26 | Separate the 5G mmWave antenna adhesive

Insert flat end of a spudger between bottom of 5G mmWave antenna cable and midframe, above press connector.

  • Twist the spudger to separate the cable from the midframe.

Step 27 | Peel up the 5G mmWave antenna

Remove the 5G mmWave antenna cable by gripping its base and gently prying it from the midframe.

  • During reassembly, press the cable back into place on the midframe.
  • If the adhesive is weak, use a small amount of thin, double-sided tape to secure the cable in position.

Step 28 | Unfasten the 5G mmWave antenna bracket

Keep track of each screw and ensure it returns to its original position.

  • For the Pixel 8 Pro, use a T3 Torx or standard Torx bit, as both will work.
  • Apply constant downward force when turning screws to prevent stripping.
  • Remove the two 5 mm-long 3IP Torx Plus screws using a T3 Torx screwdriver, securing the 5G mmWave antenna bracket.

Step 29 | Remove the 5G mmWave antenna bracket

Hold the front camera out of the way with one hand.

  • Use a spudger to pry up the 5G mmWave antenna bracket from its screw holes.

Be careful not to touch any internal components during this process.

Remove the 5G mmWave antenna bracket and set it aside.

  • During reassembly, insert the bracket at a downward angle so that spring contacts and foam pads make contact with the 5G mmWave antenna.
  • Press the bracket down to secure it in place.

Step 30 | Remove the 5G mmWave antenna

Hold the front camera with one hand.

  • With your other hand, grab the 5G mmWave antenna cable and lift the antenna out of its recess.
  • If the cable disconnects, use your fingers to remove the antenna.

Step 31 | Disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna cable

Hold the 5G mmWave antenna firmly in one hand.

  • Gently twist the 5G mmWave antenna cable with your free hand to release its connection.

Step 32 | Remove the thermal pad

Remove the thermal pad from the 5G mmWave antenna using a spudger.

  • Gently scrape up and remove it; do not damage it.
  • Set aside for reassembly.

If the thermal pad is damaged, replace it with a new one before proceeding.

  • During reassembly, transfer the old thermal pad to the 5G mmWave antenna.
  • Use a spudger's flat end to help push the thermal pad into place.

Step 33 | You're left with the 5G mmWave antenna

Remove and set aside the 5G mmWave antenna.
