Google Pixel 7a Wireless Charging Assembly Replacement

Step 1 | Prepare your phone for disassembly

A charged lithium-ion battery poses a safety risk.

  • Let the battery drain below 25%.
  • Fully power down your phone and disconnect any cables before proceeding.

Step 2 | Soften the adhesive

Extreme heat can cause permanent damage.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the bottom edge for three minutes or use an alternative heating source (hair dryer, heat gun, hot plate).
  • Heat only enough to make the rear cover warm to the touch.

Step 3 | Secure an Anti-Clamp

Using the Anti-Clamp, follow these steps:

  • Pull the blue handle backward to unlock its arms.
  • Slide the arms over the phone's bottom edge, securing one cup on the rear cover and one on the screen.
  • Squeeze the cups together for suction.

Step 4 | Use the Anti-Clamp to create a gap

Lock the arms by pulling the blue handle forward.

  • Turn the handle clockwise one full turn (360 degrees) or until suction cups stretch.
  • Ensure stretched cups remain aligned, adjusting with Anti-Clamp and tape as needed if necessary.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick using the Anti-Clamp

Reheating may be necessary during setup.

  • Place your phone on an object, level between the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Wait one minute or until adhesive separates along bottom edge.
  • Insert opening pick into gap between rear cover and frame.
  • If adhesive doesn't separate, twist handle clockwise one quarter turn and wait another minute. Apply more heat if necessary.
  • Remove suction cups with pull-tabs and set Anti-Clamp aside.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick using a suction handle

If you've already inserted an opening pick, skip this step.

  • Apply a suction handle to the center of the bottom edge of the rear cover.
  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force until a gap forms between the rear cover and frame.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap.
  • Remove the suction handle.

Step 7 | Adhesive information

Identify the adhesive securing the rear cover using the provided picture as a reference.

  • Locate the adhesive strips along the frame's perimeter and near the camera mounts.
  • Slice through the adhesive to release the rear cover, working carefully around these areas.

Step 8 | Angle the opening pick

Angle the opening pick upward so it faces away from the frame.

  • Keep all opening picks angled upward while slicing until the rear cover is fully removed.
  • Slice to the bottom left corner of the rear cover, leaving one pick in place.

Do not remove this pick, as it prevents adhesive resealing.

Step 9 | Separate the bottom edge adhesive

Insert another opening pick in the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the new pick to the bottom right corner of the rear cover, separating the bottom edge adhesive.
  • Leave this pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 10 | Soften the right edge adhesive

Apply iOpener to the right edge of the rear cover for 2 minutes.

  • Or use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate to warm the cover.
  • Avoid overheating the phone.

Step 11 | Separate the right edge adhesive

Avoid damaging the wireless charging coil by not inserting a pick deeper than 5 mm along the right edge.

  • Measure 5 mm from the tip of your pick and mark it with a permanent marker for reference.
  • Insert a third opening pick into the bottom right corner of the rear cover.
  • Slide this pick up the right edge to separate the adhesive, stopping before reaching the camera bar.

Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 12 | Soften the left edge adhesive

Apply a iOpener to the left edge of the rear cover for 2 minutes.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate to warm the rear cover.
  • Do not overheat the phone — risk of damage.

Step 13 | Separate the left edge adhesive

Avoid damaging wireless charging coil and rear cover foam pad by not inserting pick deeper than 3 mm along left edge.

  • Measure 3 mm from tip, mark with permanent marker for reference.
  • Insert a fourth opening pick in bottom left corner of rear cover.

Stop at camera bar to avoid resealing adhesive. Leave this pick in place to maintain separation.

Step 14 | Soften the top edge adhesive

Apply iOpener to top edge of rear cover for 2 minutes.

  • Or use alternative heat sources: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Avoid overheating the phone.

Step 15 | Separate the antenna bracket adhesive

Locate the thick strip of adhesive on the antenna housing.

  • Insert a fifth opening pick in the top left corner, between 8 mm and 10 mm deep.
  • If the pick doesn't fit, try inserting it into the small gap near the camera bar.
  • Slide the pick halfway across the top edge to separate the antenna bracket adhesive.

Step 16 | Separate the remaining top edge adhesive

Remove the opening pick, leaving it at a depth of 3 mm.

  • Slide the pick to the top right corner to slice the remaining top edge adhesive.
  • Do not insert the pick deeper than 3 mm to avoid damaging the antenna housing graphite tape.

Step 17 | Rotate your top edge opening picks

Angle your picks upward and away from the frame.

  • Position the top edge pick with its flat edge under the rear cover.
  • Roll each side pick onto the camera bar, ensuring their flat edges are secure underneath.

Step 18 | Pry up the camera bar

Beware of bending the rear cover.

  • Apply opening picks under the camera bar to release the top edge of the rear cover from the frame.
  • Pry gently back and forth until the camera bar starts to loosen.
  • If adhesive is stubborn, rotate the rear cover side-to-side for further loosening.

Step 19 | Finish separating the adhesive

Use opening picks on the camera bar and slide them down the long edges of the rear cover to loosen any resealing adhesive.

Step 20 | Remove the rear cover

  • Remove the rear cover.
  • Before reassembling, power on your phone and verify its functionality.
  • Power off your phone before continuing with the reassembly process.
  • Verify that all components are functioning correctly prior to sealing the device.

Step 21 | Soften the flash unit adhesive

Careful not to damage nearby components with excessive heat.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the flash unit for one minute or use a hair dryer/heat gun to warm it gently.
  • Only heat until the flash is warm to the touch, avoiding battery and surrounding component heat damage.

Step 22 | Separate the flash unit adhesive

Careful handling is required when removing the flash cable to avoid tearing.

  • Insert a pick under the right edge of the flash and gently pry it away from the cover.

Step 23 | Clean the logic board cover

Remove black foam residue from logic board cover using tweezers or fingers.

Step 24 | Remove the old copper tape

Avoid damaging the battery with your tool during this step.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the underside of the flash for one minute.
  • Hold the neck of the flash cable steady and use tweezers to peel away the copper tape from the flash unit.
  • If the copper tape remained on the logic board cover, remove it now using a replacement if available.

Step 25 | Unfasten the logic board cover

Apply constant, downward force when using standard Torx bits to prevent stripping.

  • For 1IP Torx Plus screws: Use T2 Torx bit.
  • For 3IP Torx Plus screws: Use T3 Torx bit.

Using incorrect torque may damage the logic board or surrounding components.

  • Use a 3IP Torx Plus driver for thirteen 4.3 mm screws securing the logic board cover.
  • Use a 1IP Torx Plus driver to remove the 1.5 mm screw at the right edge of the cover.

Step 26 | Unclip the logic board cover

Insert an opening pick between the bottom right corner of the logic board cover and the frame.

  • Pry up to release the clip securing the cover.

Step 27 | Free the flash unit

Slowly lift the logic board cover and thread the flash unit through its cutout.

  • During reassembly, lower the logic board into place while threading the flash unit through its cutout.

Step 28 | Remove the wireless charging assembly
