Google Pixel 7 Rear Cameras Replacement

This guide was made using a Google Pixel 7 model with a 5G mmWave antenna. If you have a non-mmWave model, ignore the relevant steps.

  • Discharge your battery below 25% before disassembling for safety.
  • Battery precautions: If swollen, take extra care.

Caution: The Pixel 7 contains class 1 lasers. Invisible infrared laser emissions are possible during disassembly.

  • Replace one or both rear cameras in your Google Pixel 7 using this guide.
  • Note: Retaining water resistance depends on reapplying adhesive correctly. IP rating will be lost, so replacement adhesive is required.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Step 1 image

Thumbnail 2

Never start with a fully charged battery, as it poses a risk of thermal runaway.

  • Ensure the battery level is below 25% to prevent potential overheating issues during repair.

Power off your phone completely and disconnect all cables before proceeding.

Step 2 | Screen removal information

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Locate the safety frame holding the Google Pixel 7's screen in place, composed of plastic clips and adhesive.

  • Insert opening picks under the safety frame to prevent it from separating from the screen during removal.
  • Limit pick insertion depth to approximately 3.5 mm to avoid damaging internal components and interfering with plastic clips.
  • Aware of multiple plastic clips surrounding the screen; excessive pick depth may indicate incorrect placement, blocking the pick.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Use the Anti-Clamp tool or skip ahead three steps for an alternate method.

  • Apply clear packing tape over a cracked screen to ensure suction cup adhesion.
  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Slide the arms over either edge of your phone, one on front and one on back.

If the surface is too slippery for the Anti-Clamp, use tape to create a grippier surface.

  • Position suction cups near bottom edge of phone: one on front, one on back.
  • Squeeze cups together to apply suction.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3
  • Pull the blue handle forward to lock the arms.
  • Turn the handle clockwise for 360 degrees or until the cups start to stretch.
  • If suction cups begin to slip out of alignment, loosen slightly and realign arms.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Heat an iOpener or use a hair dryer/heat gun (but be cautious to avoid damage).

  • Fold the iOpener to apply heat along the phone's bottom edge.
  • Wait one minute for adhesive release and gap creation.

Avoid excessive heat that may harm the display or battery.

  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame once a sufficient gap is created.
  • If the gap isn't sufficient, apply more heat, rotate the Anti-Clamp half a turn clockwise, and wait one minute before repeating.

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 6 image

Do not apply excessive heat as it can damage the device.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes to loosen adhesive.
  • Alternative methods: Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate. However, be cautious not to overheat the device.
  • The edge should feel slightly too hot to the touch, but avoid overheating.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen when it's warm.

  • Use clear packing tape on badly cracked displays for better suction.
  • Alternatively, strong tape or superglue can secure the suction cup.
  • Lift the screen and safety frame using the suction handle to create a small gap.

This may be challenging depending on your phone's age; apply more heat if needed.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 8 | Prevent damage to your phone

Step 8 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Avoid damaging your phone by not inserting the pick more than ~2.5 mm when separating the screen adhesive.

  • Be cautious near the left edge, about halfway up, where the screen cable is located.
  • Avoid the perimeter areas with many spring contacts; be very careful not to bend them.

Step 9 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Step 9 image

  • Leave it in place to prevent adhesive resealing.

Step 12 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Check if the adhesive has cooled down, causing it to harden.

  • If so, use a heat gun or iOpener for 1-2 minutes to reheat the adhesive.

When slicing near the front-facing camera, only insert the tip of the opening pick (~2.5 mm) to avoid damaging or smearing the lens.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick into the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide this pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips

Step 13 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert a fifth opening pick and slide it along the right edge of the phone.

Be careful not to remove the display completely at this stage — the screen remains connected via a flex cable.

Continue to slice the remaining adhesive and release the right plastic clips.

Step 14 | Open up the phone assembly

Step 14 image
