Google Pixel 7 Front Camera Replacement

Never touch the capacitor terminals — risk of electric shock.

  • Discharge battery below 25% before disassembling phone for safety, reducing fire risk if battery is damaged.
  • If swollen battery, take precautions to avoid damage or explosion.
  • Pixel 7 contains class 1 lasers; be aware of invisible infrared laser emissions during disassembly.
  • Repair will compromise device's IP rating and water resistance unless new adhesive is applied correctly.

Do not perform this repair if battery is swollen or damaged, as it may cause harm or damage to the device.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Allow the battery to discharge below 25% before proceeding, as a fully charged battery can be a fire hazard.

  • Power off your phone completely.
  • Disconnect all USB cables and adapters from the device.

Step 2 | Screen removal information

Thumbnail 3

Remove the safety frame from the Google Pixel 7 screen.

  • Insert opening picks under the safety frame to avoid separating it from the screen.
  • Limit insertion depth of picks to ~3.5 mm to prevent damaging internals or interfering with plastic clips.

Blocked pick during removal indicates excessive depth; retract and reinsert carefully.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

To demonstrate the Anti-Clamp in action, follow these steps:

  • If your screen is cracked, protect it with clear packing tape for suction cup adhesion.

  • Unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms by pulling the blue handle backwards.
  • Position the arms over either phone edge.
  • Place suction cups near the bottom edge: one on front, one on back.

If the surface is too slippery for the Anti-Clamp to hold, use tape to create a grippier surface.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Lock the arms by pulling the blue handle forward.

  • Turn the handle clockwise for 360 degrees until the suction cups start to stretch.
  • Ensure the suction cups remain aligned; if they slip, loosen slightly and realign the arms.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Apply heat to the iOpener or use a hair dryer/heat gun with caution, as extreme heat can damage the display and/or internal battery.

  • Thread the heated iOpener through the arms of the Anti-Clamp.
  • Fold the iOpener to lay along the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and create a gap. Risk of display damage if forced too quickly.

  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when the Anti-Clamp creates a sufficient gap.

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 6 image

Never apply excessive heat as it may damage the device.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes to loosen adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate; ensure not to overheat (edge should feel slightly too hot)

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Step 7 image

Apply suction handle carefully as screen may be damaged further.

  • Warm the screen with your hand until it's warm to the touch.
  • Attach a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen. For badly cracked screens, apply clear packing tape first for better adhesion.
  • Lift the screen and its safety frame using the suction handle, creating a small gap between the screen and phone assembly.
  • If lifting is difficult, reapply heat to the bottom edge and try again.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 8 | Prevent damage to your phone

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert your pick no deeper than ~2.5 mm when separating screen adhesive.

  • Observe the area near the left edge, about halfway up, where the screen cable is located and exercise extreme caution to avoid damaging it.
  • Beware of many spring contacts along the phone's perimeter; approach with care to prevent bending them.

Step 9 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge, sliding it to the bottom left corner of the screen to slice the adhesive.

  • Keep this new pick in place to prevent the adhesive from reforming.

Step 11 | Release the left clips

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left corner of the screen.

  • Slide the pick along the left edge, slicing the adhesive and releasing plastic clips.
  • Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 12 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Reheat the adhesive with an iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes if it's hard to cut.

  • When slicing near the front facing camera, only use the tip of the opening pick (~2.5 mm) to avoid damage.
  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to keep the adhesive from resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert a fifth opening pick along the right edge of the phone.

  • Slice the remaining adhesive with the new pick.
  • Release the right plastic clips as the adhesive is cut.

Do not remove the display yet — it's still connected by a flex cable.

Step 14 | Open up the phone assembly

Step 14 image

  • To reattach, align the connector carefully and press down on one side until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat on the other side. Do not press in the middle.
  • Misaligned connectors can cause permanent damage by bending pins.

Step 18 | Screen information

Step 18 image

The Pixel's screen is extremely fragile; even minor scratches or dents can cause damage.

  • Grip the screen by its edges when handling.
  • Position the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent contact with foreign objects.

Step 19 | Separate the screen

Step 19 image

Separate the screen from the phone.

  • During reassembly, check that all screws are tightened and there are no loose parts.
  • Reconnect the screen and test your phone to ensure it works properly.
  • Power down the phone and continue with reassembly.

Do not touch the screen during boot-up, as improper calibration may cause touch issues.

  • Clean relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) before applying new adhesive.
  • Apply new adhesive where necessary.
