Google Pixel 7 Battery Replacement

Discharge battery below 25% before disassembling for fire safety.

  • Take precautions if the battery is swollen.

Caution: The Pixel 7 contains class 1 lasers, which may emit invisible infrared laser emissions during disassembly.

Your device will lose its IP rating and water resistance after repair; reapplying adhesive is crucial to retain it.

Charged batteries can ignite if damaged — drain to 25% or lower.

  • Power off the device completely.
  • Unplug all cables from the device.

Identify the safety frame holding the screen in place, comprised of plastic clips and adhesive.

  • Insert opening picks under the safety frame to prevent it from separating from the screen.
  • Limit pick insertion depth to approximately 3.5 mm to avoid damaging internals or interfering with plastic clips.
  • Avoid inserting picks too deeply, as this may block the removal process due to interference with surrounding plastic clips.

If screen is cracked, cover with clear packing tape for improved suction.

  • Unlock Anti-Clamp's arms by pulling blue handle backwards.
  • Slide arms over phone edge (left or right).

Tape can be applied to slippery surfaces for better grip, if necessary.

  • Position suction cups near bottom edge of phone (one on front, one on back).
  • Squeeze cups together to apply suction.

Lock the arms by pulling the blue handle forward.

  • Turn the handle clockwise for 360 degrees or until the suction cups start to stretch.
  • Ensure the suction cups remain aligned. If they begin to slip, loosen them slightly and realign the arms.

Apply heat with caution to avoid damaging display or internal battery.

  • Heat an iOpener and thread it through the Anti-Clamp arms.
  • Fold the iOpener onto the phone's bottom edge.

Wait one minute for adhesive to release before proceeding.

  • Insert opening pick under screen frame when a sufficient gap is achieved.
  • If necessary, reapply heat and rotate Anti-Clamp handle clockwise in small increments (half a turn).

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Be cautious of overheating when using a heat source.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but ensure the edge feels slightly too hot to touch.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen once it's warm to the touch.

For badly cracked displays, cover with clear packing tape for suction cup adhesion or use strong tape as an alternative.

  • Lift the screen and safety frame using the suction handle to create a small gap between the screen and phone assembly.
  • If struggling, reapply heat and retry, noting that difficulty may vary with phone age.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 8 | Prevent damage to your phone

Do not insert your pick more than ~2.5 mm to avoid damaging your phone.

  • Identify the screen cable located just below the middle on the left edge of the phone.
  • Screen cable: Exercise extreme caution here to prevent damage or tearing.
  • The perimeter has numerous spring contacts; be extremely careful in these areas to avoid bending them.

Step 9 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Insert the opening pick into the bottom right corner of the screen, slicing the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

  • Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge, sliding it to the bottom left corner.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 11 | Release the left clips

Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left screen corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge, slicing the adhesive and releasing clips.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing.

Step 12 | Slice the top edge adhesive

If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it may have cooled down.

  • Reheat the adhesive for 1-2 minutes using a iOpener or heat gun.
  • When slicing near the front facing camera, insert only the tip of the opening pick (~2.5 mm) to avoid damage.
  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips

Insert another opening pick on the right edge.

  • Slide it along the edge to cut remaining adhesive.
  • Release the plastic clips.

Do not remove the display yet, as it's still connected by a flex cable.

Step 14 | Open up the phone assembly

Locate the right edge of the screen and lift it up towards the left side.

Avoid twisting or moving the screen too far, as this may strain the flex cable.

  • Lift the screen up towards the left, like opening a book.
  • Rest the screen upside down and parallel to the frame before proceeding.

Step 15 | Release the display cable bracket

Use a pair of tweezers to loosen the display cable bracket.

  • Insert one arm into the opening at the upper end.
  • Pry the bracket inwards to release it.

Step 16 | Remove the display cable bracket

  • Remove the display cable bracket using a pair of tweezers.
  • Pull it from underneath the midframe, moving towards the camera area.

Step 17 | Disconnect the display cable

Misalignment of the display flex cable connector may cause pin bending and permanent damage.

  • Use a spudger to disconnect the display flex cable by prying the connector straight up from its socket.
  • To reattach, align and press down on one side of the connector until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side.

Do not press down in the middle of the connector or when it is misaligned.

Fragile screen: avoid scratches and dents.

  • Grip screen edges only when handling.
  • Place screen on soft, lint-free cloth to prevent damage.

Step 19 | Separate the screen

Separate the screen from the phone.

  • During reassembly: Check that all screws are tightened and there are no loose parts.
  • Reconnect the screen and test your phone to ensure it works properly.

Do not touch the screen during the boot-up calibration sequence, as improper touch calibration can cause issues.

  • Clean relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and apply new adhesive where needed.
  • Follow specific guides for custom-cut adhesives or pre-cut adhesive cards.

Step 20 | Remove the black silicone pad

Avoid damaging the battery during these steps, as it can lead to chemical leaks or fires.

  • Remove the black silicone pad from the battery and midframe using a pair of tweezers.

Step 21 | Peel off the upper graphite foil

Apply gentle pressure with a pair of tweezers to peel off the upper graphite foil.

  • If the foil resists removal, place a heated iOpener on it for two minutes to loosen the adhesive.

Step 22 | Peel off the lower graphite foil

Remove the lower graphite foil using a pair of tweezers.

If the foil does not separate easily, apply a heated iOpener for two minutes to loosen its adhesive.

Step 23 | Unfasten the loudspeaker screws

Use a Torx T3 screwdriver to remove the three 5.1 mm-long screws securing the loudspeaker.

Use tweezers to carefully lift the loudspeaker from its recess.

  • Lift the loudspeaker out.
  • Remove the loudspeaker.

Step 25 | Unfasten the midframe screws

Remove the Torx T3 screws using a Torx T3 screwdriver.

  • The screws are 9 in total and have a length of 5.1 mm.
  • They secure the midframe to the device.

Step 26 | Remove the midframe

Use tweezers to carefully remove the midframe.

  • During reassembly, inspect the thermal pad for damage.
  • If damaged, proceed as follows:
    • Clean the area with high-concentration (greater than 90%) isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber or lint-free cloth to ensure it's free of debris.

    • Apply a new thermal pad.

Step 27 | Disconnect the battery cable

Disconnect the battery cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.

Overheating can damage the device.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the back of the device for at least 3 minutes.
  • A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may also be used; however, be cautious not to overheat the device.
  • The edge should feel slightly too hot to the touch before proceeding.

Step 29 | Separate the battery pull tabs

Remove the plastic pull tabs by gently prying them away with tweezers or your fingertips.

Step 30 | Separate the battery's adhesive

Separate the battery by sawing motion between tabs along its length.

Work slowly to avoid losing grip and accidentally lifting a tab from under the battery.

  • If adhesive is stubborn, apply more heat and wait for it to loosen.
  • Alternatively, proceed with next step if release strip is lost or torn.

Step 31 | How to remove a stuck battery

Do not apply excessive alcohol, risk of damaging NFC antenna and charging coil.

  • Apply 2-3 drops of high concentration (90%+ isopropyl alcohol) to the top edge of the battery gap.
  • Wait 1 minute for the adhesive to weaken.
  • Gently lift the top edge of the battery with a spudger or opening pick, then grasp it with your fingers.

Apply slow, consistent pressure; avoid puncturing or bending the battery, which may cause a leak or fire.

Step 32 | Remove the battery

Remove the old battery by tilting it out of the device.

  • Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery, as this is a potential safety hazard.
  • Apply pre-cut adhesive tape to the battery well where the old adhesive was located.
  • Temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard to ensure proper alignment.

  • Disconnect the battery after it's seated in place.
  • Press the new battery firmly into position, ensuring an even gap around it.
