Google Pixel 7 Pro Screen Replacement

Do not proceed with a swollen battery as it can cause injury or fire during disassembly.

  • Discharge the phone's battery below 25% before starting the repair.
  • Verify that your new screen has the fingerprint reader attached; if not, you will need to reinstall and recalibrate it.

The Pixel 7 Pro contains class 1 lasers, which can emit invisible infrared laser emissions during disassembly. Take necessary precautions.

Replacement adhesive is required for this repair, as reapplication will impact water resistance and IP rating.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Step 1 image

Ensure the battery is depleted below 25% capacity to prevent potential damage or fire.

  • Power down the phone completely, disconnecting all power sources.

Step 2 | Screen removal information

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Do not pry at the screen seam, as this can damage the phone.

  • Pry at the bezel seam to release the plastic clips holding the screen in place.
  • Insert opening picks up to ~3.5 mm deep during removal to avoid damaging internals and interfering with plastic clips.
  • Avoid inserting picks too far under the screen, as this can block them or damage the phone's internal components.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

Use the Anti-Clamp tool to open the device.

  • If your screen is cracked, apply clear packing tape for better suction cup adhesion.

  • Pull the blue handle of the Anti-Clamp backwards to unlock its arms.
  • Slide the arms over either edge of the phone.

If your phone's surface is too slippery, use tape to create a grippier surface.

Position one suction cup on the front and one on the back near the bottom edge of the phone, then squeeze them together to apply suction.

Step 4

Pull the blue handle forward to lock the arms.

  • Turn the handle clockwise for at least 360 degrees, or until the cups start to stretch.
  • Ensure the suction cups remain aligned; if they begin to slip, loosen and realign as needed.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Apply heat to the iOpener or use a hair dryer/heat gun, but be cautious not to damage the display or internal battery.

  • Fold the heated iOpener and place it along the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to loosen, creating a gap.

If insufficient gap is created, reapply heat and rotate the Anti-Clamp clockwise by half a turn. Wait one minute before repeating.

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 6 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes.

  • The device can also be heated using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be careful not to overheat the device; the edge should feel slightly too hot to touch.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Step 7 image

Apply caution when using suction cups or strong tape, as excessive force can damage components.

  • Warm the screen with a hair dryer until it's warm to the touch.
  • Use a suction handle on the bottom edge of the screen for easy removal.

If the display is severely cracked, apply clear packing tape to create a smooth surface or use strong tape instead.

  • Lift the screen and its safety frame with the suction handle to create a small gap between the screen and phone assembly.
  • Apply additional heat if necessary to facilitate removal.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap carefully.

Step 8 | Prevent damage to your phone

Step 8 image

Avoid damaging your phone by not inserting the pick more than 2.5 mm.

  • Be cautious when approaching the screen cable, located less than halfway up the left edge of the phone.
  • Avoid bending spring contacts around the perimeter of the phone to prevent damage.

Step 9 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2

Move the opening pick to the bottom right corner of the screen and gently slide it along the adhesive.

Never remove the opening pick until the repair is complete — this will allow the adhesive to reform, making the repair more difficult.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge and slide it to the bottom left corner.

  • Slice the adhesive by working the opening pick to the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing.

Be cautious around the plastic clip in the bottom left corner, as it may block your opening pick.

Only use the tip of the opening pick (~1 mm) to work your way around it.

Step 11 | Release the left clips

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert opening pick under bottom left corner of screen.

  • Slide opening pick along left edge, cutting adhesive and releasing plastic clips.
  • Leave opening pick in top left corner to prevent adhesive reseal.

Step 12 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 3

Adhesive may have cooled down, use iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes.

  • Insert only ~2.5 mm of opening pick when slicing near front facing camera to avoid damage.
  • Insert fourth opening pick at top left corner of screen.
  • Slide opening pick along top edge of phone to slice adhesive.
  • Leave opening pick in top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert a fifth opening pick and slide it along the right edge of the phone.

  • Slice the remaining adhesive and release the right plastic clips.

Do not remove the display yet as the screen is connected to the phone assembly by a flex cable.

Step 14 | Open up the phone

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 3

Position the screen for removal by lifting its right edge and tilting it towards the left side of the device.

Avoid twisting the screen or moving it too far away from the frame, as this may strain or damage the flex cable.

Lay the screen upside down and parallel to the frame.

Step 15 | Release the display cable bracket

Step 15 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply gentle to moderate force to loosen the display cable bracket.

  • tweezers into the upper end opening of the display cable bracket.

Step 16 | Remove the display cable bracket

Step 16 image

Thumbnail 3

Remove the display cable bracket using a tweezers.

  • Pull the bracket from underneath the midframe, directing it towards the camera.

Step 17 | Disconnect the display cable

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 2

Disconnect the display flex cable by prying its connector straight up with a spudger.

  • To reattach, align and press down on one side until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat on the other side; do not press down on the middle.
  • Misaligned connector risk: bent pins causing permanent damage.

Step 18 | Screen information

Step 18 image

Handle the Pixel's screen with care — scratches or dents can cause damage.

  • Grip the screen by its edges to avoid applying pressure to sensitive areas.
  • When placing the screen, ensure nothing touches the bottom; consider using a soft, lint-free cloth as a work surface.

Step 19 | Separate the screen

Step 19 image

Thumbnail 3

Remove the screen from the phone.

  • During reassembly:
    • Finger Sensor Liner: Remove any remaining liners from the replacement screen around the front-facing camera hole and sensor cutout.
    • Check for deformed grounding springs on the frame, which should rise at a shallow angle. Gently bend them downward with your finger if necessary.

Remember to reinstall the display cable bracket.

  • Test the phone's functionality before sealing it up:
    • Temporarily connect the screen and power on the phone to ensure proper operation.
    • Power off the phone and disconnect the screen once testing is complete.

If using custom-cut adhesives or pre-cut adhesive cards, follow the accompanying guides for specific installation instructions.

  • New Screen Installation:
    • Calibrate Fingerprint Sensor: Refer to the guide provided for calibration steps.
