Google Pixel 7 Pro Rear Camera Assembly Replacement

Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling for safety and reduced risk of fire.

  • This guide, created by iFixit staff, is not endorsed by Google. Learn more about our guides here.
  • Use this guide to replace the rear camera assembly in your Google Pixel 7 Pro (GE2AE model with 5G mmWave antenna). Non-mmWave models can still use this guide; just ignore the mmWave steps.
  • If you have a swollen battery, take necessary precautions.

Class 1 lasers are present in the Pixel 7 Pro. Disassembly may expose you to invisible infrared laser emissions.

Reapplying adhesive correctly is crucial for retaining water resistance after repair, but your device will lose its IP rating. Replacement adhesive is required for completion.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Discharge battery below 25% charge to prevent potential fire hazard.

  • Power down the device completely.
  • Disconnect all external connections, including charging cables.

Step 2 | Screen removal information

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Avoid prying at the screen seam, as it separates the screen from the phone.

  • Pry at the bezel seam where the plastic bezel meets the frame, held in place by plastic clips.
  • Insert opening picks carefully to avoid separating the screen from its safety frame.

Only insert picks up to ~3.5 mm deep during removal to avoid damaging internals and interfering with plastic clips.

  • Avoid inserting picks too deeply, as this can block access due to multiple plastic clips around the screen.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

If screen is cracked, cover with clear packing tape for better suction.

  • Pull blue handle backwards to unlock Anti-Clamp arms.
  • Slide arms over phone's left or right edge.

Tape can be applied if surface is too slippery for Anti-Clamp to hold.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Lock the arms by pulling the blue handle forward.

  • Turn the handle clockwise 360 degrees until the cups start to stretch.
  • Suction cups must remain aligned. If they become misaligned, loosen them and realign the arms.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply moderate heat using an iOpener, hair dryer, or heat gun to the Anti-Clamp.

Proceed with care to avoid damaging the display and/or internal battery.

  • Fold the iOpener so it lies along the phone's bottom edge.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and a gap to form.
  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame once the Anti-Clamp has created a sufficient gap.

If insufficient gap, apply more heat and rotate handle clockwise by half a turn. Wait one minute between turns.

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 6 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes.

Avoid overheating, as this can damage the device; the edge should only feel slightly too hot to the touch.

If an iOpener is not available, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate instead.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen when it's warm to the touch.

For badly cracked screens, use clear packing tape or strong tape for better adhesion or superglue if necessary.

  • Lift the screen and safety frame with the suction handle to create a small gap.
  • Be prepared to reapply heat to an older phone model as needed.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 8 | Prevent damage to your phone

Step 8 image

If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it may have cooled down — use your iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes to reheat it.

  • When slicing near the front facing camera, insert only the tip of the opening pick (~2.5 mm) to avoid damaging or smearing the camera.
  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips
