Google Pixel 7 Pro Earpiece Speaker Replacement

Discharge battery below 25% for safety before disassembling your phone.

  • The Pixel 7 Pro has a swollen battery warning: take precautions if necessary.

Caution: The Pixel 7 Pro contains class 1 lasers. Disassembly could result in exposure to invisible infrared laser emissions.

  • Replace the earpiece speaker in your Google Pixel 7 Pro using this guide.
  • Retaining water resistance after repair depends on reapplying adhesive correctly, and may compromise IP rating.

Use replacement adhesive to complete this repair.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Step 1 image

Thumbnail 2

A fully charged battery is a fire hazard if damaged.

  • Drain the battery to below 25%
  • Power Off the device, unplugging all cables in the process.

Step 2 | Screen removal information

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Do not pry at the screen seam, as this can damage the phone.

  • Pry at the bezel seam to release the plastic clips holding the screen in place.
  • Insert opening picks carefully, making sure they are in the correct position to avoid damaging the safety frame.
  • Limit pick insertion depth to ~3.5 mm to prevent damaging internals and interfering with plastic clips.

If your pick becomes stuck, it may indicate that you have inserted it too deeply underneath the screen.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

If your screen is cracked, cover it with clear packing tape before proceeding.

  • Hold the blue handle and pull it backwards to unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Slide the unlocked arms over either the left or right edge of your phone.

If necessary, apply tape to create a grippier surface for better suction.

  • Position the suction cups near the bottom edge of the phone (one on the front, one on the back).
  • Squeeze the suction cups together to apply traction and lift the device.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Move the blue handle forward to secure the arms.

  • Rotate the handle clockwise 360° or until the suction cups begin to stretch.
  • Verify that the suction cups remain properly aligned. If they start to slip, loosen them slightly and reposition the arms.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Apply heat with an iOpener or hair dryer/heat gun to loosen the adhesive.

Proceed with caution: extreme heat can damage the display or internal battery.

  • Fold the iOpener to fit along the phone's bottom edge.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and a gap to form.

Do not crank more than half a turn at a time; wait one minute between turns.

  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when a large enough gap is created.
  • If the gap is insufficient, apply more heat and rotate the Anti-Clamp clockwise by half a turn.

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 6 image

Apply a iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes.

Be cautious of overheating when using alternative heat sources, such as a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.

  • The edge should feel slightly too hot to the touch.
  • Monitor temperature and adjust heat accordingly.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

The screen may be hot and fragile, handle with care.

  • Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen or use strong tape if cracked.
  • Lift the screen including its safety frame with the suction handle to create a gap between the screen and phone assembly.

If stuck, apply more heat to the bottom edge and try again.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 8 | Prevent damage to your phone

Step 8 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Insert pick no more than ~2.5 mm to prevent screen damage.

  • Identify the screen cable, located just below the middle of the left edge.
  • Avoid damaging the spring contacts along the phone's perimeter by exercising extreme care in these areas.

Step 9 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Step 9 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Insert the opening pick at the bottom right corner of the screen and gently pry the adhesive apart.

Do not remove the opening pick, as this will allow the adhesive to reseal.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Thumbnail 2

Be careful not to damage the screen.

  • Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge and slide it to the bottom left corner of the screen to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.
  • A plastic clip is located in the bottom left corner; use only the tip (~1 mm) of the opening pick to navigate around it.

Step 11 | Release the left clips

Step 11 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert opening pick under screen's bottom left corner.

  • Slide pick along left edge, slicing adhesive and releasing clips.
  • Leave pick in top left corner to hold open the adhesive.

Step 12 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Reheat the iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes if the adhesive is hard to cut.

  • When slicing near the front facing camera, only insert the tip of the opening pick (~2.5 mm) to avoid damage.
  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Be careful not to damage or smear the camera.

  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave one pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert the fifth opening pick into the right edge of the phone.

Be cautious - do not attempt to remove the display completely at this stage as it is still connected by a flex cable.

  • Slide the fifth opening pick along the right edge of the phone to loosen any remaining adhesive and release the right plastic clips.

Step 14 | Open up the phone

Step 14 image

  • Use a spudger to disconnect the display flex cable by prying the connector straight up from its socket.
  • To re-attach, carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place. Repeat on the other side.
  • Avoid pressing in the middle, as this can cause pin bending and permanent damage.

Step 18 | Screen information

Step 18 image

Handle the Pixel's screen with care as the back is fragile and prone to damage from scratches or dents.

  • Grip the screen by its edges when handling to prevent accidental touches.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth in your work area, ensuring nothing touches the bottom of the screen.

Step 19 | Separate the screen

Step 19 image

Do not touch the screen during the calibration sequence.

  • Separate the screen from the phone assembly.

Verify all screws are tightened and there are no loose parts before proceeding.

  • Clean areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) as needed, then apply new adhesive.
  • Follow specific guidance for custom-cut adhesives or pre-cut adhesive cards.

During boot-up, the screen will calibrate; avoid touching it to prevent improper touch calibration and issues.

Step 20 | Peel off the graphite foil

Step 20 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

A punctured or bent battery may leak dangerous chemicals or cause a fire.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to carefully peel off the graphite foil from the battery and midframe.
  • If necessary, apply a heated iOpener to the back for two minutes to loosen the adhesive.
