Google Pixel 7 Pro Battery Replacement

For your safety, discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling your phone, as damaged batteries can cause a fire.

  • The guide is based on the GE2AE model with a 5G mmWave antenna; non-mmWave models should ignore relevant steps.
  • Retain original safety precautions if your battery is swollen or shows signs of damage.

Caution: The Pixel 7 Pro contains class 1 lasers, which can emit invisible infrared laser emissions during disassembly. Be aware of the potential risk to your eyes.

Before starting, note that water resistance will be lost due to adhesive reapplication requirements. You'll need replacement adhesive for this repair.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

A charged battery poses a risk of fire if damaged.

  • Drain the battery to less than 25% charge before starting this repair.
  • Fully power off the device, then disconnect all cables.

Step 2 | Screen removal information

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Examine the Google Pixel 7 Pro's screen for plastic clips and adhesive.

  • Note the screen seam, which separates the screen from the rest of the phone; do not pry at this point.
  • The bezel seam is where the protective bezel meets the frame, held by plastic clips – insert your opening pick here to pry.

Only insert picks up to ~3.5 mm during removal to avoid damaging internals and interfering with plastic clips.

There are several plastic clips around the screen; if an opening pick gets blocked, it was inserted too deep underneath the screen.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3
  • Ignore these steps if not using the Anti-Clamp. Proceed with next three steps or refer to alternate method.
  • Cover cracked screens with clear packing tape for suction cup adhesion.

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to release the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Slide arms over phone edges (left or right).
  • Position suction cups near bottom edge, one on front and one on back.
  • Squeeze cups together for suction application.
  • Use tape to create a grippier surface if phone is too slippery.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3
  • Pull the blue handle forward to lock the arms.
  • Turn the handle clockwise for 360 degrees or until the suction cups start to stretch.
  • Make sure the suction cups remain aligned with each other. If they begin to slip out of alignment, loosen them slightly and realign the arms.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Proceed with care when applying heat to avoid damaging the display or internal battery.

  • Heat an iOpener and thread it through the arms of the Anti-Clamp.
  • Fold the iOpener so it lays on the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when a large enough gap is created.

If insufficient gap, reapply heat, rotate Anti-Clamp clockwise half a turn, wait one minute, then repeat as needed.

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 6 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for 3+ minutes to loosen adhesive.

  • The heat source should make the edge slightly too hot to touch.
  • Alternative heat tools: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be careful not to overheat device.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 3

If display is badly cracked, cover with clear packing tape for suction cup adhesion.

  • Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen once warm to the touch.
  • Lift the screen and safety frame using the suction handle to create a gap between the screen and phone assembly.

If difficulty persists, apply more heat to the bottom edge and try again.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 8 | Prevent damage to your phone

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge, sliding it to the bottom left corner.

  • Slice the adhesive with this new pick.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing.

Be cautious of a plastic clip in the bottom left corner that may block your tool — use only the tip (~1 mm) when working around it.

Step 11 | Release the left clips

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick into the bottom left corner of the screen.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to cut the adhesive and release plastic clips.
  • Leave the opening pick in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 12 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Reheat the adhesive if it becomes hard to cut by using your iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes.

  • Avoid damaging or smearing the camera near the front facing camera: only insert the tip of the opening pick (~2.5 mm).
  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen, taking care not to damage any internal components.

  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips

Step 13 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert a fifth opening pick and slide it along the right edge of the phone.

Be careful not to separate the display from the flex cable.

Do not attempt to remove the display yet, as the screen is still connected by a flex cable.

  • The goal is to slice the remaining adhesive and release the right plastic clips.

Step 14 | Open up the phone

Step 14 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Slide the right edge of the screen upwards, towards the left side.

Avoid twisting or over-rotating the screen — risk of flex cable damage.

Position the screen upside down and parallel to the frame.

Step 15 | Release the display cable bracket

Step 15 image

Disconnect the display flex cable by prying its connector straight up from its socket using a spudger.

  • To reattach, align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other.
  • Do not press in the middle as this can cause permanent damage to the pins.

Step 18 | Screen information

Step 18 image

Handle the screen by its edges to avoid damage.

  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth or other non-abrasive surface.
  • Avoid touching the bottom of the screen with anything during handling and placement.

Step 19 | Separate the screen

Step 19 image

Separate the screen from the phone assembly.

  • During reassembly:
    • Check that all screws are tightened and there are no loose parts to avoid damaging components.

    • Reconnect the screen.

Test your phone to ensure it works properly. Power it down, then continue reassembly.

  • Apply new adhesive where necessary after cleaning areas with isopropyl alcohol (≥90%).

  • Follow the provided guide for custom-cut adhesives or pre-cut adhesive cards.

During boot-up, do not touch the screen during calibration to prevent improper touch calibration and issues.

Step 20 | Peel off the graphite foil

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Use tweezers, or your fingers, to remove the plastic pull tabs from the battery.

Step 28 | Separate the battery's adhesive

Step 28 image

Work slowly when pulling the battery as it's easy to lose grip and accidentally pull the tab up from under the battery.

  • Grip the pull tabs firmly and slide it up until you feel it contact adhesive underneath.
  • Lift straight up to pull the battery away from its adhesive.

If you're having difficulty separating the adhesive, apply more heat and wait for it to loosen.

  • Alternatively, have a friend hold the phone down while lifting if available.
  • If necessary, follow the next step for an alternative method in case of release strip loss or too-strong adhesive.

Step 29 | How to remove a stuck battery

Step 29 image

Applying too much alcohol can damage the NFC antenna and charging coil.

  • Apply a few drops of high concentration (90% or higher) isopropyl alcohol into the gap at the top edge of the battery.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to weaken.
  • Use the flat end of a spudger or an opening pick to gently lift the top edge of the battery until it can be removed by hand.

Avoid puncturing or bending the battery, as this may cause leakage or fire risk.

Step 30 | Remove the battery

Step 30 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Remove the battery by tilting it out of the device.

Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery, as this can pose a safety hazard.

  • Apply pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape to the battery well where the old adhesive was located, not directly on the new battery.

  • Temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard for proper alignment. Disconnect it once seated.
  • Verify the battery is centered in its well with an even gap around it.
  • Press the new battery firmly into place.
