Thumbnail 3

Identify the screen's seams: the screen seam and bezel seam.

  • Do not pry at the screen seam, as it separates the screen from the phone.
  • Pry at the bezel seam, where the plastic bezel meets the frame. It is held in place by plastic clips.

Ensure your opening picks are inserted correctly to avoid separating the screen from its safety frame.

  • Insert opening picks up to ~3.5 mm deep during removal to prevent damage to internals and interference with plastic clips.
  • Avoid inserting picks too deeply, as this may cause them to get stuck due to surrounding plastic clips.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

Three steps demonstrate the Anti-Clamp, designed to simplify opening.

  • If not using the Anti-Clamp, skip ahead three steps for an alternate method.
  • If your screen is cracked, apply clear packing tape for better suction.

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Slide the arms over either edge of your phone.
  • Position suction cups near the bottom edge, one on the front and one on the back.
  • Squeeze the cups together to apply suction.
  • If your phone is too slippery, use tape for a better grip.

Step 4

Hold the blue handle forward to lock the arms.

  • Turn the handle clockwise for 360 degrees or until the cups start to stretch.
  • Keep the suction cups aligned at all times. If they slip, loosen and realign the arms.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Heat an iOpener and thread it through the arms of the Anti-Clamp.

Use caution when applying heat from a hair dryer or heat gun, as excessive heat can damage the display and/or internal battery.

  • Fold the heated iOpener to lie along the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and create an opening gap.
  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when a large enough gap is created by the Anti-Clamp.

If insufficient gap is created, apply more heat, rotate the handle clockwise half a turn, and wait one minute before repeating. Avoid over-cranking.

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 6 image

Apply a heated iOpener to loosen adhesive underneath for at least 3 minutes.

  • Alternatively use a hair dryer, heat gun or hot plate but ensure device doesn't overheat (slightly too hot to touch).

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge and slide it to the bottom left corner.

  • Slice the adhesive by angling the opening pick slightly.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing.
  • Use only the tip (~1 mm) of the opening pick to work around the plastic clip, as it may interfere with progress.

Step 11 | Release the left clips

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3
  • Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Slide it along the left edge, slicing the adhesive and releasing plastic clips.
  • Leave the pick in the top left corner to hold open the adhesive.

Step 12 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Check if the iOpener or heat gun has cooled down. If so, reheat for 1-2 minutes.

  • When slicing near the front facing camera, only use the tip of the opening pick (~2.5 mm) to avoid damage.
  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the pick along the top edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips

Step 13 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert a fifth opening pick and slide it along the right edge of the phone.

Do not attempt to remove the display at this stage as the screen is still connected via a flex cable.

  • The goal is to slice the remaining adhesive and release the right plastic clips.

Step 14 | Open up the phone

Step 14 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Lift the right edge of the screen up and towards the left side, similar to opening a book.

Avoid twisting or moving the screen too far away from the frame, as this may strain or damage the flex cable.

Rest the screen upside down and parallel to the frame.

Step 15 | Release the display cable bracket

Step 15 image
