Battery Disconnection

This guide is for use as a prerequisite only and is not intended for standalone use.

  • This guide is part of another procedure, so please refer to the parent guide for overall context.
  • The purpose of this guide is to provide step-by-step instructions on how to disconnect the battery in the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Step 1 image

Thumbnail 2

Allow your battery to discharge to less than 25% charge before proceeding, as a fully charged battery can pose a risk of fire during the repair process.

  • Ensure your device is powered off completely.
  • Disconnect any cables or chargers from your phone.

Step 2 | Screen removal information

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Remove the Google Pixel 7 Pro screen by prying at the bezel seam, where the plastic bezel meets the frame.

  • Avoid prying at the screen seam, as it separates the screen from the phone's rest.
  • Insert opening picks up to ~3.5 mm deep to avoid damaging internals and plastic clips.
  • Position picks carefully to avoid separating the screen from its safety frame.
  • Be cautious not to insert picks too deeply, as this can block them or damage surrounding components.

Step 3 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

For optimal results, utilize the Anti-Clamp as instructed in its dedicated guide.

  • Pre-treat a cracked screen with clear packing tape for improved suction.
  • Pull the blue handle to release the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Slide the arms over either edge of your phone (left or right).

Tape can be applied to ensure a secure grip if the surface is too slippery.

  • Position suction cups near the bottom edge, one on the front and one on the back.
  • Squeeze the cups together for optimal suction.

Step 4

Step 4 image

  • Pull the blue handle forward to lock the arms.
  • Turn the handle clockwise by at least 360 degrees or until the cups start to stretch.
  • Ensure suction cups remain aligned with each other throughout the process. If they begin to slip out of alignment, loosen them slightly and realign the arms to avoid damage.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Apply heat from an iOpener to the Anti-Clamp

  • Proceed with care, as extreme heat can damage the display and/or internal battery.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer or heat gun, but take caution.

Position the iOpener on the bottom edge of the phone.

  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and create an opening gap.
  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when a large enough gap is created.

If insufficient gap, apply more heat and rotate Anti-Clamp handle clockwise half a turn.

  • Avoid over-tightening: crank no more than half a turn at a time
  • Wait one minute between turns to allow the Anti-Clamp and time to work effectively.

Step 6 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 6 image

Never apply excessive heat — risk of damage.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • The edge should feel slightly too hot to the touch, but avoid overheating.

Step 7 | Insert an opening pick

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen when it's warm to the touch.

  • If the display is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Alternatively, use strong tape or superglue the suction cup directly to the broken screen if necessary.

Be cautious of heat damage and potential electrical shock when working on the screen.

  • Lift the screen with its safety frame using the suction handle, creating a small gap between it and the phone assembly.
  • Applying more heat to the bottom edge may help if you're having trouble.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 8 | Prevent damage to your phone

Step 8 image

Insert pick no more than 2.5 mm deep when separating screen adhesive.

  • Note the location of the screen cable, just below the left edge (about halfway up). Be extremely cautious to avoid damaging it.
  • Beware of spring contacts around the phone's perimeter; take care not to bend them while working in these areas.

Step 9 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2

Position the opening pick at the bottom right corner of the screen and slide it along the edge to cut through the adhesive.

  • Secure the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing itself.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge and slide it to the bottom left corner of the screen.

Be careful not to push too hard, as there's a plastic clip that may block the opening pick.

  • Use only the tip of the opening pick (~1 mm) to work your way around the clip.
  • Leave the second opening pick in place to prevent resealing.

Step 11 | Release the left clips

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3
  • Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left screen corner.
  • Slide the pick along the left edge, slicing adhesive and releasing clips.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealed adhesive.

Step 12 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Reheat the adhesive with your iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes if it's become hard to cut.

When slicing near the front-facing camera, only insert the tip of the opening pick (~2.5 mm) to avoid damage or smearing.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 13 | Release the right clips

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert a fifth opening pick and slide it along the right edge of the phone.

Do not attempt to remove the display at this stage — the screen remains connected via a flex cable.

  • The opening pick should slice any remaining adhesive and release the right plastic clips.

Step 14 | Open up the phone

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 3

Lift the right edge of the screen up and towards the left side.

Avoid twisting the screen or moving it too far, as this may strain or damage the flex cable.

  • Continue to lift until the screen is resting upside down and parallel to the frame.

Step 15 | Release the display cable bracket

Step 15 image
