Google Pixel 6 Rear Camera Replacement

Discharging the battery below 25% before disassembly reduces the risk of a thermal event if the battery is accidentally damaged.

  • Be aware that your Google Pixel 6 contains class 1 lasers, which can emit invisible infrared laser emissions during disassembly.
  • If your battery is swollen, take necessary precautions to avoid damage or explosion.
  • Replacing the rear camera assembly may compromise water resistance; reapplying adhesive correctly will affect your device's IP rating.
  • You'll need replacement adhesive for reassembling the device.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

A fully charged battery poses a risk of explosion or fire during the repair.

  • Allow the battery to drain below 25% charge before proceeding with the repair.
  • Fully power off your phone and disconnect any connected cables.

Step 2 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Ensure your screen is protected with clear packing tape if cracked.

  • Use the Anti-Clamp: Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock its arms.
  • (Optional) Slide the arms over the left or right phone edge.

If your phone's surface is too slippery, apply tape for better grip before proceeding.

  • Position one suction cup on the front near the bottom, and the other on the back.
  • Squeeze the cups together to apply suction.

Step 3

Apply heat with caution to avoid damaging the display and/or internal battery.

  • Heat an iOpener or use a hair dryer/heat gun, but be careful not to apply extreme heat.
  • Fold the iOpener to lay on the phone's bottom edge.

Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and create a gap.

  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when the Anti-Clamp creates a large enough gap.
  • If needed, apply more heat and rotate the handle clockwise half a turn at a time, waiting one minute between turns.

Step 5 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 5 image

Apply a iOpener to the screen and let it sit for 3+ minutes.

  • A heated iOpener loosens adhesive underneath the display.
  • Alternative heat sources: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate
  • Careful not to overheat the device when using alternative heat sources.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen, ensuring it adheres securely.

  • Use clear packing tape or very strong tape if screen is badly cracked for better adhesion.
  • If necessary, superglue suction handle to screen for a secure bond.

Be cautious not to damage the safety frame during this process.

  • Lift the screen and its safety frame with the suction handle, creating a small gap between the screen and phone assembly.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap between the screen frame and phone assembly, ensuring correct positioning.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner of the screen to sever adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 7 | Slice the adhesive

Step 7 image

Reheat the iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes if the adhesive is hard to cut.

  • Insert only the tip of the opening pick (2-3 mm) when slicing near the front facing camera to avoid damaging or smearing it.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.
