Google Pixel 6 Loudspeaker Replacement

For safety, discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling your phone to reduce the risk of a thermal event.

  • Check for swollen battery, taking necessary precautions if found.
  • The Google Pixel 6 contains class 1 lasers; be aware that disassembly may expose you to invisible infrared laser emissions.
  • This repair will compromise the device's water resistance, requiring new adhesive for reassembly and potentially affecting its IP rating.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Step 1 image

Thumbnail 2

Never initiate a low-battery state by charging the device beforehand, as a potentially hazardous condition can arise.

  • Let the battery drain to below 25% capacity before starting this repair.
  • Ensure your phone is fully powered off and any cables are disconnected.

Step 2 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Use the Anti-Clamp tool for easier opening: view guide

  • Apply clear packing tape over cracked screen.
  • Pull blue handle backwards to unlock arms.
  • Slide arms over phone edge, left or right.
  • Position suction cups near bottom edge: one front, one back.
  • Squeeze cups together for suction.
  • Tape may be needed if surface is too slippery

    .

Lock the arms by pulling the blue handle forward.

  • Turn the handle clockwise for 360 degrees or until the suction cups start to stretch.
  • Ensure the suction cups remain aligned; if they begin to slip, loosen them slightly and realign the arms.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Heat can damage display or internal battery; proceed with care.

  • Apply heat to iOpener and thread through Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Fold iOpener onto phone's bottom edge, wait one minute for adhesive release.
  • Insert opening pick under screen frame when Anti-Clamp creates a large gap.

If insufficient gap: apply more heat, rotate Anti-Clamp half turn clockwise; wait one minute between turns.

Step 5 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 5 image

Be cautious when applying heat to prevent overheating.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least three minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate — but avoid overheating the device.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Step 6 image

Thumbnail 3

Screen separation may damage phone; proceed with caution.

  • Apply a suction handle to the screen's bottom edge when warm, or use strong tape for cracked screens.
  • Lift the screen, including its safety frame, using the suction handle to create a gap between the screen and phone assembly.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap between the screen frame and phone assembly.
  • Ensure correct insertion position to avoid separating screen from safety frame.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner of the screen, then leave it in place to prevent adhesive resealing.

Step 7 | Slice the adhesive

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2

Slide an additional opening pick to the bottom left corner.

Ensure the pick remains in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 3

Ensure not to insert the opening pick too far underneath the screen, as this can cause it to get stuck.

  • Use only the tip of the opening pick, approximately 3-4 mm deep, when slicing display adhesive.
  • Insert a third opening pick underneath the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave one opening pick in the top left corner to keep the adhesive from resealing.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 3

Reheat the adhesive with your iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes if it becomes hard to cut.

  • When slicing near the front facing camera, only insert the tip of the opening pick (2-3 mm) to avoid damage.
  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.

Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive, then leave it in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Insert another opening pick at the right edge and gently slide it towards the top.

Do not attempt to lift the display entirely as the screen remains attached to the main unit.

Step 11 | Open up the phone assembly

Step 11 image

Be gentle when handling the display cable throughout the process.

  • Open the right side of the screen towards the left side of the phone assembly, similar to opening a book.

Step 12 | Remove the display cable bracket

Step 12 image

Remove the metal bracket on top of the display cable connector using a pair of tweezers.

  • Keep this part for later reinstallation.

Step 13 | Disconnect the display cable

Step 13 image

Use a spudger to pry the display flex cable connector straight up from its socket.

Step 14 | Remove the screen

Step 14 image

Handle the Pixel's screen by its edges to avoid damaging the fragile surface.

  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth when working with it to prevent scratches or dents.

The screen is easily damaged — handle carefully!

Remove the screen from your device and check if your replacement includes the front camera plastic bracket.

  • If the new screen doesn't come with the bracket, use a spudger to remove it from the old screen.
  • Attach the bracket to the new screen using double-sided tape.

Step 15 | Reassembly tips

Step 15 image

During reassembly:

  • If replacing the screen, inspect the front-facing camera hole and remove any remaining protective liners.
  • Reinstall the display cable bracket.

This is a good point to test your phone's functionality before sealing it up.

  • Power off the phone and disconnect the screen before continuing with reassembly.

If using custom-cut adhesives, follow this guide for instructions.

If using a pre-cut adhesive card, refer to the accompanying guide for installation details.

When installing a new screen, calibrate the fingerprint sensor according to this guide.

Step 16 | Loosen the graphite film adhesive

Step 16 image

Avoid direct heat application to the battery, as it may suffer from heat damage or thermal events.

  • Apply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the rear glass for at least two minutes.
  • Avoid applying heat directly onto the battery.

Step 17 | Remove the graphite films

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 3

A punctured or bent battery can leak chemicals or cause a thermal event.

  • Use blunt nose tweezers or your clean fingernail to gently remove the black graphite film from the battery's top edge and motherboard shield.
  • Remove the graphite film completely.

Step 18

Step 18 image

Thumbnail 3

Reapply heat as needed.

  • Apply iOpener or heat gun to rear glass for 1-2 minutes.

Be careful peeling off graphite film with blunt nose tweezers or fingernail.

  • Pry the black graphite film away from battery and motherboard shield along left edge.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Replace graphite film only when replacing battery or speaker.

  • Graphite film must be removed from bottom edge of battery and loudspeaker assembly with blunt nose tweezers or clean fingernail.
  • Remove foam bridging display and speaker for new graphite installation. Replace foam afterwards.

Step 20 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Step 20 image

Remove the Motherboard Cover using a Torx T3 Screwdriver.

  • Remove eight Torx T3 screws, each 4.8 mm long.
  • Remove one additional Torx T3 screw, 2.4 mm long.

Keep track of each screw and ensure it is returned to its original location.

Disconnect the battery connector with a spudger, prying it straight up from its socket.

Step 23 | Unfasten the loudspeaker screws

Step 23 image
  • Remove the loudspeaker with a Torx T3 screwdriver.
  • The screws are 5 in number and have a length of 4.8 mm.

Step 24 | Pry up the loudspeaker

Step 24 image
