Google Pixel 6 Front Camera Replacement

Discharging the battery below 25% reduces risk of thermal event if damaged during repair.

  • Learn more about our repair guides at provided link.

If your battery is swollen, take precautions to avoid injury.

Be aware that disassembling the Pixel 6 exposes you to invisible infrared laser emissions from its class 1 lasers.

  • Reapply adhesive carefully when reassembling to maintain water resistance and IP rating.

Use replacement adhesive for all reattached components.

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Step 1 image

Thumbnail 2

Allow the battery to discharge below 25% before proceeding to prevent potential fires.

  • Ensure your device is fully powered off.
  • Remove all external cables connected to your phone.

Step 2 | Anti-Clamp instructions

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

If your screen is cracked, cover it with clear packing tape before proceeding.

  • Unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms by pulling the blue handle backwards.
  • Slide the arms over either edge of your phone.

If your phone is too slippery, use tape to create a grippier surface before proceeding with suction cups.

  • Position one suction cup on the front and one on the back near the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Squeeze the cups together to apply suction.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

Lock the arms by pulling the blue handle forward.

  • Turn the handle clockwise until it reaches 360 degrees or the suction cups begin to stretch.
  • Ensure the suction cups remain aligned with each other. If they start to slip out of alignment, loosen them slightly and realign the arms.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Heat an iOpener and thread it through the arms of the Anti-Clamp.

Be cautious with heat, as extreme temperatures can damage the display or internal battery.

  • Fold the heated iOpener to rest on the phone's bottom edge.
  • Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when the Anti-Clamp creates sufficient space.

If no gap is formed, reapply heat and rotate the handle clockwise by half a turn. Wait one minute before attempting again.

Step 5 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 5 image

Apply iOpener to screen for 3 minutes.

  • Use a heated iOpener to loosen adhesive underneath.
  • Alternatives: hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be careful not to overheat device.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Step 6 image

Screen damage may occur if suction handle fails.

  • Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen when warm.
  • If screen is badly cracked, apply clear packing tape for better adhesion or use strong tape instead.
  • As last resort, superglue suction handle to screen.

Misaligned opening pick may damage screen safety frame.

  • Lift the screen with the suction handle to create a small gap between screen and phone assembly.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap between screen frame and phone assembly in correct position.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner of the screen to separate adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing.

Step 7 | Slice the adhesive

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert another opening pick at the bottom edge, sliding it into the lower left corner to cut the adhesive.

  • Ensure this second pick stays in position to keep the adhesive open.

Step 8

Step 8 image

For the Google Pixel 6, both adhesive and small plastic clips secure the screen.

  • Insert the tip (3-4 mm) of the opening pick for slicing the display adhesive.
  • Add a third opening pick under the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 3

Reheat the adhesive with your iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes if it becomes hard to cut.

Be cautious when slicing near the front facing camera: insert only the tip of the opening pick (2-3 mm) to avoid damage.

  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Insert another opening pick on the right edge and carefully pry off the remaining adhesive.

  • The screen will remain attached for now.
  • Continue prying with caution until all adhesive is removed.

Step 11 | Open up the phone assembly

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 3

Do not strain the display cable.

  • Open the right side of the screen towards the left side of the phone assembly, similar to opening a book.

Step 12 | Remove the display cable bracket

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Use tweezers to carefully disengage the metal bracket from the display cable connector.

  • Set aside the removed metal bracket for later reuse in reassembly.

Step 13 | Disconnect the display cable

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2

Disconnect the display flex cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.

Step 14 | Remove the screen

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 2

The Pixel's screen is extremely fragile and easily damaged.

  • Grip the screen by its edges when handling to prevent damage.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to protect it from scratches or dents.

Remove the screen from your device.

Verify that your replacement screen includes the front camera plastic bracket; if not:

  • Pry the old bracket loose using a spudger.
  • Transfer the bracket to the new screen and secure it with double-sided tape.

Step 15 | Reassembly tips

Step 15 image

During reassembly:

  • Inspect the front-facing camera hole on the new screen, removing any remaining protective liners.
  • Reinstall the display cable bracket.
  • Temporarily connect your screen, power on, and verify functionality before continuing.
  • Power off and disconnect the screen after testing.

If using custom-cut adhesives or pre-cut adhesive cards, follow relevant guides for proper application.

For a new screen installation, refer to the fingerprint sensor calibration guide.

Step 16 | Loosen the graphite film adhesive

Step 16 image

Never apply direct heat to the battery, as it may cause thermal damage or failure.

  • Apply a heated iOpener or heat gun to the rear glass for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath the graphite films on top of the battery.

Step 17 | Remove the graphite films

Step 17 image

Thumbnail 3

Puncturing or bending the battery risks leakage or thermal damage.

  • Use blunt nose tweezers or a clean fingernail to carefully remove the black graphite film from the top edge of the battery.
  • Repeat this process for the motherboard shield.
  • Remove the graphite film completely.

Step 18

Step 18 image

Thumbnail 3

Reapply iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes if graphite film is hard to remove.

  • Use blunt nose tweezers or a clean fingernail to carefully peel black graphite film from left edge of battery and motherboard shield.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Thumbnail 3

When replacing the battery or loudspeaker, carefully remove the graphite film at the bottom edge using blunt nose tweezers or a clean fingernail.

  • Remove the black graphite film from both the battery and the loudspeaker assembly.
  • Also, take out the foam bridge between the display and speaker. Replace it after installing new graphite film.

Do not forget to reattach the foam bridge once a new graphite film is installed.

Step 20 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Step 20 image

Remove the Torx T3 screwdriver and take out:

  • Eight 4.8 mm screws
  • One 2.4 mm screw

Keep track of each screw to avoid mix-ups during reassembly.

Step 21

Step 21 image

Careful not to damage the motherboard cover, lift it upwards.

  • Lift and set aside the motherboard cover.

Step 22 | Disconnect the battery cable

Step 22 image
