Google Pixel 6 Pro Screen Replacement

This repair guide was not endorsed by Google and contains class 1 lasers.

  • Ensure your new screen has the fingerprint reader attached or reinstall it from the original one.
  • Replace the frame if deformed to prevent damage from uneven pressure.

Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling and avoid accidental damage.

  • Take precautions if your battery is swollen.
  • Purchase replacement adhesives for rear glass and screen to maintain water resistance (IP rating will be lost).

Step 1 | Safety precautions

Let your battery discharge to less than 25% capacity before proceeding.

  • Power down your device completely.
  • Unplug all connected cables from the device.

Step 2 | Anti-Clamp instructions

  • Use the Anti-Clamp for an easier opening procedure.
  • If your screen is cracked, apply clear packing tape to improve suction cup adhesion.

  • Pull the blue handle backwards to unlock the Anti-Clamp's arms.
  • Slide the arms over either edge of your phone.
  • Position suction cups near the bottom edge, one on front and one on back.
  • Squeeze the cups together for suction.
  • Use tape to create a grippier surface if necessary due to slippery phone surface.

Step 3

  • Push the blue handle forward to secure the arms.

  • Rotate the handle clockwise for 360 degrees or until cup tension is applied.

  • Ensure suction cups are aligned. If misaligned, release tension and re-adjust arms.

Step 4

Extreme heat can damage the display and/or internal battery, so proceed with care.

  • Heat an iOpener or use a hair dryer/heat gun, then thread it through the arms of the Anti-Clamp.
  • Fold the iOpener to lay on the phone's bottom edge and wait one minute for the adhesive to release.
  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when the gap is sufficient.
  • If necessary, apply more heat, rotate the Anti-Clamp clockwise by half a turn, and repeat every minute until a large enough gap forms.

Step 5 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 5 image

Avoid overheating the device.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes.
  • Alternative heat sources include a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen when it's warm.

  • Use clear packing tape if your screen is badly cracked, or strong tape instead of suction handle as last resort.
  • Lift the screen with its safety frame using the suction handle to create a gap between the screen and phone assembly.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap in correct position to avoid separating screen from safety frame.

Be careful not to separate the screen from its safety frame instead of the phone assembly.

  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom left corner to slice adhesive, then leave it in place to prevent resealing.

Step 7 | Slice the adhesive

Step 7 image

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge.

  • Slide the pick up to the bottom right corner of the screen to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing.

Step 8

Make sure your opening pick doesn't insert too far under the screen.

  • Insert only the tip (~3-4 mm) of the opening pick when slicing the display adhesive.
  • Put a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Slide that pick along the left edge to cut the adhesive.

Leave an opening pick in the top left corner after lifting the screen, or the adhesive may reseal.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Reheat the adhesive if it becomes hard to cut, using your iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes.

  • When slicing near the front facing camera, insert only the tip of the opening pick (<~2-3 mm) to avoid damage.
  • Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner of the screen.
  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Slide the fifth opening pick along the right edge to cut remaining adhesive.

Do not separate the display completely yet, as it remains attached to the phone via connectors.

Step 11 | Open up the phone assembly

Step 11 image

Carefully avoid straining the display cable.

  • Fold the screen to the left side of the phone assembly.
  • Mimic opening a book's front cover for smooth folding.

Step 12 | Unfasten the display bracket screw

Step 12 image

Use a Torx T3 screwdriver to remove the 2.0 mm-long 3IP Torx Plus screw securing the display cable metal bracket.

  • Apply constant, downward force to prevent stripping of screws.

  • Keep track of each Torx Plus screw and ensure it goes back exactly where it came from.
  • Standard Torx bits work for the Pixel 6 Pro's Torx Plus screws.

Step 13 | Remove the display cable bracket

Step 13 image

Remove the metal bracket atop the display cable connector using a tweezers.

Keep this component for later reinstallation.

Step 14 | Disconnect the display cable

  • Disconnect the display flex cable using a spudger by prying the connector straight up.

Step 15 | Screen information

Step 15 image

The Pixel's screen is extremely fragile and prone to damage from minor scratches or dents.

  • Grip the screen by its edges when handling to prevent fingerprints and smudges.
  • When placing the screen on your work area, ensure no objects are in contact with the bottom of the screen.
  • Consider placing the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth for added protection.

Step 16 | Remove the screen

Step 16 image

Remove the screen.

During reassembly: Remove any protective liners from the screen's front-facing camera hole and sensor cutout, if replaced.

  • Reinstall the display cable bracket.
  • Temporarily connect the screen to test your phone before sealing it up. Make sure it works as expected.
  • Power off your phone and disconnect the screen before continuing with reassembly.

If using custom-cut adhesives, follow the corresponding guide.
