For alternate method, skip ahead three steps.

  • If screen is cracked, apply clear packing tape to help suction cup adhere.
  • Pull blue handle backwards to unlock Anti-Clamp arms.

Slide Anti-Clamp arms over phone edge (left or right).

Position suction cups near bottom edge of phone: one on front, one on back.

  • Squeeze suction cups together to apply suction.
  • If surface is too slippery, use tape to create a grippier surface.

Step 3

Use heat with caution to avoid damaging the display and/or internal battery.

  • Heat an iOpener or use a hair dryer/heat gun, but be cautious of extreme temperatures.
  • Fold the iOpener to apply it along the bottom edge of the phone.

Wait one minute for the adhesive to release and create a gap.

  • Insert an opening pick under the screen frame when a large enough gap is created.
  • If the gap is insufficient, apply more heat, rotating the handle clockwise half a turn at a time.
  • Wait one minute between turns and let the Anti-Clamp and time do the work.

Step 5 | Loosen the display adhesive

Step 5 image

Avoid overheating the device.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least 3 minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but monitor temperature to avoid damage.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Warm up the screen before applying a suction handle to the bottom edge, if necessary cover with clear packing tape for better adhesion.

Super glue as last resort.

  • Lift the screen and safety frame with the suction handle to create a gap between the screen and phone assembly.
  • Insert an opening pick into the correct position, avoiding separation from the safety frame.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom left corner of the screen to slice its adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing.

Step 7 | Slice the adhesive

Step 7 image
