Insert the SIM eject bit into the small hole on the right side edge of the frame.

A standard SIM eject tool may be too wide, so use a paperclip or a properly sized tool instead, and do not force it.

  • Press firmly until you feel the SIM card tray pop out.
  • Remove the SIM card tray from the phone.

Step 2 | Precautionary notes

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 2

Ensure your device is powered off before commencing repairs.

  • Pry the screen upwards to release it from the phone.

Carefully review the following notes to avoid damage:

  • Avoid prying at the screen seam as this separates the screen from the rest of the phone.
  • Pry at the bezel seam, located between the plastic bezel and the frame, held in place by plastic clips.

Step 3 | Heat the right edge of the screen

Step 3 image

Excessive heat can cause damage to the display and internal battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the display for one minute to soften the adhesive.
  • Reapply as needed, or use an alternative heat source such as a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.

Step 4 | Bezel removal note

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert opening picks into gaps between black clips and midframe.

Note optimal entry points before prying to avoid damage.

Step 5 | Create a gap between the bezel and midframe

Step 5 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Use clear packing tape or very strong tape instead of a suction cup if display is badly cracked.

  • Apply clear packing tape to the screen for better suction cup adhesion, if necessary.
  • Alternatively, superglue can be used to attach the suction cup to the broken screen.

Never apply excessive force on a cracked display — risk of further damage.

  • Position the suction cup as close to the right edge of the screen as possible.
  • Lift the suction cup firmly but steadily until a small gap forms between bezel and midframe.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Step 6 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Locate the midframe-bezel seam.

  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the seam, approximately 4-5 cm from the bottom of the phone.
  • Gently pry the plastic clips loose by working the opening pick along the seam.

Step 7

Insert the opening pick into the bezel seam, approximately 1.18 inches (3-4 cm) from the top of the device.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert the opening pick into the bezel seam at the top of the phone.

  • If necessary, slide the pick along the top right corner to create enough space.

Be cautious not to apply too much pressure and damage the screen or surrounding components.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert the opening pick tip into the bezel seam at the bottom of the phone.

  • If this step is difficult, slide the opening pick along the bottom right corner until there's a sufficient gap at the bottom.

Step 10

Step 10 image

  • Detach all clips using care.
  • Slice through remaining adhesive with an opening pick.

Careful when handling opening picks — risk of injury.

  • Open the device from the right side, like a book.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Use a T3 Torx driver to remove the 4.6mm-long screw securing the screen connector bracket.

  • Set aside the removed screw for reinstallation later.
  • Label each component and its corresponding screw to ensure correct reassembly.

Step 14 | Remove the connector bracket

Step 14 image

Step 15 | Remove the screen

Step 15 image

Use the tip of a spudger to gently pry up and disconnect the screen flex cable.

  • To reattach, carefully align the connectors and press down on one side until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat on the other side; do not press in the middle.
  • Misaligned connectors can bend pins, causing permanent damage.

Step 16 | Screen information

Step 16 image

Handle the Pixel's screen by its edges to avoid damaging it.

  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent scratching or denting.
  • Ensure nothing touches the bottom of the screen.

Step 17

Step 17 image

Remove the screen from the phone.

  • During reassembly: Check the front-facing camera hole on the new screen for protective liners and remove them if necessary.
  • Reinstall the screen connector bracket.
  • Apply new screen adhesive correctly (refer to guide) or attach the screen using Tesa tape (follow guide).

Do not touch the screen during the calibration sequence after reassembly, as this may cause improper touch calibration and result in touch issues.

Step 18 | Remove the screws

Step 18 image

Use a T3 Torx driver to remove six screws.

  • Remove four 4.6 mm screws.
  • Remove one 4.0 mm screw.
  • Remove one 2.0 mm screw.

Keep track of each screw to ensure proper reinstallation.

Avoid damaging the battery — do not puncture it with the tweezers or your fingers.

  • Peel back the graphite sheet using a blunt pair of tweezers, starting from one corner.
  • Alternatively, use your fingers to carefully remove the graphite sheet, taking care not to damage the battery underneath.

Step 25 | Detach the midframe

Step 25 image
