Google Pixel 5a Screen Adhesive Installation

  • Make sure you have already removed your screen and set it aside (see separate instructions).

This guide was written using a Pixel 5; some visual differences may occur, but the adhesive installation procedure is the same.

Step 1 | Remove adhesive residue from the frame

Peel off as much adhesive as possible with a pair of tweezers.

  • Use a spudger to scrape away any remaining adhesive.
  • Do not use metal tools, as they may damage the frame.
  • Clean the area underneath the removed adhesive with 90% or greater isopropyl alcohol to prepare the surface for new adhesive.

Step 2 | Remove adhesive residue from the screen

Do not use metal tools when scraping away screen adhesive — risk of damaging the screen.

  • Repeat the previous step for the screen adhesive.
  • Avoid using isopropyl alcohol near the front camera bracket, as it may loosen its adhesive.

Step 3 | Align the adhesive

Use the front camera and corners of the frame for correct alignment.

Step 4 | Prepare the adhesive

Remove the clear plastic liner.

Exposure to adhesive residue may cause skin irritation.

Step 5 | Apply the adhesive

Careful not to misalign the adhesive, as this will result in a poor seal.

  • Lower the adhesive onto the frame.
  • Use the front camera and corners for alignment assistance.

Step 6 | Secure the adhesive to the frame

Press the flat end of a spudger or your fingernail onto the adhesive.

  • Slide it along the edge to secure the adhesive to the frame.

Step 7 | Peel away the outer plastic lining

Grasp the blue plastic lining with your fingers, located near the center.

Be gentle to avoid damaging the surrounding components.

  • Peel the blue plastic lining away from the phone.
  • A thin perimeter of adhesive will remain covered by blue plastic lining.

Step 8 | Connect the screen

Reassemble the device by following the screen replacement guide in reverse order.

  • Connect the new screen to your Pixel device.

Ensure you reinstall the screen connector bracket for proper function.

After replacing the screen, inspect the front-facing camera hole and remove any protective liners covering it.

Step 9 | Peel away the remaining plastic lining

Remove the blue plastic liner to access the perimeter adhesive.

Step 10 | Position the screen

Position the screen against the frame, allowing it to rest in place.

Step 11 | Press down the screen corners

Press down the screen corners onto the .

Step 12 | Secure the screen to the frame

Press down on the edges of the screen.

  • Slide along the perimeter to secure it to the .
  • To improve bonding, heat the perimeter of the screen and soften the adhesive.
