Turn off your device before starting the repair.

  • Pry the screen up to remove it from the phone.
  • Read the following notes carefully:
    • Screen seam: Do not pry at this point.
    • Bezel seam: Pry here, where the plastic bezel meets the frame and is held by plastic clips.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge of the screen

Step 2 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the display for one minute.

Be cautious when using external heat sources, as the display and internal battery can be damaged by excessive heat.

  • Reapply the iOpener multiple times if necessary to weaken the adhesive.
  • Alternative heat sources include a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.

Step 3 | Bezel removal note

Step 3 image

Insert opening picks into the gap between the black clips and the midframe.

  • Note the best insertion points for the opening picks.

Step 4 | Create a gap between the bezel and midframe

Step 4 image

Apply clear packing tape to cracked display for better suction cup adhesion, or use strong tape instead.

  • Position the suction cup as close to the right edge of the screen as possible.
  • Lift the suction cup with a steady force until a gap forms between bezel and midframe.

If display is severely damaged, adhesives may not hold; proceed at your own risk.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2

Locate the seam where the bezel meets the midframe.

  • Insert a pointed tool (opening pick) into this seam, approximately 4-5 cm from the bottom of the phone.
  • Gently pry along the seam to release the plastic clips holding the bezel in place.

Step 6

Insert opening pick tip into bezel seam, approximately 3-4 cm from top edge.

Step 7

Step 7 image

Insert the opening pick into the bezel seam at the top.

  • If needed, slide the opening pick along the top right corner to create a gap.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert the tip of an opening pick into the bezel seam at the bottom of the phone.

If this step proves difficult, carefully slide the pick along the bottom right corner of the phone until there is enough of a gap at the bottom for the opening pick.

Step 9

Detach all clips and use an opening pick to slice through remaining adhesive.

  • Hold the device open as you would a book, starting from the right side.

Step 12

Step 12 image

Use a T3 Torx driver to remove the 4.6 mm-long screw that secures the screen connector bracket.

  • Keep track of each removed screw and ensure it is returned to its original location.

Step 13 | Remove the connector bracket

Step 13 image

Do not press down on the middle of a re-attachable connector.

  • Use the tip of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the screen flex cable.
  • To re-attach, align connectors carefully and press down on one side until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat on the other side. If misaligned, pins can bend, causing permanent damage.

Step 15 | Screen information

Step 15 image

Handling the Pixel's screen can be hazardous due to its fragile nature.

  • Always grip the screen by its edges when handling.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth or a flat surface with nothing touching the bottom.

Step 16

Step 16 image

Remove the screen from the phone.

  • During reassembly: Check the screen's front-facing camera hole and remove any protective liners if a new screen was installed.
  • Screen connector bracket: Reinstall during reassembly.
  • Apply new screen adhesive using either custom-cut adhesive or follow guidelines for Tesa tape application.

During boot-up, avoid touching the screen until calibration is complete to prevent touch issues.

Step 17 | Remove the screws

Step 17 image

Remove six T3 Torx driver screws securing the midframe:

  • Four 4.6 mm screws.
  • 4.0 mm screw.
  • 2.0 mm screw.

Label and reinstall each screw in its original position to avoid mix-up.

Step 18 | Remove the black plastic cover

Step 18 image

  • Be cautious not to damage the tape or surrounding components.

Step 21 | Remove the remaining screws

Step 21 image

Remove the remaining four screws that secure the midframe to the motherboard using a T3 Torx driver.

  • Take out three screws, 4.6 mm in length.
  • Remove one screw, 4.0 mm in length.

Step 22

Thumbnail 2

Insert the pointed end of a spudger under the top right corner of the midframe.

Be careful not to push too hard, as this can damage nearby components.

  • Pull the midframe down using the spudger.
  • Once loose, pry the midframe up from the top of the frame.

Step 25 | Remove the midframe
