Step 2 | Precautionary notes

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 2

Turn off your device before starting repairs.

  • Pry the screen up to detach it from the phone.
  • Take note of two critical seams on the edge of the phone:

  • Screen seam: Do not pry at this point, as it separates the screen from the rest of the device.
  • Bezel seam: This is where you should apply prying pressure to release the plastic bezel and its clips.

Step 3 | Heat the right edge of the screen

Step 3 image

Excessive heat can damage the display and internal battery.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the display for one minute to soften the adhesive.
  • If necessary, reapply the iOpener multiple times to weaken the adhesive sufficiently.

Use alternative heat sources like a hair dryer or heat gun with caution, avoiding overheating.

Step 4 | Bezel removal note

Step 4 image

Identify and note the black clips securing the bezel.

  • Insert an opening pick in each identified clip.

Step 5 | Create a gap between the bezel and midframe

Step 5 image

If display is badly cracked, use clear packing tape to enable suction cup adhesion.

  • Apply strong tape or superglue directly to suction cup for extra adhesion if needed.

Place suction cup near right edge of screen.

  • Lift suction cup with steady force until gap forms between bezel and midframe.

Step 6 | Insert an opening pick

Step 6 image

  • To reattach:
    • Align the connector and press down on one side until it clicks into place
    • Repeat on the other side, avoiding the middle area

Do not press down on the middle – misalignment can cause permanent damage to the pins.

Step 16 | Screen information

Step 16 image

Handle the Pixel's screen with care: small scratches or dents can cause damage.

  • Grip the screen by its edges to avoid applying pressure on the fragile area.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent anything from touching the bottom.

Step 17

Step 17 image

Remove the screen from the phone.

  • During reassembly: Check the front-facing camera hole on the new screen for any protective liners and remove them.
  • Reinstall the screen connector bracket.

During boot-up after reassembly, do not touch the screen during the calibration sequence to avoid improper touch calibration and potential touch issues.
