Ensure your device is powered off before commencing repair.

  • Pry the screen upwards to detach it from the phone.

Carefully review the following notes before proceeding:

  • Identify two key seams on the phone's edge:
    • Screen seam: Avoid prying here, as it separates the screen from the rest of the device.
    • Bezel seam: This is where you should pry, located between the plastic bezel and the frame, held by plastic clips.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge of the screen

Step 2 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the right edge of the display for one minute to soften the adhesive.

  • Reapply the iOpener multiple times as needed, depending on the strength of your device's adhesive.
  • If using a heat gun or hot plate, be careful not to overheat the phone and cause damage to the display or internal battery.

Step 3 | Bezel removal note

Step 3 image

Identify and mark the black clips' optimal entry points on either side of the bezel using a pair of opening picks.

  • Carefully insert the picks into these marked areas.
  • Gently pry open the clips by wiggling the picks back and forth.

Step 4 | Create a gap between the bezel and midframe

Step 4 image

Use clear packing tape or strong tape to aid suction if display is badly cracked.

  • Apply clear packing tape over the cracked area for improved suction, or use very strong tape instead of a suction cup.
  • As a last resort, superglue the suction cup to the broken screen.

Lift the suction cup towards the right edge of the screen with steady force until a small gap forms between the bezel and midframe.

Step 5 | Insert an opening pick

Step 5 image

Careful alignment is crucial when reconnecting a screen flex cable.

  • Use the tip of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the screen flex cable.
  • To reattach, align connectors carefully and press down on one side until it clicks into place. Repeat for the other side.
  • Do not press down in the middle of the connector, as this may cause permanent damage to the pins if misaligned.

Step 15 | Screen information

Step 15 image

Fragile screen: small scratches/dents can cause damage.

  • Grip the screen by its edges to avoid applying pressure to the fragile area.
  • Place the screen on a soft, lint-free cloth when working with it to prevent contact damage.

Step 16

Step 16 image

Remove the screen from the phone.

  • If replacing the screen, remove any protective liners covering the front-facing camera hole.
  • Reinstall the screen connector bracket.

During reassembly, follow guidelines for applying new custom-cut adhesive or using Tesa tape to ensure proper installation.

Do not touch the screen during the boot-up calibration sequence to prevent improper touch calibration and potential touch issues.

Step 17 | Remove the screws

Step 17 image

Use a T3 Torx driver to remove six screws: four 4.6 mm, one 4.0 mm, and one 2.0 mm.

  • Keep track of each screw by its length for proper reinstallation later.
  • Mark or label the correct locations for each type of screw to avoid mix-ups.

Mixing up screws can damage components or cause further repair issues.

Step 18 | Remove the black plastic cover
