How to Replace the Back Panel Adhesive on Your Google Pixel 4

Step 1 | Scrape off the old adhesive

Avoid damaging the cameras, spring contacts, and graphite film when scraping.

  • Use a spudger or your fingernail to scrape off old adhesive from the frame and back panel.

Step 2 | Remove the remaining adhesive

Apply high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) to any remaining adhesive.

  • Use a microfiber cloth to wipe away the adhesive.
  • If necessary, apply more isopropyl alcohol and scrape with a spudger.

Step 3 | Orient the adhesive

Place the new adhesive on the back panel with the camera cutout facing upwards.

Step 4 | Remove the adhesive liner

Remove the large rectangular liner by peeling it away.

Exposure of the adhesive may cause sticking issues if not handled properly.

  • The exposed adhesive should now be ready to stick to the back panel.

Step 5 | Apply the adhesive

Adhesive can be stubborn; avoid misalignment for a secure seal.

  • Feed the back panel connector cable through the camera cutout before applying adhesive.
  • Lay down the adhesive, sticky side facing the back panel, ensuring correct orientation.
  • Press firmly around the perimeter to secure all areas of the adhesive.

Remove any remaining liners from the adhesive using the provided pull tabs.

Adhesive is exposed and extremely sticky; handle with care.

  • Review repair guide for proper reassembly sequence.
  • Prevent back panel cable from coming into contact with adhesive.

Position the back panel over the phone's rear and set it down.

Ensure a secure fit by applying pressure evenly around the panel's edges for 60 seconds.
