Insert a SIM eject tool or a straightened paper clip into the small hole on the left edge of the phone.

  • Press firmly to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the back panel glass

Step 2 image

Apply a iOpener to the bottom edge of the back panel for one minute.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Avoid overheating the phone, as it can cause damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 3 | Apply a suction cup

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply suction cup to heated edge of back panel and press down firmly for suction.

If cracked, apply clear packing tape or use strong tape instead.

  • If necessary, superglue suction cup to broken panel as last resort.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply suction cup firmly with steady force to create space between back panel and frame.

  • Be prepared for varying degrees of difficulty depending on phone age.
  • If struggling, try applying more heat to the edge before reattempting.
  • Insert the opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Begin to slice the adhesive

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick at the bottom of the device.

  • Slide the pick across the bottom towards the left corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Continue with the pick inserted, sliding it from the left corner over to the right corner to completely slice the bottom side adhesive.

Leave the pick inserted in the right corner to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 6 | Slice the lefthand-side adhesive

Step 6 image

Prepare an iOpener and heat the left edge of the phone with it for 1 minute.

Step 7

Step 7 image

Place a second opening pick under the back panel, positioning it above the charge port.

  • Guide the pick downwards towards the bottom left corner of the phone.

Step 8

Step 8 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner and across the left side of the phone in a slow sawing motion.

The adhesive can be very gummy; push the pick in and out to help with slicing, but be careful not to apply too much pressure.

  • Stop when you reach the top left corner, near the camera, and leave the pick inserted.

Step 9 | Slice righthand-side adhesive

Step 9 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the right edge of the phone for 1 minute.

Step 10

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Carefully lift the right edge of the back cover, opening it like a book.

  • Make sure not to attempt to remove the panel completely at this stage.
  • The panel is still connected to the phone and must remain attached for further steps.

Step 13

Step 13 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Continue opening the back panel until it rests on the left edge of the phone, avoiding stress on the attached ribbon cable.

  • Power on your phone and test all functions during reassembly to ensure everything is working properly.
  • Make sure to power down your phone completely before continuing work.

Step 14 | Disconnect the battery

Step 14 image

Remove the T3 Torx screws securing the battery connector shield.

  • Four 4.0 mm T3 Torx screws.
  • One 2.1 mm T3 Torx screw.

Keep track of each screw and ensure it is replaced in its original position to avoid damage or misalignment.

Step 15

Step 15 image

Thumbnail 2

Remove the battery connector shield using a pair of tweezers.

Step 16

Step 16 image

Thumbnail 2

Be extremely cautious when using a spudger near the battery to avoid puncturing it.

  • Use the pointed end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from the motherboard.
  • To reattach, carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place; repeat on the other side.
  • Do not press in the middle — misaligned connectors can bend pins, causing permanent damage.

Step 17

Step 17 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully bend the battery cable out of the way.

  • Fold the cable over so it doesn't touch any components by accident during repair work.

Step 18 | Disconnect the back panel connector

Step 18 image

Use a T3 Torx driver to remove the two 4 mm screws securing the back panel connector cover.

Step 19

Step 19 image

Thumbnail 2

Use the pointed tip of a spudger to carefully pry up and release the back panel connector.

Step 21 | Remove the back panel

Step 21 image

Remove the back panel.

  • For custom-cut adhesives, refer to the reassembly instructions in the adhesive installation guide.
  • If using a pre-cut adhesive card, follow the instructions provided with the card.

Step 22 | Remove the adhesive strips

Step 22 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Adhesive strip can snap if pulled too hard.

  • Pull on the yellow pull tab with steady force.
  • If it becomes difficult, roll around a spudger and continue pulling.
  • Keep constant force applied; spin spudger regularly to shorten exposed section.

This may require significant force.

  • If pull tabs are not stretching, apply a few drops of high concentration (>90%) isopropyl alcohol under the left edge of the battery.
  • Wait one minute to allow the adhesive to weaken.

Pull slowly and carefully to avoid breakage.

  • Continue process for each of the three pull tabs until all are removed or have snapped in half.

Step 23 | Remove the battery

Step 23 image

Thumbnail 2

Risk of damaging the charge port flex cable if not careful.

  • Insert an opening pick on the upper right edge of the battery to slice adhesive, if necessary.
  • Avoid touching the grip sensor cable and ensure the opening pick is not near the charge port flex cable.

Step 24

Step 24 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Reuse a deformed or damaged battery as it poses a potential safety hazard.

  • Lift the battery up and away from the phone to remove it, peeling it away from any leftover adhesive tabs if necessary.
  • If there's residual alcohol solution, wipe it off with a lint-free cloth or allow it to air dry before installing your new battery.

Do not cover the charge port flex cable when applying double-sided tape, pre-cut adhesive strips, or stretch release adhesive in the phone's battery well.

  • Apply stretch release adhesive to the battery, or use double-sided tape/pre-cut adhesive strips in the battery well, ensuring the charge port flex cable remains exposed.
  • Temporarily connect the battery connector to the motherboard socket for proper positioning.
  • Lay the battery in place and press firmly.
  • Disconnect the battery connector from its motherboard socket and resume re-assembly.

Step 25 | Remove the screws securing the camera connector cover

Step 25 image
