Google Pixel 4 Loudspeaker Replacement

Disassembling the front laser assembly can expose you to hazardous infrared laser emissions — see Google's safety warning.

Removing the loudspeaker module will void your Pixel 4's water resistance.

  • This guide, authored by iFixit staff, is for replacing the loudspeaker module on a Google Pixel 4 — not endorsed by Google.
  • The loudspeaker is secured with an adhesive gasket to the frame.

Step 1 | Remove the SIM card tray

  • Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the small hole on the left edge of the phone.
  • Press firmly to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the back panel glass

Step 2 image

Never apply excessive heat — risk of display or battery damage.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the bottom edge of the back panel for 1 minute.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the phone.

Step 3 | Apply a suction cup

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Superglue the suction cup in place only as a last resort due to potential damage and loss of repair warranty.

  • Apply a suction cup near the heated edge, pressing down firmly to create suction.
  • If necessary, cover the back glass with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Alternatively, use strong tape instead of the suction cup.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image

Applying excessive force may damage the phone.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with steady force to create a gap.
  • If stuck, reapply heat and try again, as difficulty may be age-dependent.
  • Insert the point of an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Begin to slice the adhesive

Insert an opening pick under the screen's bottom edge.

  • Slide the pick across the bottom towards the left corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Continue sliding it over to the bottom right corner to fully slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place at the bottom right corner to keep the adhesive from re-sealing.

Step 6 | Slice the lefthand-side adhesive

Step 6 image

Apply iOpener to the left edge of the phone for 1 minute.

Step 7

Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner and across the left side of the phone to slice the adhesive.

The adhesive can be very gummy; push the pick in and out in a sawing motion to help with slicing, but do not force it.

  • Stop when you reach the top left corner near the camera.
  • Leave the pick inserted at this point.

Step 9 | Slice righthand-side adhesive

Step 9 image

Apply heat to the right edge with an iOpener for 1 minute.

Insert a third pick on the lower right-hand side.

  • Slide it up towards the top of the phone, cutting the right side's adhesive.
  • Stop at the top right corner and leave the pick in place.

Step 11 | Slice the top-side adhesive

Step 11 image

  • Sliding the third opening pick, cover the top right corner and glide it along the top edge.
  • The pick should slice through the remaining adhesive strip.

Step 12 | Lift up the back panel

Carefully lift the right edge of the back cover, opening it like a book.

Do not attempt to remove the panel completely at this stage — it remains attached to the phone.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Be careful not to put stress on the attached ribbon cable when resting the back panel on the left edge of the phone.

  • Rest the back panel on the left edge of the phone, ensuring the ribbon cable is secure.
  • Power on your phone during reassembly and test all functions before re-sealing the back panel.
  • Power down your phone completely before continuing work.

Step 14 | Disconnect the battery

Step 14 image

Locate the T3 Torx screws securing the battery connector shield.

  • Remove four 4.0 mm T3 Torx screws.
  • Remove one 2.1 mm T3 Torx screw.

Label and store each removed screw to ensure correct reinstallation.

  • To re-attach, carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks, then repeat on the other. Press only the sides, not the middle.

Step 17

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully fold the battery cable out of the way.

Use tweezers to pivot the loudspeaker up and out.

  • If it doesn't move, try pushing it closer to the battery.

Check the adhesive gasket before installing a new loudspeaker.

  • Inspect for damage; re-use if in good condition, but ensure the exit hole is uncovered.
  • If damaged or displaced, remove and replace with pre-cut strip or Tesa tape.
