Google Pixel 4 Flash Assembly Replacement

Disassembling the flash module may compromise water resistance.

  • Identify the components within the flash assembly, including the LED flash module, spectral and flicker sensor, and back panel microphone.
  • The microphone section is sealed to the frame with an adhesive gasket.

Destructive removal of the graphite adhesive layer is required to access the flash module.

  • Be aware that disassembling the front laser assembly poses a risk of hazardous infrared laser emissions, as warned by Google. Read their safety guidelines here.

Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or a straightened paper clip into the small hole on the SIM card tray.

  • Press firmly to eject the tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the back panel glass

Step 2 image

Apply a iOpener to the bottom edge of the back panel for 1 minute.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but avoid overheating to prevent display and internal battery damage.

Do not overheat the phone as it can cause irreparable damage.

Step 3 | Apply a suction cup

Step 3 image

Apply a suction cup as close to the heated edge as possible by pressing down.

If back glass is badly cracked, cover with clear packing tape for better adhesion or use very strong tape instead.

  • If necessary, use superglue to attach suction cup directly to broken panel.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply a strong, steady force to the suction cup to create a gap between the back panel and frame.

  • If necessary, apply additional heat to the edge for improved results.
  • Insert the point of an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Begin to slice the adhesive

Step 5 image

Slide an opening pick across the bottom towards the left corner to cut the adhesive.

  • Continue sliding the pick from the bottom left corner over to the bottom right corner to fully cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick inserted in the bottom right corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 6 | Slice the lefthand-side adhesive

Step 6 image

Apply iOpener to the left edge of the phone for 1 minute.

Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner and across the left side of the phone to slice the adhesive.

The adhesive can be very gummy.

  • Pull the pick in and out in a sawing motion to help with slicing.
  • Stop when you reach the top left corner, near the camera, and leave the pick inserted.

Step 9 | Slice righthand-side adhesive

Step 9 image

Heat the iOpener according to instructions.

  • Apply heat to the right edge of the phone for exactly one minute.

Continue swinging open the back panel until it rests on the left edge of the phone without putting stress on the attached ribbon cable.

  • Power on the phone and test all functions during reassembly to ensure everything is working correctly.
  • Make sure the phone is powered down completely before continuing work.

Step 14 | Disconnect the battery

Step 14 image

Remove the T3 Torx screws securing the battery connector shield:

  • Four 4.0 mm T3 Torx screws
  • One 2.1 mm T3 Torx screw

Be sure to keep track of each screw and note its original position for reassembly.

Never puncture the battery with a spudger.

  • Use the pointed end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from the motherboard.
  • To re-attach press connectors, align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side.
  • Do not press in the middle or misalign the connector, as this can cause permanent damage to the pins.
