Use this guide to remove or replace the bottom side microphone on your Google Pixel 4, taking note that removing it will compromise water resistance.
Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or a straightened paper clip into the small hole on the SIM card tray.
Do not apply excessive heat, which can cause damage to the display and internal battery.
Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the back panel by pressing down to create suction.
Apply strong, steady pressure with the suction cup to create a gap between the back panel and frame.
Insert an opening pick at the bottom of the device.
Heat an iOpener according to its instructions.
Apply the heated iOpener to the left edge of the phone for one minute, letting it sit until the adhesive loosens.
Insert a second opening pick under the back panel, positioned directly above the charge port.
Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner and across the left side of the phone.
Stop when you reach the top left corner near the camera and leave the pick inserted to avoid damaging any components.
Apply iOpener to the right edge of the phone for 1 minute.
Insert a third pick near the bottom of the phone on the right-hand side.
Place the third opening pick at the top right corner of the phone.
Do not pull the panel all the way off yet.
Continue opening the back panel until it rests on the left edge of the phone.
Power on your phone and test all functions before re-sealing the back panel. Completely power down your phone before continuing work.
Remove the T3 Torx screws securing the battery connector shield:
Keep track of each screw and ensure it is replaced exactly where it came from.
Use tweezers to remove the battery connector shield.
Careful not to puncture the battery with a spudger.
When re-attaching, align and press down on one side until it clicks; repeat on the other. Do not press in the middle to avoid pin bending.
Use the flat end of a spudger to gently fold the battery cable out of the way.
Remove the T3 Torx using a driver for the 2 x 4mm screws holding the back panel connector cover.
Remove the back panel connector cover using a pair of tweezers.
Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry up the back panel connector.
Remove the back panel.
Remove the camera connector cover by using a T3 Torx driver to take out the four 4 mm screws.
Use tweezers to carefully lift the camera cover.
Pry the camera and sensor connectors straight up from the motherboard using the pointed end of a spudger.
Disconnect the laser module connector.
Remove the front camera and sensor assembly using a T3 Torx driver.
Remove the front camera and sensor assembly with a pair of tweezers.
Remove the T3 Torx driver and unscrew the following:
Remove the vibration motor shield with a pair of tweezers.
Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry the two rear-facing camera connectors loose from the motherboard.
Disconnect the side buttons connector from the motherboard.
Disconnect the left grip sensor connector from the motherboard.
Disconnect the display connector from the motherboard.
Use tweezers to grasp the metal clip and pull the connector directly upwards.
Disconnect the bottom microphone connector from the motherboard.
Gently pry the battery adhesive pull tabs away from the motherboard, without removing them yet.
Use a spudger to carefully lift the top end of the motherboard away from the phone's frame.
Remove the motherboard slowly to avoid snagging ribbon cables.
Remove the microphone cover with a pair of tweezers.
Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry the microphone away from the phone's frame at the bottom edge.
Be gentle, as it is held in place by light adhesive.
Use a pair of tweezers to carefully remove the microphone.
