Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or a straightened paper clip into the small hole on the SIM card tray.

  • Press firmly to eject the tray.
  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the back panel glass

Step 2 image

Do not apply excessive heat, which can cause damage to the display and internal battery.

  • Apply an iOpener to the bottom edge of the back panel for one minute.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but keep the phone away from direct heat sources.

Step 3 | Apply a suction cup

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the back panel by pressing down to create suction.

  • If the back glass is cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Alternatively, use very strong tape in place of the suction cup.
  • If all else fails, superglue the suction cup to the broken panel as a last resort.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply strong, steady pressure with the suction cup to create a gap between the back panel and frame.

  • For older phones, additional heat may be required to loosen the adhesive.
  • Insert the point of an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 5 | Begin to slice the adhesive

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick at the bottom of the device.

  • Slide the pick across the bottom towards the left corner, slicing the adhesive.
  • With the pick still inserted, slide it from the left corner over to the right corner.
  • Leave the pick in place at the right corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 6 | Slice the lefthand-side adhesive

Step 6 image

Heat an iOpener according to its instructions.

Apply the heated iOpener to the left edge of the phone for one minute, letting it sit until the adhesive loosens.

  • The adhesive can be very gummy; use caution when handling it.

Stop when you reach the top left corner near the camera and leave the pick inserted to avoid damaging any components.

Step 9 | Slice righthand-side adhesive

Step 9 image

Apply iOpener to the right edge of the phone for 1 minute.

Step 10
