Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or a straightened paper clip into the small hole on the SIM card tray.

  • Press firmly to avoid damaging the tray — risk of damage.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the back panel glass

Step 2 image

Apply heat to the iOpener and place it on the bottom edge of the back panel for one minute.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be careful not to overheat the phone as the display and internal battery can be damaged.

Step 3 | Apply a suction cup

Step 3 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Press a suction cup firmly onto the heated edge of the back panel.

  • To create suction, apply pressure as close to the edge as possible.
  • If the glass is cracked, try covering it with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • As a last resort, use strong tape or superglue to secure the suction cup in place.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Use strong, steady force to create a gap between the back panel and frame by pulling up on the suction cup.

  • Apply additional heat to the edge if necessary, as this may be challenging depending on your phone's age.
  • Once the gap is open, carefully insert the point of an opening pick into the space created.

Step 5 | Begin to slice the adhesive

Step 5 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick at the bottom center of the device.

  • Slide the pick towards the left corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Move the pick from the left corner to the right corner to slice the remaining adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent re-sealing.

Step 6 | Slice the lefthand-side adhesive

Step 6 image

Apply iOpener to the left edge of the phone for 1 minute.

Step 7

Step 7 image

Insert a second opening pick under the back panel, just above the charge port.

  • Position it at the bottom left corner of the phone.

Step 8

Step 8 image
Thumbnail 1
Thumbnail 2

Slide the opening pick around the bottom left corner and across the left side of the phone in a smooth motion.

The adhesive may be gummy; use a sawing motion with the pick to help it slice through smoothly.

  • Continue applying pressure until you reach the top left corner, near the camera.
  • Leave the opening pick inserted for further steps.

Step 9 | Slice righthand-side adhesive

Step 9 image

Apply heat to the right edge carefully, as excessive temperature can cause damage.

  • Prepare a heated iOpener and let it cool slightly before handling.
  • Place the iOpener on the right edge of the phone for exactly one minute to loosen the adhesive.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert a third pick at the lower right side.

  • Slide it up towards the top of the phone, slicing the right side's adhesive.
  • Stop when you reach the top right corner and leave the pick in place.

Step 11 | Slice the top-side adhesive

Step 11 image

Thumbnail 2

Use the third opening pick to slide along the top right corner and across the top edge of the phone.

  • Slice the last strip of adhesive with the opening pick.

Step 12 | Lift up the back panel

Step 12 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Do not attempt to remove the back cover completely at this time.

  • Lift the right edge of the back cover to open like a book.
  • Leave the panel connected to the phone for now.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2

Continue swinging open the back panel until it rests on the left edge of the phone, avoiding stress on the ribbon cable.

Do not power on your phone during reassembly without first powering it down completely and testing functions at this stage.

  • Power on your phone to test all functions before proceeding.
  • Prior to continuing, ensure the phone is powered off completely.

Step 14 | Disconnect the battery

Step 14 image

Remove the four T3 Torx screws securing the battery connector shield: one 1.8mm, one 4.1mm, one 4.4mm shouldered, and one 4.0mm shouldered.

  • Label each screw for easy reassembly later.
  • Keep track of each screw's location to ensure correct replacement.

  • Pry the battery connector straight up from the motherboard using the pointed end of a spudger.
  • To reconnect, carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side. Avoid pressing in the middle.
  • Incorrect alignment can cause the pins to bend, resulting in permanent damage.
